Install the latest update before changing settings. The day-one update adds Font Style, while the game lets you switch between Remastered and Original graphics and sound effects during play. On PC, use 1080p at 60 fps as the starting target: begin at Low if your computer is close to Steam’s listed baseline, then move toward High only after confirming that frame pacing stays steady. Steam warns that frame rate can fall in graphics-intensive scenes, so 60 fps is a target rather than a guarantee in every moment.
Recommended starting setup
For most players, the best first configuration is straightforward:
- Update Tales of Eternia Remastered before judging its text or presentation.
- Choose Remastered graphics and sound effects if you want the updated presentation.
- Choose Original graphics and sound effects if you prefer the classic atmosphere.
- Open the in-game Controls menu and verify every prompt for your controller, keyboard, or other input device instead of relying on a generic button guide.
- Set the clearest available Font Style, then check it in a dialogue-heavy scene on the display you actually use.
- On PC, target 1080p/60 fps. Start at Low on hardware near the published baseline and raise quality gradually if performance remains consistent.
These are starting points, not hidden “best” values. The official information establishes the available presentation modes, the added text option, and Steam’s performance estimates, but it does not publish a complete controller map, a ranked font-style list, or a measured performance table for every platform.
Update the game before evaluating any setting
The day-one update is important for two reasons. First, it adds the Font Style option used to adjust text presentation. Second, installing the latest build ensures that you are evaluating the current release rather than the launch version that shipped before those changes. Apply the update on your platform, start the game again, and then inspect the settings.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If you changed display or input settings before updating, review them afterward. A patch can add menu entries without preserving every preference in the way you expect, and checking the menus again takes less time than troubleshooting a setting that is simply missing from an older build.
Controls: how to get the right prompts without guessing
The cited official pages do not provide a complete controller map or remapping table. That means an article cannot responsibly name a universal “best” button layout or assert that a particular button performs a particular action on every platform. The correct approach is to inspect the game’s own control display and verify the prompts shown for your input device.
Check the in-game Controls menu
- Open the game’s options or settings screen from the title menu or during play.
- Select the section labeled Controls, Controller, Keyboard, or a similar input heading.
- Read the displayed action and the button or key assigned to it rather than comparing the prompt with a guide made for another platform.
- If the game offers remapping, change one action at a time and test it in a safe area before changing the rest of the layout.
- Return to the same menu after reconnecting a controller, changing input methods, or switching platforms so the displayed prompts still match the device you are using.
Prompt verification matters because the release is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. Button labels and keyboard prompts can differ even when the underlying action is the same. A screenshot or list made for one input device is therefore not a reliable substitute for the game’s current prompt display.

- Use the layout you can read quickly: place frequently used actions where your hand naturally rests if remapping is available.
- Keep prompts visible while learning: do not memorize a layout from a different controller family and assume the symbols correspond.
- Test directional input and confirmation separately: a controller can appear connected while one axis, trigger, or face button is not registering correctly.
- Check the active device before troubleshooting the game: on PC, verify whether the game is receiving keyboard, controller, or another input source and that the on-screen prompts correspond to it.
If an action does not respond, first return to the Controls screen and confirm the assignment shown there. Then test another input device or reconnect the current one. Because a complete official binding list is not available, the in-game display is the authoritative reference for your installation.

Text readability: use Font Style after the update
The day-one update adds Font Style. Apply the update before deciding that the game’s text is too small, too thin, or difficult to distinguish. The official notice confirms that the option exists, but it does not rank the available styles by readability, so the clearest choice depends on your display size, viewing distance, resolution, and eyesight.
A reliable way to choose a font
- Install the latest update and launch the game.
- Open the display, text, or accessibility settings and locate Font Style.
- Go to a dialogue-heavy scene with several lines of text, punctuation, and character names available on screen.
- Try each available style at your normal seating distance. Judge letter shapes, spacing, punctuation, and the difference between similar characters rather than looking only at a short menu label.
- Keep the style that remains easiest to scan for several minutes without leaning toward the display or increasing eye strain.
A style that looks attractive in a settings menu may be less legible during a long conversation. Testing in real dialogue also reveals whether the text remains clear against the game’s backgrounds and whether small punctuation marks are easy to distinguish.
When text still looks difficult to read
- Confirm that the update installed successfully and that Font Style is present in the current build.
- Check the display’s own sharpness, scaling, and picture mode before blaming the game. A television or monitor set to an unusual scaling mode can soften small text.
- On PC, use the display’s native 1080p output when that is the resolution you selected in the game. Scaling a lower-resolution image to a higher desktop resolution can make lettering appear less crisp.
- Move closer or increase the display size only as a last resort; the more useful first change is usually selecting the font that your screen renders most distinctly.
The available evidence supports recommending the clearest style for your own screen, not declaring one style universally superior.

| Mode | What it provides | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| Remastered graphics | Updated visual presentation. | You want the modernized appearance. |
| Original graphics | The classic visual presentation. | You prefer the original atmosphere or look. |
| Remastered sound effects | Updated sound-effects presentation. | You want the refreshed audio treatment. |
| Original sound effects | The classic sound-effects presentation. | You want the original audio character. |
The official description treats graphics and sound effects as switchable options, so you do not have to use the same preference for both. If you like the remastered visuals but prefer the original sound effects, test that combination in the game rather than assuming the modes must be paired. Conversely, if the modern visuals feel less familiar, Original mode is an official option rather than a workaround.
How to decide between the modes
Start with Remastered if your goal is a contemporary presentation. Start with Original if preserving the classic visual and audio atmosphere matters more than the update. Because the game supports switching during play, compare the two in the same scene instead of judging them from a menu preview. Look at character outlines, background detail, effects, and the way sound effects fit the action. Keep the mode that best matches your preference; there is no official ranking that makes one correct for every player.
PC performance: target 1080p at 60 fps
Steam publishes an estimated PC target of 1080p/60 fps at Low and 1080p/60 fps at High. Steam also warns that frame rate may drop in graphics-intensive scenes. The two estimates describe the intended target at two quality levels, not a promise that every computer will hold 60 fps in every location or effect-heavy sequence.

For that reason, use a stability-first process. Hardware close to the listed baseline should begin at Low. If frame pacing remains steady during normal play and demanding scenes, raise quality toward High one step at a time. This Low-first approach is an inference from Steam’s published Low and High estimates and its warning about demanding scenes; it is not a laboratory benchmark.

Published PC requirements
| Item | Steam listing | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 11; Steam additionally notes Windows 10 version 1809 or later. | Use a supported 64-bit Windows installation and keep it updated. |
| Processor | Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100. | These are the listed baseline CPU examples, not a guarantee of identical performance across all systems. |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM. | This is the published system-memory requirement. |
| Graphics API | DirectX 12. | Your Windows and graphics driver must support the required API. |
| Graphics memory | Steam notes a 4 GB VRAM GPU for DirectX 12 API support. | Check dedicated video memory and driver support, not only the GPU model name. |
| Storage | 8 GB. | Reserve at least the listed capacity before installation; updates can require additional temporary space. |
| Estimated targets | 1080p/60 fps at Low and 1080p/60 fps at High. | Steam warns that frame rate can drop in graphics-intensive scenes. |
The requirements describe the PC edition. They do not establish equivalent frame-rate behavior for PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo hardware, and no reliable platform-by-platform performance table is provided here.
Step-by-step PC tuning
- Confirm the prerequisites. Check Windows version, 64-bit processor support, available RAM, DirectX 12 capability, graphics memory, and free storage against the published values.
- Choose 1080p. Use 1920×1080 when your display and system can maintain it. This matches Steam’s published target and gives you a consistent reference point.
- Start at Low. This is the safer starting point for a computer near the baseline, particularly because Steam warns about drops in intensive scenes.
- Play through representative scenes. Do not judge performance only in a quiet menu or small room. Include effects-heavy areas and normal combat so you test the conditions most likely to expose frame-time instability.
- Raise quality gradually. Increase one quality setting or preset level at a time, then replay a demanding section. If frame pacing becomes uneven, return to the previous stable level.
- Keep 60 fps as the goal, not an obligation. A stable image at a lower quality level is preferable to a nominally higher preset that repeatedly stutters.
Because the official material does not publish a complete list of graphics sliders, this process avoids inventing menu names or claiming a particular option is the largest performance factor. Use the controls the game actually exposes and change only one variable at a time so you can identify which adjustment affects stability.
What to do when frame rate drops
- Drop the quality preset first. If you started at High, return to Low and check whether the demanding scene becomes consistent.
- Preserve the 1080p target when possible. Lowering quality before resolution keeps the image at the published reference output, although your own display may make a different trade-off preferable.
- Check for scene-specific behavior. Steam explicitly warns about graphics-intensive scenes, so a brief drop in a demanding sequence does not necessarily mean the entire configuration is unsuitable.
- Verify drivers and background load. Close unnecessary applications and confirm that the graphics driver and Windows installation meet the DirectX 12 requirement.
- Re-test after each change. Change one setting, return to the same demanding section, and compare frame pacing. Changing several values at once makes the result impossible to diagnose.
If a system meets only the published baseline, do not treat High as a required setting simply because Steam lists a High estimate. The baseline and the estimate are reference points; your final choice should be the highest setting that remains smooth in the scenes you actually play.
Settings by priority
If visual modernization is your priority
Use Remastered graphics and Remastered sound effects, then test Font Style in dialogue. On PC, begin at 1080p/60 fps with Low or High according to your hardware headroom, and retain the highest level that remains stable in demanding scenes.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
If preserving the classic presentation is your priority
Use Original graphics and Original sound effects. The game supports changing these choices during play, so you can compare a scene directly without restarting the entire game.
If reading comfort is your priority
Install the update, select Font Style, and compare each available style in a dialogue-heavy scene at your normal viewing distance. Choose the style that keeps letter shapes and punctuation easiest to distinguish; the official information does not identify a universal winner.
If consistent PC performance is your priority
Use 1080p as the reference resolution, start at Low when your hardware is near the baseline, and raise quality only after testing demanding scenes. Treat Steam’s 60-fps figures as estimated targets with possible drops, not as a guarantee.
Platform and version notes
The feature announcement lists the remaster for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam, with launch stated as October 16, 2026. The controls and display prompts you see depend on the platform and input device, so use the settings shown by your own installation.
The PC requirements and 1080p/60-fps estimates come from Steam’s 2026 listing. They should not be generalized into claims about console resolution, frame rate, or graphics options. Likewise, the existence of Remastered and Original modes is established across the release description, but a complete list of platform-specific graphics sliders is not published in the cited material.
Quick troubleshooting checklist
- Font Style is missing: install the day-one update, restart the game, and check the text or display settings again.
- Text remains hard to read: test every available style in a dialogue-heavy scene, then verify display scaling and native output resolution.
- Buttons do not match a guide: open the in-game Controls menu and follow the prompts for the connected device; do not assume another platform’s layout applies.
- The presentation feels wrong: switch between Remastered and Original graphics and sound effects during play and compare the same scene.
- PC performance is uneven: return to Low, keep 1080p if practical, close background applications, verify DirectX 12 support, and raise quality one step at a time.
- Performance drops only in intense scenes: remember that Steam warns of graphics-intensive drops; judge the setting by whether the overall experience is acceptably stable, not by a menu or quiet area alone.
Final recommendation
Update first, choose the presentation mode that matches your taste, and let the game’s own Controls menu define the correct prompts for your device. Use Font Style only after the update and judge it in real dialogue rather than from a short preview. On PC, use 1080p/60 fps as the reference, begin at Low when close to Steam’s baseline, and move toward High only when demanding scenes remain smooth. This approach follows the options and limits documented for the release without pretending that an unverified controller map, universal font ranking, or guaranteed platform-wide frame rate exists.
