The SwitchBot Smart Video Doorbell pairs a battery-powered outdoor camera with a dedicated 4.3-inch indoor monitor, and it supports local microSD recording without requiring cloud storage. That combination suits households that want a screen inside and a way to keep recordings locally. The trade-offs are a wired monitor, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi placement requirements, and smart-home support that is narrower than a universal camera feed. The specifications below are SwitchBot’s claims, not independent test results.
What comes with the SwitchBot Smart Video Doorbell?
The system consists of an outdoor doorbell camera and a separate indoor monitor. SwitchBot lists the monitor at 4.3 inches and says it can be used to view the doorbell feed indoors. The doorbell has a built-in rechargeable 5000mAh battery; the monitor uses a wired power supply. Check the exact regional bundle before buying, since bundle contents and availability can vary.
The monitor is more than a phone-app accessory: it gives the household a dedicated screen. But it is not a wireless extender. SwitchBot’s support index specifically lists the question of whether the add-on monitor works like a Wi-Fi extender; the available product information does not establish that it extends Wi-Fi coverage. Treat it as a monitor, not as a network-range solution.

SwitchBot lists 2304 × 1296 resolution, described as 2K, with a 165° diagonal field of view (135° horizontal and 79.5° vertical). The company describes the 16:9 view as head-to-toe framing. These are manufacturer specifications and framing claims; they do not establish how clearly faces or packages will appear at your door or how much of your own entryway will fit in frame.
#1 Best Overall
- 3D Face, Palm Vein & Fingerprint Access: SwitchBot Lock Vision Pro gives family members multiple keyless options. 3D structured light uses 20,000 IR dots and works in total darkness in under 1 second; palm vein reads contact-free from 3 to 10 inches; fingerprint recognition takes 0.3 seconds and stores up to 90 prints. Data is AES-128 encrypted and stored locally.
- ntegrated Entry Control: The 4.3-inch indoor monitor lets you answer or end calls, view live and recorded images, use preset quick responses, and unlock with one button when paired with the included Lock Vision Pro. The lock offers seven entry methods: face, palm vein, fingerprint, NFC, PIN, app, and physical key.
- 2K Head-to-Toe Door View: The video doorbell combines 2K FHD resolution, a 165° ultra-wide angle, 16:9 head-to-toe view, and color night vision for clear coverage of visitors and packages, including in complete darkness. Two-way audio enables real-time conversations, while preset quick responses help when you cannot answer.
- Local Storage, No Monthly Fee: The doorbell includes a 4GB SD card for secure local storage with no subscription required and supports cards up to 512GB; optional cloud storage is available. Motion detection sends alerts when someone approaches. The 5,000mAh battery and indoor monitor's integrated WiFi repeater support a stable 2.4GHz connection.
- Reliable Power and Installation: Lock Vision Pro's 10,000mAh rechargeable battery lasts up to 12 months; CR123A backup supports 500 emergency unlocks and 5-year standby, with USB-C emergency power. The smart lock installs with a Phillips screwdriver on most US doors. The doorbell's indoor monitor requires a power cable; for best performance, keep it within 5m/one wall in apartments or 10m/one wall in standalone homes.
For night viewing, the product page says the camera uses infrared and white light. No independent night-video assessment is established here, so do not treat that feature description as proof of a particular image quality or package-identification performance.
Can you use it without a cloud subscription?
Yes, according to SwitchBot’s product listing and setup instructions: the system supports local microSD recording, and the setup flow lets you defer the cloud offer and continue using the doorbell. The listing says a 4GB microSD card is included and supports cards up to 512GB. Optional cloud storage is also offered; the listing describes a 30-day trial for new users, but trial and subscription terms can change.
Local recording is the strongest fit for buyers who want a path that does not depend on a cloud subscription. Confirm what is included in the specific bundle you are considering, and check card compatibility before purchasing a replacement; the available information does not identify a particular card model.

What power and installation constraints matter?
The outdoor doorbell is rechargeable over USB-C, while the indoor monitor requires wired power. That means you should plan for a suitable outlet for the screen and a way to recharge the doorbell battery. SwitchBot does not establish an independently verified runtime here. Its product page cautions: “Tested under SwitchBot Lab conditions. Actual performance may vary.” Battery life in your home should therefore not be inferred from the capacity alone.
Pairing requires a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n); the listing also names BLE 5.0. In its setup instructions, SwitchBot specifies app version 9.19 or newer at the time those instructions were written. The app flow pairs the powered monitor and doorbell, then asks for the 2.4GHz network credentials. If you do not want cloud storage, choose “Later” when the cloud offer appears. See SwitchBot’s doorbell setup instructions for the current steps.
SwitchBot advises minimizing the distance between the doorbell and monitor, and between the monitor and router. Its listing says to place the monitor near the router, avoid metal surfaces, and keep it within an unobstructed 10m of the steel entry door in villas or 5m in apartments. These are manufacturer recommendations, not guaranteed operating ranges; walls, layout, interference, and building materials can affect connectivity.

Does it work with Alexa, Apple Home, or Home Assistant?
SwitchBot lists Alexa streaming, Home Assistant access through RTSP with event-triggered viewing, and Matter linkage with a SwitchBot Smart Lock. These are manufacturer-stated integrations. The cited product information does not establish that the camera stream is directly available in Apple Home, or that Matter carries video to every smart-home platform. If an integration is essential, confirm the specific workflow and regional support before choosing the system.
Will it work overseas, and what about alerts?
SwitchBot’s support index includes a presale question titled “Can I Use SwitchBot Smart Video Doorbell Overseas?” but the index alone does not resolve every country’s availability, connectivity, or feature restrictions. Check the product listing and support information for your region rather than assuming the same bundle and services are available everywhere.
The support index also lists topics about false motion alerts, cloud storage, and the monitor’s live feed, but those topic titles do not establish notification latency, motion-detection accuracy, or reliability. Likewise, the available product information does not answer whether a ring triggers an Apple Watch notification. If that behavior is a purchase requirement, verify it for your phone, watch, app version, and region before relying on it.

What are the outdoor rating, dimensions, and warranty?
SwitchBot rates the outdoor doorbell IP65 and lists a one-year warranty. Its stated operating temperatures are -20°C to 45°C for the doorbell and -15°C to 45°C for the monitor. The product page lists the doorbell at 131 × 65 × 30mm and 202g, and the monitor at 125 × 129 × 29mm and 325g. Confirm warranty coverage and terms in your region.
Who should consider this doorbell?
- A good fit: households that want a dedicated indoor screen and local recording, and can provide wired power to the monitor and a reliable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection.
- Check carefully first: buyers who depend on Apple Home video, smartwatch alerts, dependable performance through challenging walls, or a known battery-runtime figure. Those details are not established by the cited product information.
- Before installation: assess monitor placement near the router and entry door, confirm the local bundle and storage card, and check current regional cloud terms if you may use them.
