De SwitchBot AI Hub combineert camera-analyse, SwitchBot-apparaatbediening en functies voor Home Assistant, Frigate en Matter in één hub. De EU-winkel vermeldde op 7 oktober 2026 een prijs van €259,99. Dat maakt hem vooral interessant als je de extra camera- en automatiseringsfuncties ook echt gaat gebruiken; voor alleen een eenvoudige SwitchBot-hub zijn er goedkopere modellen.
Wat doet de SwitchBot AI Hub?
De AI Hub is een smart-homehub die verschillende functies samenbrengt: verwerking van camerabeelden, integraties met SwitchBot-apparaten en ondersteuning voor onder meer Home Assistant, Frigate, RTSP en Matter. De fabrikant noemt AI-functies zoals gezichtsherkenning, huisdierdetectie, objectclassificatie, zoeken op trefwoorden en slimme rapporten. Dat zijn productclaims, geen onafhankelijke bevestiging dat iedere functie in elke regio, firmwareversie of abonnementsvorm beschikbaar is. Bekijk de EU-productspecificaties van SwitchBot.
De belangrijkste praktische voorwaarde is dat je voor AI-camerafuncties een camera nodig hebt. Zonder camerabeelden kan de hub die analyse niet uitvoeren. De AI Hub kan daarnaast interessant zijn als je een SwitchBot-installatie wilt combineren met lokale smart-homecomponenten, maar de aanwezigheid van die integraties betekent niet automatisch dat elk apparaat of elke functie ermee werkt.

Welke camera’s en apparaten zijn compatibel?
Camera’s voor AI-analyse
SwitchBot noemt de Pan/Tilt Cam Plus, Video Doorbell en RTSP-camera’s als mogelijke camerabronnen. De EU-specificaties zeggen dat de hub maximaal acht SwitchBot PTC Plus- of RTSP-camera’s kan beheren. Controleer vóór aankoop of het exacte cameramodel en de functies die je wilt gebruiken worden ondersteund: een algemene RTSP-vermelding garandeert niet dat iedere RTSP-camera identiek werkt. De internationale productpagina van SwitchBot beschrijft de genoemde AI-functies en cameravoorwaarde.

Home Assistant, Frigate en Matter
Volgens SwitchBot heeft de AI Hub een ingebouwde Home Assistant Core-container en is hij volledig compatibel met Frigate. De fabrikant vermeldt ook RTSP-ondersteuning. Dat kan de hub aantrekkelijk maken voor gebruikers die camera’s en automatiseringen in hun bestaande systeem willen integreren. De productspecificaties geven echter geen reden om aan te nemen dat deze integraties zonder configuratie werken of dat iedere gewenste functie in elk systeem beschikbaar is.
De Matter Bridge kan volgens de EU-specificaties maximaal 30 SwitchBot-subapparaten ondersteunen. Dit is een brug voor ondersteunde SwitchBot-apparaten naar een Matter-netwerk, niet een algemene belofte dat de AI Hub alle Matter-, Zigbee- of Thread-apparaatklassen rechtstreeks bestuurt. Voor Matter-bridging is bovendien een geschikte platformcontroller of hub aan de andere kant nodig. SwitchBot legt de compatibiliteit en werking van Matter-bridging uit in zijn helpcentrum.

Werkt AI-analyse lokaal of via de cloud?
SwitchBot presenteert videoanalyse als lokaal en privé en noemt ook lokale VLM-automatisering. Dat is een claim van de fabrikant, geen onafhankelijke audit van alle gegevensstromen. Een eerdere review van Matter Alpha meldde dat tijdens een eerdere feedbackronde veel AI-functies cloud-AI leken te vereisen. Die ervaring stelt niet vast hoe de huidige firmware werkt en is geen volledige technische audit. Lees de review van Matter Alpha voor de beschreven eerdere ervaring.
Als lokale verwerking voor jou een harde eis is, kijk dan niet alleen naar de algemene privacyclaim. Controleer per functie welke verwerking lokaal gebeurt, welke netwerkverbinding nodig is, of een account vereist is en waar beelden en gegenereerde gegevens worden opgeslagen en hoe je ze kunt verwijderen. De beschikbare productinformatie maakt die volledige functie-voor-functiegrens niet duidelijk.

Zijn er terugkerende kosten?
De internationale producttekst noemt één gratis maand Home AI Agent en daarna US$4,99 per maand. Dat is een regionale claim van de internationale winkel, geen bevestigde prijs of abonnementsvoorwaarde voor Nederlandse klanten. De EU-productpagina bevestigt niet dat de proefperiode, maandprijs en inbegrepen functies hetzelfde zijn. Controleer daarom de Nederlandse winkel- en abonnementsvoorwaarden en welke AI-functies zonder abonnement beschikbaar blijven voordat je de totale kosten inschat. De internationale productpagina vermeldt de prijsclaim voor Home AI Agent.

Is de AI Hub de meerprijs waard?
De keuze hangt vooral af van de functies die je daadwerkelijk nodig hebt. De AI Hub is het overwegen waard als je camera’s wilt inzetten voor AI-analyse en daarnaast waarde hecht aan de genoemde Home Assistant-, Frigate-, RTSP- en Matter-mogelijkheden. De combinatie is omvangrijk, maar een camera is een vereiste voor de AI-camera-analyse en eventuele abonnementsvoorwaarden kunnen de totale kosten verhogen.
