Switching from a Samsung Galaxy to a Google Pixel can mean rebuilding parts of your setup and leaving behind features such as Samsung DeX. The downsides are conditional: they matter most if you rely on Samsung-specific apps, a carefully arranged home screen, desktop mode, or Galaxy-device integrations. Many everyday data types can transfer, but a copy of your data is not the same as a copy of your One UI experience.
1. Samsung-specific apps and workflows may not carry over
Google says most Android data types can transfer to Pixel, but warns: “Some data stored in apps that are specific to devices from other manufacturers may not transfer.” Google Pixel Help’s transfer guide distinguishes between general phone data and content held inside manufacturer-specific apps.
If you rely on Samsung apps or One UI workflows, expect to check each one rather than assume it will reappear on Pixel. Some compatible apps may need to be installed or set up again, and a Samsung feature may not have a direct Pixel equivalent. The practical cost depends on which apps and routines you actually use.

Google’s Android-to-Pixel transfer table marks home-screen layout and recordings as not transferable from another Android phone. That is different from core personal data: the same table lists contacts, photos and videos, call history, files, text messages, and WhatsApp history among the data types that can transfer. See Google’s Pixel transfer details for the current list and conditions.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
If you have organized apps into folders, placed widgets, or tuned your screens around a particular routine, plan to recreate that arrangement on Pixel. Also check whether recordings are stored locally or in an app before wiping or trading in the Galaxy. A successful transfer of contacts and photos does not establish that every setting or piece of app content moved with them.
3. You lose Samsung DeX if you depend on desktop mode
Samsung describes DeX as a way to connect supported Galaxy phones or tablets to a monitor or TV for a larger-screen desktop experience and multitasking. If you use DeX for work, desktop-style apps, or a regular monitor setup, losing that Samsung feature can be a meaningful switching cost. Samsung’s DeX information lists compatibility by model and notes that DeX for PC support has changed with newer One UI releases.

- Google Pixel 10a is a durable, everyday phone with more[1]; snap brilliant photography on a simple, powerful camera, get 30+ hours out of a full charge[2], and do more with helpful AI like Gemini[3]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]
- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]
- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
Do not assume DeX is available on every Galaxy: check your exact model and the specific DeX connection method you use. If desktop mode is central to your routine, verify that the Pixel setup you are considering meets that need before switching; the documentation cited here does not establish a like-for-like Pixel replacement.
4. Galaxy accessories may pair, but integrations can differ
Google says Pixel can connect to Galaxy watches and other compatible accessories. That means switching does not automatically make every Samsung accessory unusable. But basic connection is not proof that Samsung-specific companion functions, seamless switching among Galaxy products, or every integration will behave identically. Check the exact accessory model and the feature you rely on against its compatibility information.
File sharing is also changing over time. Google has announced that AirDrop interoperability through Quick Share is expanding to partner Android devices, including Samsung, with supported-model rollout. See Google’s Android announcement. Because availability depends on supported devices and rollout, older assumptions about which phones can share directly should not be treated as permanent or universal.

Google supports Android-to-Pixel transfer by cable or Wi-Fi in supported setups. Its transfer guide lists Google Account data, contacts, files and downloads, calendar events, text messages and attachments, photos and videos, call history, Google Play apps, and WhatsApp chat history among transferable data. App data moves only when the app supports it; Google also gives additional conditions for items such as notes, passwords, and alarms.

- Review what matters on the Galaxy. Make a short list of Samsung apps, One UI routines, home-screen elements, recordings, and accessory features you would miss or need to rebuild.
- Choose cable or Wi-Fi transfer. A cable is optional, not a requirement for every setup. If transferring by cable, use a USB-C cable that supports data; not every USB-C cable does.
- Keep both phones available until checks are complete. Google warns that loss of power or connectivity can leave a transfer partial if the phones cannot reconnect. Check the Pixel for messages, photos, recordings, notes, and app-specific content you need before resetting or disposing of the Samsung.
- Recreate device-specific setup. Rebuild the home screen and test the Samsung apps, routines, desktop workflow, and accessory functions that matter to you rather than assuming settings transferred.
