The Synergee Open Barbell is listed at $149.95 in the company’s US store, with 15 kg and 20 kg versions. Its published specifications include four ball bearings, a 1,000 lb stated maximum capacity, and a black phosphate shaft with chrome sleeves. But one important spec is inconsistent: the product page gives two different tensile-strength figures. And the available independent review is of Synergee’s separate Games bar, not this Open model—so treat the Open’s performance descriptions as manufacturer claims, not independently verified results.
What is the Synergee Open Barbell?
Synergee describes the Open as an alloy-steel bar made especially for CrossFit and recommends it for CrossFit and Olympic-style lifting. The US product page lists both variants at $149.95 when accessed in 2026; price and stock can change, so check the current product listing before buying.
The Open is not the same bar as Synergee’s Regional or Games models. The company’s comparison presents those as higher-capacity alternatives and recommends them for use cases such as commercial settings, overhead or shoulder-height drops, or buyers seeking what it calls a “great spin” for Olympic lifts. Those are Synergee’s recommendations, not independent comparative test results.

Synergee publishes different dimensions for the 15 kg and 20 kg versions. The values below come from its product page and are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.

For both versions, Synergee lists a black phosphate-coated shaft, chrome sleeves, 1.2 mm diamond knurling, dual marks, and four ball bearings. The detailed specification table also says the bar is straightened within 0.5 mm. The product page describes the shaft material as alloy steel.
How do you know which version is right for you?
Start with the weight and dimensions you use in training, rather than assuming that the “women’s” or “men’s” label alone determines fit. The 15 kg bar has a 25 mm shaft and shorter sleeves; the 20 kg bar has a 28 mm shaft and longer sleeves. Check that your rack, collars, plates, and preferred grip accommodate the version you choose. Both are listed with 50 mm sleeves.

- Choose the 15 kg version if you specifically want a lighter 15 kg bar with a 25 mm shaft and 13-inch sleeves.
- Choose the 20 kg version if you want a 20 kg bar with a 28 mm shaft and 16.4-inch sleeves.
How is the spin and whip?
Synergee lists four ball bearings and describes the Open’s whip as moderate. Its product page says: “Our Open Barbell has a Moderate whip. It’s ideal for dynamic and lifts without compromising control during heavier compound lifts.” That is the manufacturer’s description; the sources available do not establish an independent measurement of sleeve spin or shaft flex for the Open.
Synergee’s comparison article positions the Regional and Games models as options for lifters wanting “great spin” on Olympic lifts. It lists 1,500 lb maximum capacity and 190,000 PSI for those models. These remain manufacturer-published claims and should not be treated as independently verified performance figures.

Is the tensile-strength rating reliable?
The Open product page conflicts with itself. Its feature headline and FAQ state 150,000 PSI, while the detailed specification table gives 190,000 PSI for both versions. The available sources do not resolve which number is correct. Do not treat either figure as settled when comparing bars or making a purchase decision; ask Synergee to confirm the rating for the exact version.
Is this a good bar for Olympic lifts?
Synergee recommends the Open for Olympic-style lifting and CrossFit, and says it is especially intended for CrossFit. That makes it a plausible option to consider for a home gym if its listed dimensions, finish, and price fit your needs. However, the available independent review covers the separate Synergee Games Olympic Barbell, not the Open. It cannot verify this bar’s spin, durability, drop tolerance, or real-world feel.

Synergee’s comparison suggests considering its Regional or Games bar for frequent overhead or shoulder-height drops, commercial use, or a preference for more spin. That is company guidance rather than a tested threshold for when the Open is unsuitable. If you regularly drop loaded bars, consider the full equipment setup—including appropriate lifting plates and flooring—and confirm the manufacturer’s guidance for your intended use.

What should you check before buying?
Published specs are useful for screening a bar, but they do not answer every ownership question. Before ordering, confirm the exact variant, current price and stock, and whether the bar suits your rack and training. Synergee’s Open product page does not establish a warranty or country of manufacture in the available information.

- Confirm current availability and the listed price directly with the seller.
- Ask Synergee to clarify the conflicting tensile-strength figures.
- Check warranty terms and intended-use guidance with the seller; do not infer them from specifications for the Games or Regional bars.
- Compare the finish, knurl, bearing setup, stated capacity, and intended use against any other bar you are considering, while distinguishing manufacturer claims from independently tested results.
