Neither Sync.com nor Tresorit is a proven all-around winner: the better choice depends on your storage needs, devices, sharing workflow, and whether you are buying for yourself or a team. Sync.com’s listed personal plans reach 5 TB and unlimited storage, with tier-based recovery periods and sharing controls. Tresorit’s personal plans include a 50 GB option and support Linux; its business plans publish team and data-residency options. Both describe their services as end-to-end encrypted, but the available vendor materials do not establish an independent security winner or a speed winner.

At a glance: which service fits your needs?

Your priority Better fit based on published plan information Why
High-capacity personal storage Sync.com Its individual plans list 1 TB, 5 TB, and unlimited storage. The unlimited plan may be subject to upload-speed management beyond 10 TB of total account storage. Sync.com individual plans
A smaller personal plan Tresorit Its personal comparison lists a 50 GB tier, alongside 1 TB and 4 TB tiers. Tresorit personal plans
Linux desktop support Tresorit Tresorit lists Linux support, in addition to Windows, Mac, mobile apps, and web access. Check that the functions you need are available on your chosen platform.
Longer listed history on selected personal tiers Sync.com Its individual page lists 90 days for Personal 1TB, 180 days for Solo 5TB, and 365 days for Personal Unlimited. Sync.com individual plans
Business procurement features such as residency choices and admin policies Compare Tresorit Business with the exact Sync.com plan under consideration Tresorit’s business page publishes user counts, per-user storage, upload limits, compliance labels, residency options, and policy settings. These details must be checked against the contract and your actual compliance requirements. Tresorit business plans
A verified speed or independent security winner Not established The cited material is vendor-published plan and support information, not controlled performance testing or an independent comparative security audit.

How do personal storage plans compare?

The listed capacities create a straightforward starting point, but capacity alone does not determine value. Sync.com’s individual page lists 1 TB, 5 TB, and unlimited storage; Tresorit’s personal comparison lists 50 GB, 1 TB, and 4 TB. Choose based on the amount of data you expect to keep online, and inspect the renewal terms rather than treating an introductory rate as the long-term price.

Sync.com’s page advertises 50% off displayed plans for the first year. It describes annual prices as monthly equivalents and says the plan renews at its regular price after the promotional first year; taxes may apply. The cited Tresorit page information establishes plan capacities and features but does not provide a stable, directly comparable price for this comparison. Prices can vary with region, currency, taxes, and billing term, so check the live plan pages for your location before deciding. Sync.com plan and billing details · Tresorit personal plan details

Sync.com’s unlimited tier is not a promise of unrestricted upload speed: its plan page says speed management may apply when total account storage exceeds 10 TB. Consider this condition if you expect to store substantially more than 10 TB.

Which service fits your devices and file sizes?

Tresorit lists support for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and web. Its personal tiers vary in limits: Lite lists a 2 GB maximum file size and two devices, while Essential and Pro list a 10 GB maximum file size and 10 devices. Linux support may make Tresorit the more suitable candidate if Linux is essential, but verify that the specific features you rely on work in your chosen app or browser.

Sync.com’s help center says a Sync account can connect up to five active computers or mobile devices. That limit is worth checking if you move between several phones, tablets, and computers. Sync.com’s device-limit help page

How do file recovery and version history differ?

Sync.com lists 90 days of history for Personal 1TB, 180 days for Solo 5TB, and 365 days for Personal Unlimited. Tresorit’s personal comparison gives tier-dependent version-history counts; its business comparison lists 100 versions for Business and Professional and unlimited versions for Enterprise. These are not interchangeable measures: a version count is different from a time-based history window, and neither statement by itself explains every deleted-file recovery case.

Before choosing on recovery grounds, confirm how the exact plan handles deleted files, previous versions, and the retention period that applies to each. The published plan tables distinguish tiers, so do not assume a feature on one tier applies to all accounts. Which service has better sharing controls?

Both providers list controls that can help limit how shared files are used, but the available options depend on the plan. Sync.com lists read-only access, expiration dates, download limits, notifications, password protection, and granular permissions across its plans, with availability varying by tier. Tresorit offers encrypted link sharing with options such as passwords, expiration, and download limits. Its personal page lists link sharing up to 2 GB for the shown tiers; its business comparison lists up to 5 GB.

If you regularly send large files, compare the maximum share size on the specific plan, not just the general claim of secure or encrypted sharing. If recipient access restrictions matter more, check which controls are included at the tier you would actually buy. What should you know about encryption and local sync?

Sync.com and Tresorit both describe their services as end-to-end encrypted. Those are vendor statements, not the result of an independent comparative cryptographic audit; they do not establish that one service is more secure than the other for every use. Security also depends on how you configure access, protect your devices, and manage shared links.

There is an important local-sync distinction. Tresorit says synchronization is available only in its desktop apps—not in Tresorit Drive, Web Access, or mobile apps—and that files synchronized to a computer are decrypted locally. That means the synchronized files are readable on the computer while available for local use, so device security remains relevant. Tresorit’s synchronization setup and local-decryption details

Sync.com lists real-time backup and sync, plus Vault and files-on-demand functionality. These descriptions do not establish that the two providers’ implementations work identically. What should teams compare before choosing?

For organizational use, compare the exact business tiers and contract terms rather than extrapolating from personal plans. Tresorit’s business page publishes team user counts, storage per user, upload limits, compliance labels, data-residency choices, and administrator policy settings. For Sync.com, its help page says HIPAA compliance and a signed business associate agreement (BAA) require specified paid plans; it also says custom branding requires specified paid plans. Verify the current eligible plan and contract directly with the provider. Tresorit business plans · Sync.com plan limitations and paid-plan requirements

A vendor’s compliance label or availability of a BAA does not, on its own, make a customer’s deployment compliant. Confirm that the service, plan, configuration, and organizational practices meet the specific obligation you are responsible for.

  • Count the users and devices that need access, including contractors and mobile devices.
  • Compare storage allocation and maximum upload or shared-file size for the tier you would buy.
  • Check retention, administrator controls, and any required residency location.
  • Confirm the exact compliance scope and contractual terms with the vendor before storing regulated data.

How to make the final choice

  1. Set your capacity and budget. Match the listed storage tier to your expected use, then compare current regional pricing and the regular renewal price after any promotion.
  2. Check your devices and file sizes. Tresorit lists Linux and different personal-tier device and upload limits; Sync.com’s cited help page sets a five-active-device account limit.
  3. Choose the recovery model you need. Compare the history period or version count on the actual tier, and confirm deleted-file recovery separately.
  4. Test your sharing workflow on paper. Check link-size limits and whether the plan has the password, expiry, download, and permission controls your recipients require.
  5. For a team, verify procurement details. Confirm user counts, storage allocation, admin policies, residency, compliance scope, and contract language before rollout.

On the evidence available from the providers’ published plan and support information, Sync.com is the more apparent fit for personal users prioritizing larger listed capacities and longer listed history periods on selected tiers. Tresorit is a stronger candidate when Linux support, its listed encrypted-link options, or business-specific residency and policy features matter. Neither choice is established as universally faster or independently more secure.
