Sword x Staff is an exploration and idle-progression game built around automated battles: you prepare a character and supporting systems, then the game handles movement and skill use in combat. Start by choosing a class path that suits the role you want, advance the campaign to unlock more systems, and improve power across skills, equipment, companions, pets, relics, and map progress—not character level alone.
How Sword x Staff works
The core loop is to explore, gather resources, develop your character, and take on increasingly challenging battles. The Google Play listing describes AI-driven auto-battles and offline resource accumulation; Prydwen’s beginner guide says players do not manually control their character during PvE or PvP fights. In practice, your decisions center on preparation and progression rather than piloting each attack.
The Google Play listing also advertises more than 200 mix-and-match skills. That is the store’s published description, not an independently verified count of skills currently available in every version.
Activities and modes
- PvE: Story Adventure, co-op Dungeons, tower-climbing modes, and solo or group Raid Bosses are among the activities described by Prydwen.
- PvP: Prydwen lists Solo Arena and a 3v3 Tournament.
- Guilds: Guilds add a social layer and a headquarters-building system.
Mode availability and details can vary by server or version. Check the in-game menus for what is currently open to your account.

Which class should you choose first?
The opening choice is Warrior or Mage. Neither is a universally best pick: each develops toward different roles, and later class tiers and balance changes can alter how a path performs. Prydwen describes these class branches and role identities; Pro Game Guides favors Mage in its May 27, 2026 beginner guide for area damage and quicker early-stage clearing. Treat that as a dated recommendation, not a guarantee that Mage is best on every server or season.

Changing class later
Prydwen describes two class-switching methods with different effects: one changes class while leaving skills from the former class unusable unless you switch back; another converts pulled skills and raises the new class to your current level. These are changeable mechanics, so inspect the current client’s switch screen and consequences before committing. Do not assume a class change is free of rebuilding costs.
How battles, skills, and summons fit together
Because fights run automatically, your build and progression determine what your character brings to battle. Prydwen identifies Standard and Premium banners as sources of class skills and notes that duplicate skills contribute to power progression. It also describes an Affection Gacha that uses friend tokens for miscellaneous items.
For early campaign clearing, Pro Game Guides recommends area-damage skills and names Blazing Fire Ring, Wind’s Delight, and Water Assault in its May 27, 2026 guide. These are examples from that dated guide, not a current universal build; skill availability and balance may change. When choosing skills, consider whether you need damage against groups, stronger single-target output, or support for a team.

What increases Combat Power?
Combat Power reflects several connected systems, not just character level. Pro Game Guides identifies class upgrades, skill tier, pet quality, relics, gear, and map progress among its contributors. Prydwen also describes equipment, companion bonuses, and progression through campaign regions and class tiers.
- Class and skills: Advance your class and improve the skills that define your build.
- Equipment: Gear slots have fixed main stats; individual items can differ in secondary stats and substats, according to Prydwen.
- Companions: Prydwen says companions provide passive stats and can be improved through gifts and affection.
- Pets and Fantomons: Their quality is among the power factors listed by Pro Game Guides.
- Relics: These are another system Pro Game Guides includes among Combat Power contributors.
- Map progress: Campaign advancement can unlock regions, rewards, and additional systems.
Pro Game Guides’ May 27, 2026 article reports that relics unlock at level 30 and that a selected-category guarantee occurs every 10 pulls. Those are dated guide claims, not confirmed current guarantees. Check the relevant in-game feature for its present unlock condition and banner rules.

- Advance the campaign while stages remain manageable. New areas and systems are tied to progression. Prydwen also notes that later exploration can be gated by account level.
- Use idle resources to maintain steady upgrades. The Google Play listing describes offline resource accumulation; collect available rewards and apply them to the systems that support your build.
- Improve more than one power system. Check class and skills, gear, companions, pets, and relics rather than treating a level increase as the only useful upgrade.
- When a fight stalls, review your setup and unlocks. The game is not described as requiring manual control in battle. Consider available upgrades, skill choices, equipment, and whether more campaign progress or account levels are needed.
- Use current in-game rules for time-sensitive systems. Pull rates, guarantees, unlock thresholds, and class balance can change; rely on the client’s current descriptions for decisions involving resources.
Prydwen advises players there is no need to rush or repeatedly brute-force a difficult fight. If a stage remains too hard, develop other systems or return after progressing elsewhere rather than spending resources blindly.

What seasonal progression means for long-term investment
Prydwen describes seasons as larger updates that can add class tiers, regions, companions, gear, and bosses. Its May 26, 2026 class guide observed new tiers and seasons arriving roughly every two to three months in the version it covered. That is an editorial observation about cadence, not an official schedule; updates and timing may differ by server or version.
Seasonal additions can change the value of a class or build as new skills and tiers arrive. Before making a long-term investment, distinguish systems that persist from those tied to a season in the current client. A May 2026 guide describes a split between permanent and seasonal progression, but its specific reset thresholds are not established by the official store listing or Prydwen pages cited here. Do not assume a particular reset rule without checking the current season’s in-game notice.
