If a Synth Riders personal best appears on your device but the global leaderboard still shows an older score, the run probably saved locally while its online submission failed—or you are viewing a different leaderboard filter. Check the exact song, difficulty, mode, modifiers, and Play Profile first. Then verify Steam or Meta authentication, update the game, allow services.synthriders.net through every relevant firewall or DNS filter, inspect ErrorLog.txt, and send reproducible evidence to Synth Riders support if the score still will not appear.
Why a personal best can exist without a global score
Synth Riders handles a completed run and a network submission as separate events. The game can finish the song, calculate a new personal or local best, and display that result even if the leaderboard service cannot be reached at the moment the song ends. A temporary connection drop, DNS block, firewall rule, or authentication problem can therefore leave the center-panel score looking correct while the online board remains unchanged.
Developer Wirrel describes the partial-submission symptom this way: “It’s not new, no – and if you have some scores submitted and some not, then it usually means the internet connectivity was a problem when you finished the song and the leaderboards were not accessible.” This is why a successful song completion does not prove that the score uploaded.

First check that you are looking at the right board
Open the leaderboard for the same song and reproduce every setting used for the run. A change in any of these can show a different result:
- Song or map, including whether it is an official track, Experience, Challenge, Party Mode, or custom map.
- Difficulty.
- Game mode.
- Selected modifiers.
- Official Play Profile.
- Solo versus multiplayer context.
Combined versus Modified
Combined shows the highest score for the selected song, difficulty, and mode regardless of modifiers. Modified shows the highest score for the exact modifiers currently selected. If you played with a modifier but are viewing Combined, or changed a modifier after the run and are viewing Modified, the expected score can appear to be absent.

Experiences, Party Mode, Challenges, custom maps, and special modifiers can have distinct scoring behavior or boards. Treat the apparent absence as an eligibility and filter question before assuming an account failure.

1. Reproduce the exact run and inspect both network views
- Write down the song, difficulty, mode, modifiers, Play Profile, and whether the run was solo or multiplayer.
- Finish a short, repeatable test run with those settings.
- Immediately open the song leaderboard.
- Check SELF → Combined and SELF → Modified, selecting the same modifiers and profile used for the test.
- Compare those views with Local. A new Local entry with no corresponding network entry indicates a submission or access problem; a network entry in another view indicates a filter mismatch.
2. Bring Steam online and update Synth Riders
On Steam, exit Offline Mode, restart the Steam client, and install any pending Synth Riders update. The Steam support listing identifies the title as Steam PCVR software with OpenXR support, online multiplayer, Steam Cloud, and Kluge Interactive support. The displayed Steam requirements include 3 GB of available storage.

Record the exact game version and branch. If the issue started after an update, test the current stable branch rather than assuming an older build is still compatible with the live service. Official 2026 release notes report fixes for score-summary stalls after network drops, incorrect Steam Frame leaderboard display, and multiplayer scores appearing as zero. An updated build may therefore resolve a known display or submission symptom that an older installation still exhibits.
3. Test the path to the leaderboard service
The developer’s explicit requirement is: “You need to whitelist services.synthriders.net through your home firewall and have good internet connectivity where you are playing in order to have access to the global boards.” Apply that instruction to every layer between the headset or PC and the internet:
- Router firewall and parental-control rules.
- DNS filtering or encrypted-DNS policies.
- Ad-blocking sinkholes and security gateways.
- Endpoint firewall or security software on the PC.
- Managed Wi-Fi policies on a school, office, hotel, or shared network.
Allow the hostname services.synthriders.net rather than relying only on a broad game executable exception. A DNS filter can block the hostname before the game ever reaches the router firewall, so check both places.

A successful upload on the hotspot points toward the home router, DNS policy, or firewall path. It does not prove that the game account is repaired; it identifies the network path as the likely difference. Restore your normal connection after testing and fix the blocking rule there.

4. Use the log to separate upload failures from other errors
When only some scores submit, inspect ErrorLog.txt in the Synth Riders installation folder immediately after a fresh test. Note the test time, then copy the log lines generated at that time. This is more useful than a general statement that Steam appeared online, because Steam connectivity and access to the Synth Riders leaderboard endpoint are separate checks.
Do not discard the local score while collecting evidence. The local or personal-best panel can update even when the network request made at song completion fails. Preserve the screenshot and the corresponding log excerpt before launching many more songs, which can make the relevant timestamp harder to identify.
5. Refresh platform authentication
Steam and Meta provide platform identity, login credentials, and account management; Synth Riders uses those credentials for platform access but does not manage the third-party account itself. Kluge’s privacy materials identify leaderboard interactions, scores, platform IDs, and multiplayer authentication as service data. Its EULA also notes that some features require third-party platform accounts and a stable internet connection.

- Sign out of Steam, close the client completely, sign back in, and launch the game under the intended Steam account.
- On Quest, verify that the intended Meta account is active on the headset.
- Check that you have not switched Steam accounts, family-shared a library, or changed the platform identity used by the installation.
- Handle compromised credentials, account recovery, friendship settings, or platform-level access with Steam or Meta; Kluge cannot administer those accounts.
Authentication refresh will not repair a blocked hostname. If a hotspot works while the home connection does not, fix the network path even after re-authenticating.
What the game can and cannot synchronize
Leaderboard synchronization is not the same as copying a personal-best file between devices. A local result is evidence that the game calculated and stored a run. A global result requires a reachable leaderboard service and valid platform access at submission time. Steam Cloud, where available, does not turn every local score state into a guaranteed global upload.
Online leaderboards and multiplayer may depend on continued service availability. Kluge’s EULA says online features can require a stable connection and that service availability can change with platform support. A historical Kluge notice about networked-service availability after Meta ended support was specific to Quest 1; it should not be generalized to Steam PCVR or newer Quest hardware.
When a recent update is the likely cause
Capture the version number before changing settings. Compare the date your problem began with the current Steam release notes. The 2026 notes include fixes for three symptoms that can look like missing leaderboard data: a score-summary stall following a network drop, Steam Frame scores displayed incorrectly on leaderboards, and multiplayer scores shown as zero.

If the current stable build contains the relevant fix, update and retest with a short solo run. If the issue remains, include the version and branch in your support report rather than repeatedly reinstalling. A reinstall cannot bypass a router block or an account-authentication failure.
Prepare a support ticket that can be reproduced
Support can investigate a missing submission much faster when one test run is fully described. Send the following package through the official Synth Riders contact form or the support communities listed by Kluge:
- Platform and headset, such as Steam PCVR, Quest, or PSVR2.
- Synth Riders version and, for Steam, the branch in use.
- Song or map name, difficulty, mode, modifiers, and Play Profile.
- Whether the run was solo, multiplayer, Challenge, Experience, Party Mode, or a custom map.
- Screenshot of the final score.
- Screenshots of SELF → Combined and SELF → Modified for the same song and settings.
- The relevant
ErrorLog.txtlines from the same session, with the test timestamp. - Whether
services.synthriders.netwas blocked, whether a hotspot test succeeded, and whether other online features worked.
Do not send only the old leaderboard position or a general “Steam is online” message. The exact filter state and the log timestamp let support determine whether the run was hidden, rejected as ineligible, blocked in transit, or affected by a known build issue.
