Microsoft’s top Surface Laptop Ultra configuration—RTX Spark, 128GB of unified memory and a 1TB SSD—was listed as out of stock in a Microsoft product-page snapshot described by Wccftech on October 11, 2026. That report does not establish how many laptops sold, whether demand exceeded supply, or whether CUDA drove the listing status. CUDA could make the platform appealing to people already using NVIDIA software, but the sales-causation claim remains unverified.
What was reported out of stock?
Wccftech reported that Microsoft’s product page showed the 128GB/1TB Surface Laptop Ultra configuration priced at $5,899.99 as out of stock on October 11, 2026. The article said lower-tier configurations were available when it checked. TechCrunch also reported near launch that Microsoft described its highest-end device as out of stock, with approximate prices across the lineup of $2,600 to $5,900. These are reports of stock status at particular times, not a guarantee of availability now; stock can vary by region, retailer and date. Wccftech’s October 11 report and TechCrunch’s October 7 report provide the reported snapshots.
Microsoft’s October 7 announcement set preorders from $2,599 and availability beginning October 16, 2026. Those were launch announcement terms, not a promise that a specific configuration would remain in stock. Microsoft’s announcement describes the launch timing and configurations.

Does the reported stockout prove strong sales?
No. A product-page stock label alone cannot distinguish high demand from limited initial inventory, a temporary listing change, or other supply factors. Wccftech said Microsoft had not shared supply or sales data and that limited early supply was unconfirmed. The reports provide no unit sales, shipment count, sell-through rate, inventory quantity or independent demand study.

- Brilliant Display – Stunning 13.8" PixelSense touchscreen[1], with brilliant LCD display[2], unleashes luminous whites, deeper blacks and colors so richly saturated bringing vivid life into every frame – perfect for work, school, streaming and creative tasks.
- Power that lasts all day – With 20 hours of battery life[3], the new Surface Laptop powers through your entire day, so you can create, work and stream from morning to night without reaching for a charger.
- Work at the speed of your ideas – Built with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite (12 Core) processors, Surface Laptop delivers fast, AI‑accelerated performance—making it the most powerful Surface laptop for everything from multitasking to demanding workloads.
- The ports you need – Charge on-the-go, transfer data fast, or create the ultimate desktop set up with two USB-C / USB4[4] ports.
- Built-in AI Companion – Work smarter, create freely, and communicate with confidence—Copilot[5] on Windows 11 is always there to help.
For that reason, “listed as out of stock” is supportable; “sold out because of CUDA” is not. The available reporting establishes neither the scale of demand nor a cause for the stock status.
Why might CUDA matter to RTX Spark buyers?
NVIDIA positions RTX Spark as a Windows PC platform with CUDA and a broader stack that includes RTX, DLSS, TensorRT, OptiX, Reflex and G-SYNC. That can be relevant to developers and creators whose existing projects, libraries or workflows depend on NVIDIA tools. For them, software compatibility may be a reason to consider a system built around RTX Spark.

- With 16 GB of memory, runs as many programs as you want without losing the execution
- The 13.5" 2256 x 1504 screen provides a great movie watching experience
- 512 GB SSD is enough to store your essential documents and files, favorite songs, movies and pictures
- 8 Hours battery run time helps you stay unwired and work longer non-stop
That is a plausible buyer appeal, not evidence that CUDA caused this particular configuration to go out of stock. NVIDIA and Microsoft promote the platform, but the cited reports do not include buyer surveys, conversion data or a comparison showing that CUDA drove purchases. NVIDIA’s June 1, 2026 RTX Spark announcement outlines the platform and its software ecosystem.

Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra as a laptop built around NVIDIA RTX Spark, with configurations reaching up to 6,144 Blackwell RTX GPU cores, 20 Grace CPU cores and 128GB of unified memory. The company lists a 15-inch PixelSense Ultra touchscreen and says the device is under 4.5 pounds and less than 18mm thin. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent hands-on measurements.

128GB is shared memory, not 128GB of dedicated GPU VRAM
Microsoft’s footnote says the 128GB total is dynamically shared between the CPU and GPU, and that the amount addressable by the GPU is less than the total. Buyers should not treat the headline capacity as 128GB of dedicated graphics memory. For a specific AI, graphics or development workload, usable memory and measured performance matter more than the system-wide total by itself.
AI and workload claims need attribution
Microsoft says the laptop can run AI models exceeding 120 billion parameters locally and cites up to one petaflop of AI performance. Its fine print identifies the petaflop figure as theoretical FP4 performance using sparsity. NVIDIA separately claims RTX Spark can run 120-billion-parameter language models with up to a one-million-token context, render 90GB-plus 3D scenes, edit 12K 4:2:2 video, and play AAA games at 1440p above 100 frames per second. These are vendor capability claims; the cited materials do not provide independent tests of retail Surface Laptop Ultra units.

Ports, displays and storage
Microsoft lists three USB-C ports total, HDMI, USB-A, an SD card reader and a 3.5mm audio jack. It says the laptop can drive up to three 4K displays, subject to compatible displays, cables and accessories. Microsoft also describes the storage as user-removable and upgradeable, but its announcement does not specify a compatible SSD interface, form factor or supported capacity. Check the device’s service documentation and exact configuration before choosing a replacement or upgrade drive.

Is the Surface Laptop Ultra a gaming PC?
It is a laptop with an NVIDIA RTX platform that Microsoft describes for gaming as well as creative work, development and local AI. NVIDIA’s gaming performance figures are vendor claims, not independent Surface Laptop Ultra benchmarks. A gaming buyer should look for measured performance in the games and resolution they care about, along with sustained thermal behavior and battery performance; the cited launch materials do not establish those results.

What should buyers check before choosing an RTX Spark laptop?
Compare machines against the actual workload rather than relying on peak platform claims. The Surface Laptop Ultra’s headline 128GB is shared system memory, and Microsoft says GPU-addressable capacity is lower. Confirm that the applications and frameworks you use support the relevant NVIDIA software stack, then seek workload-specific measurements rather than assuming every CUDA workload benefits equally.
Quick Recap
- Memory: establish how much memory your workload can use and whether shared-memory behavior meets its needs.
- Performance: prioritize measured results for your application over theoretical peak figures or vendor capability examples.
- Price: compare configurations with equivalent memory and storage, not just the entry price.
- Mobility: consider portability alongside sustained performance and battery behavior; these launch sources do not provide independent testing of those factors.
- Upgrades: verify SSD compatibility and service details before relying on the stated upgradeability.
- Availability: check the configuration and seller for your location, since a dated stock report does not establish present availability.
