You can take a screenshot without pressing the power or Home button using a tablet’s built-in accessibility menu, app switcher, Quick Settings tile, voice assistant, or supported gesture. The right option depends on your tablet: start with the instructions for iPad, Pixel Tablet, another Android tablet, or Samsung Galaxy Tab below.
Choose the method for your tablet
| Tablet | Button-free option | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| iPad | AssistiveTouch menu or Dwell Control Hot Corners | AssistiveTouch needs to be enabled in Settings; Hot Corners are for pointer users. Apple Support |

How to screenshot on an iPad without buttons
Use the AssistiveTouch menu
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch.
- Turn on AssistiveTouch. A floating menu button appears on screen.
- Open the screen you want to capture, tap the floating button, then choose Screenshot.
If Screenshot is not shown in the menu, open Customize Top Level Menu in the AssistiveTouch settings and assign an available menu item to the screenshot action. Apple lists taking a screenshot as an AssistiveTouch action in its iPad guide.
Use a pointer and Hot Corners
If you use a pointer, Apple’s AssistiveTouch guide also describes Dwell Control > Hot Corners. Assign a corner to the screenshot action, then hold the pointer still in that corner to trigger it. This avoids tapping the on-screen menu each time.

Check Quick Settings for a Screenshot tile. Swipe down twice from the top of the screen, find Screenshot, and tap it. If the tile is missing, open the Quick Settings edit interface and add it if your tablet offers that tile. Android’s screenshot instructions also describe asking Google Assistant to take a screenshot.
Android tablet interfaces differ by manufacturer, so the tile or its editing controls may not be available under those names on every device. Search Settings for “Screenshot” or check your tablet maker’s instructions if you cannot find them.

What to try if the option is missing or the screenshot fails
- Check the exact model and software version. A phone-only tutorial or instructions for a different tablet may show settings your device does not have.
- Search Settings. Try “AssistiveTouch,” “Screenshot,” “Palm swipe,” or “Assistant”; labels and locations vary.
- Look in Quick Settings. On Android, check both the tiles and the edit interface. On Pixel Tablet, use the app-switcher steps above if you do not see a tile.

- Check free storage. If the capture appears to happen but does not save, Android lists full storage as one possible cause in its troubleshooting guidance.
