Suunto has confirmed a screenless heart-rate monitor: the Suunto Smart Heart Rate Belt 2, announced on 8 September 2026. It is a chest-worn belt for endurance training, not a separately announced project explicitly aimed at Garmin. Suunto has not stated a price or confirmed that it is developing another unreleased device.
What Suunto has actually announced
The Smart Heart Rate Belt 2 is a screen-free chest strap that records exercise heart rate and high-resolution beat-to-beat R-R interval data. Suunto describes it as a product for serious endurance training and says its ECG-based detection identifies QRS-complex artifacts, helping it derive heart-rate information from the electrical signal measured at the chest.
The belt can save up to 20 hours of rolling data, connect to as many as three Bluetooth devices at the same time and provide approximately 460 hours of battery life, according to Suunto’s 2026 announcement. Those figures are manufacturer specifications, not results from independent testing.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsRunning-form data with a compatible Suunto watch
When paired with a compatible Suunto watch, the belt’s six-axis inertial measurement unit adds running-dynamics measurements. Suunto lists cadence, ground-contact time, vertical oscillation, flight time, the ground-contact-time/flight-time ratio and left/right ground-contact balance. These metrics are intended for athletes who want more than a live pulse reading and are comfortable analyzing form data after or during training.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Suunto’s product announcement summarizes the goal as: “Suunto Smart Heart Rate Belt 2 brings precision to serious training.”
Is this a Garmin competitor?
It is reasonable to compare the belt with Garmin’s chest monitor, but the available announcement does not say Suunto designed it to target Garmin or that a separate Garmin-focused product is in development. The confirmed product is simply a new Suunto chest strap that occupies the same broad category as Garmin’s HRM 600.

Suunto Smart Heart Rate Belt 2 vs Garmin HRM 600
| Specification | Suunto Smart Heart Rate Belt 2 | Garmin HRM 600 |
|---|---|---|
| Form factor | Screenless chest-worn heart-rate belt | Chest-worn heart-rate monitor |
| Heart-rate data | Exercise heart rate and high-resolution beat-to-beat R-R intervals; ECG-based QRS-complex detection | Heart rate and heart-rate variability (HRV) |
| Additional measurements | With a compatible Suunto watch: cadence, ground-contact time, vertical oscillation, flight time, GCT/FT ratio and left/right ground-contact balance | Records activity without a watch and transmits to compatible Garmin watches, Edge computers and apps |
| Onboard memory | Up to 20 hours of rolling data | Activity recording without a watch is supported; the announcement does not state a storage-hour limit |
| Connections | Up to three simultaneous Bluetooth devices | Compatible Garmin watches, cycling computers and apps |
| Battery | Approximately 460 hours | Up to two months on a rechargeable battery |
| Announced price | Not stated in Suunto’s 8 September 2026 announcement | $169.99 suggested retail price in Garmin’s 15 May 2025 announcement |
The battery figures use different units and should not be treated as a laboratory head-to-head result. Suunto’s approximately 460 hours describes operating time, while Garmin’s “up to two months” is a calendar-style estimate. Actual endurance depends on recording behavior, transmission and charging conditions.
Where Garmin CIRQA fits—and where it does not
Garmin’s CIRQA Smart Band, announced on 21 July 2026, is Garmin’s first screen-free smart band. It can be worn on the wrist or arm and is designed for broader wellness and activity tracking: wrist-based heart rate, Body Battery, Pulse Ox, stress, skin temperature, sleep and training features. Garmin lists up to 10 days of battery life and a $199.99 suggested retail price.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
CIRQA is therefore an adjacent product, not a chest-strap equivalent. A chest belt is generally chosen for electrical-signal heart-rate capture during demanding exercise; CIRQA is a screenless wearable for health and activity information collected from the wrist or arm. The two devices answer different buying questions even though neither has a display.
What the Suunto belt means for athletes
For endurance training
The combination of R-R intervals, long stated battery life and 20 hours of internal memory is aimed at users who want detailed training data without wearing a watch continuously or relying on a phone during every session. Multi-device Bluetooth support can also suit a setup that sends heart rate to a watch and another training device at the same time.

For runners studying technique
The six-axis motion sensor becomes most relevant when a compatible Suunto watch is part of the setup. The listed running-dynamics fields can help an athlete examine symmetry, contact time and vertical movement, but the announcement does not establish that these metrics are more accurate than equivalent systems from other manufacturers.

The practical choice is less about “screenless” versus “screened” and more about which platform receives and interprets the data. Suunto emphasizes pairing with its watches and training features; Garmin’s HRM 600 is built around Garmin watches, Edge computers and apps. Compatibility should be checked for the exact watch, app and Bluetooth configuration before purchase.

Availability, price and evidence limits
As of 16 October 2026, Suunto’s announcement reviewed here does not provide a price for the Smart Heart Rate Belt 2. Garmin’s announced prices are $169.99 for the HRM 600 and $199.99 for CIRQA, both suggested retail prices stated in their respective announcements. Retailer stock, regional pricing and release timing should be verified separately because they can change by market.
No independent comparative accuracy test or verified retailer listing establishes a winner between the Suunto belt and Garmin HRM 600. The defensible conclusion is that Suunto now has a confirmed screenless chest monitor with unusually long stated battery life, onboard memory and running-form data, while Garmin offers a directly comparable chest monitor plus a separate wrist/arm tracker category.
