The 20 kg Synergee Open is a budget-oriented Olympic-style bar built for CrossFit and Olympic lifting, according to its manufacturer. It has a 28 mm shaft, 50 mm sleeves and four ball bearings. Synergee lists a 1,000 lb maximum capacity, but its product page gives conflicting tensile-strength figures, and no independent test of this exact model is established here.
What the 20 kg Open Barbell includes
Synergee sells the Open in 15 kg and 20 kg versions. The specifications below are for the 20 kg model only; they are manufacturer listings, not independently measured results.

Synergee’s tensile-strength listing is inconsistent: its variant table gives 190,000 PSI, while feature copy and the FAQ give 150,000 PSI. Synergee says it made the Open especially for CrossFit and Olympic-style lifting, and describes its whip as moderate. Those are manufacturer claims; they do not establish how the bar performs under a particular lifter’s technique or load. The four ball bearings are a construction detail, not proof of a specific spin speed.

For a home gym where Olympic-style lifts and CrossFit workouts are the priority, the intended use aligns with the manufacturer’s stated purpose. If your training is primarily powerlifting, note that Synergee itself recommends its separate Rhino bar for powerlifting and characterizes that model as engineered for aggressive lifting. What the capacity and comparison models do—and do not—tell you
The Open’s listed maximum capacity is 1,000 lb. Capacity alone does not tell you how a bar feels or holds up to repeated drops, and the listing is not a durability test.

Synergee’s separate 20 kg Regional bar is listed at 1,500 lb capacity and 190,000 PSI tensile strength. Those figures belong to the Regional, not the Open. The manufacturer’s older comparison article also favors its Regional or Games bars over the Open for drops from shoulder height or overhead and for commercial spaces; because that guidance is older, check with Synergee for current recommendations before relying on it. - Check that your plates and collars fit 50 mm sleeves.
- Consider your expected drop frequency and training focus alongside the stated capacity; the listed capacity does not establish durability under repeated drops.
- Ask Synergee to clarify which tensile-strength figure applies to the 20 kg Open.
- Review the current warranty and support terms directly with the seller; they were not established in the product information cited here.
