“Fallen leader” is a materially different frame from “Warchief.” The earlier description emphasizes command over a living faction and a decision made in a war on Azeroth. The Shadowlands description treats Sylvanas as the actor whose actions have destabilized the boundary separating the living world from the afterlife.
The expansion’s central premise
The November 23, 2020 Shadowlands content update notes place Sylvanas’s actions inside the expansion’s central story premise. Scale of the threat
Warbringers concentrates on a specific military operation and the destruction of Teldrassil. Shadowlands expands the frame to the border between Azeroth and the afterlife. The scale moves from a factional war to a cosmological disturbance, which is why the later portrayal feels less like a battlefield episode and more like the premise of an entire expansion.

How complete is this comparison?
