Short answer: Buy an Analogue Super Nt only if you want to play original SNES or Super Famicom cartridges now and can locate a fairly priced, verified used unit. The teased Retro Remake project, identified as SSNT/SuperFPGA, is not yet a spec-complete product: its price, release date, cartridge support, video outputs and availability remain unconfirmed as of October 13, 2026.
The decision in one minute
The Analogue Super Nt is a released FPGA console with documented support for SNES and Super Famicom cartridges, region-free operation, HDMI output and original-style controller ports. Analogue says it supports more than 2,200 games, but that figure is a manufacturer claim rather than a recent independent compatibility test. Its official store listing shows a historical price of $199.99 for the Black model, with cables and a power supply included but no controller; the listing is currently sold out, and the Transparent model is marked discontinued.
Retro Remake’s SSNT/SuperFPGA is only a teaser reported on October 8, 2026. The available report quotes co-founder Taki Udon saying, “It’s time to run it back,” followed by “Don’t worry, we have all regions covered.” Those messages establish a project and regional design interest, not a finished specification. There is no confirmed cartridge slot, resolution, controller interface, price, release window or retail inventory to compare.

Do not confuse SSNT with SuperStation One
The names are easy to mix up. The teased SSNT/SuperFPGA is described as an FPGA SNES-style project. SuperStation One is a separate, documented product aimed at PlayStation 1 software and MiSTer-compatible FPGA cores. Its listed Cyclone V hardware, HDMI modes up to 1536p/1440p and analog video outputs belong to SuperStation One, not to SSNT/SuperFPGA. No specification from SuperStation One should be transferred to the unannounced SNES project.

Cartridge support is the biggest practical difference
Super Nt: a documented original-cartridge workflow
The Super Nt is designed around physical SNES and Super Famicom cartridges. You supply the cartridge, connect a controller, select a display mode and play through HDMI. That matters to collectors who already own carts, want to use original save hardware, or prefer a console that does not require a ROM library on a storage card.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAnalogue’s product page describes the system as “Engineered with an FPGA” and claims support for more than 2,200 SNES and Super Famicom games. Treat both statements accurately: FPGA describes the implementation, while the game count is the company’s compatibility claim, not an independently verified full-library result.

SSNT/SuperFPGA: cartridge behavior is an open question
The teaser does not establish whether SSNT/SuperFPGA will read original cartridges, use downloadable cores, require a proprietary adapter or combine several methods. A product called an FPGA SNES console can take many forms, so a buyer should not infer physical cartridge support from the name alone. Until Retro Remake publishes a port layout, supported media and compatibility policy, Super Nt is the only option in this comparison with explicit cartridge documentation.
Video, audio and controller connections
Super Nt display choices
The official specification lists HDMI output at 1080p, 720p and 480p, with NTSC 60Hz support. It also lists scaler and scanline options, allowing you to choose a cleaner modern-TV presentation or a look closer to a period display. The specification names digital audio and original-style controller ports. The store listing does not include a controller, so budget for a compatible SNES/Super Famicom pad and verify its connector or adapter before buying.
A maximum of 1080p is sufficient for a sharp, low-scaling image on most televisions and monitors, but it is not the same as the higher modes listed for SuperStation One. Those higher modes cannot be promised for SSNT/SuperFPGA.

SSNT/SuperFPGA output details are not published
No confirmed HDMI resolution, analog output, scanline implementation, audio format or controller connector appears in the cited SSNT/SuperFPGA coverage. If your setup depends on a particular scaler, a CRT, wireless pads or original wired controllers, wait for those specifications rather than buying on the assumption that the project will mirror the Super Nt.

Accuracy and latency: separate claims from measurements
Analogue markets the Super Nt with absolute language, including “zero lag” and “total accuracy.” Its technical sheet also uses “Lag free” and “zero signal degradation.” These are vendor claims. The available material does not provide a controlled latency test, a current independent full-library audit or a direct comparison against SSNT/SuperFPGA.
WIRED’s historical 2018 review discusses the Super Nt’s FPGA approach and 1080p rendering, but it cannot establish the condition of a used unit in 2026 or predict the behavior of an unreleased competitor. For a used-console purchase, physical condition, display processing and controller quality can matter as much as the original design.
Availability, price and ownership risk
What the official listing tells you
The official Black Super Nt listing shows $199.99 as the listed price and identifies the included HDMI and USB cables and power supply. It explicitly says a controller is not included and currently marks the unit sold out. An official listing for the Transparent variant is marked discontinued. Those pages document the manufacturer’s listing status, not today’s resale value.
What buying used changes
With official stock unavailable, many buyers will encounter second-hand units. Resale prices, warranty coverage and seller quality vary, and no current market survey is established here. A low price can be attractive, but a missing power supply, damaged cartridge connector or intermittent HDMI port can erase the saving. Ask for a return period and proof that the exact unit boots a cartridge before committing.

Firmware support
Analogue’s Super Nt firmware page lists version 5.2 dated May 30, 2023, as the latest listed release. That tells you the current documented software baseline; it is not a promise of future updates. A used unit on an older version may still operate, but you should be comfortable following the manufacturer’s update process and using an SD card if an update is needed.
Used Super Nt buying checklist
- Identify the exact model. Confirm whether the seller has the Black unit or the Transparent variant, and ask for clear photos of the console, ports and serial label.
- Confirm the package. Check that the HDMI cable, USB cable and power supply are present or price replacements before agreeing to buy. A controller is not part of the official package.
- Test more than one cartridge. Ask the seller to demonstrate a clean boot with at least two known-good SNES or Super Famicom cartridges. If possible, include carts from different regions because region-free operation is a documented feature but individual cartridge condition still varies.
- Inspect the cartridge connector. Look for bent contacts, looseness, corrosion or a shell that has been forced into the slot. Do not treat a single dirty cartridge as proof that the console is defective.
- Check every controller port. Test both original-style ports with a known-good pad and verify that directional inputs, buttons and start/select all register.
- Verify video output. Have the seller show a stable HDMI image at a supported mode. Flicker, dropouts or an image that changes when the cable moves indicate a problem to resolve before purchase.
- Confirm settings access. Ask for a photo of the system information or settings screen and compare the firmware version with the latest version listed by Analogue. Do not assume an update will repair physical faults.
- Get written return terms. A short testing window is valuable because some cartridge and HDMI failures appear only after the console warms up or after repeated insertion.
Setting up a Super Nt after purchase
- Place the console where the HDMI and USB/power cables will not be strained, then connect the included power supply and HDMI cable to a display that accepts the chosen resolution.
- Connect a compatible SNES/Super Famicom controller to an original-style port. Because the official package excludes a controller, verify compatibility before plugging in an adapter or wireless receiver.
- Inspect and clean a cartridge according to safe cartridge-care practice, insert it straight into the slot and power on. If the game does not boot, test another known-good cartridge before changing console settings.
- Choose 1080p, 720p or 480p and adjust scaler or scanline options to suit your display. Record the setting that works reliably so troubleshooting later has a known baseline.
- If the firmware is outdated, download the update instructions and package from Analogue’s firmware support page, use an appropriately prepared SD card and follow the manufacturer’s sequence exactly. Do not interrupt power during an update.
Cartridge problems are not always console problems
Analogue’s troubleshooting guidance notes that SNES and Super Famicom cartridges are roughly 20 to 30 years old. Oxidized contacts, dust, worn shells and failing save batteries can produce symptoms that look like a console fault. Start with the least invasive checks:
- Power off before removing a cartridge.
- Try a second cartridge that is known to work.
- Check whether the problem follows one cartridge or occurs with all cartridges.
- Clean contacts using a method appropriate for vintage cartridges; avoid scraping contacts or flooding the slot with liquid.
- Reseat the cartridge without rocking it sideways.
- If multiple known-good cartridges fail, document the behavior and contact the seller or Analogue support rather than repeatedly forcing the connector.
A game that boots inconsistently may indicate cartridge contacts or aging save hardware, while failures across several clean cartridges point more strongly toward the console, power supply or connector.
When waiting for SSNT/SuperFPGA makes sense
Wait if you are buying new
If you do not already own SNES cartridges and are not in a hurry, waiting avoids paying an uncertain resale premium for a discontinued or sold-out product. It also gives Retro Remake an opportunity to publish the details that determine whether the project fits your setup: physical media support, controller ports, output modes, region behavior, firmware policy, price, warranty and release schedule.
Best Value

Buy a Super Nt now if your collection is the priority
A verified Super Nt is the practical choice when your main requirement is inserting original cartridges today. Its documented ports and video modes let you plan the rest of the setup, and its known firmware page gives you a concrete software baseline. Set a maximum used price based on condition and included accessories rather than treating the old official list price as a guaranteed market value.
Do not buy based on teaser imagery alone
The regional design imagery and the phrase “all regions covered” respond to requests for regional variants. They do not confirm region-free game playback, cartridge compatibility or a launch plan. Treat the teaser as a signal to watch for announcements, not as a product specification or preorder opportunity.
What to verify if Retro Remake publishes full specifications
Once SSNT/SuperFPGA has an official product page, compare it against the Super Nt using the same questions rather than relying on marketing labels:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Media: Does it accept original SNES and Super Famicom cartridges, and is the supported library documented?
- Region handling: Are physical region differences supported in software, hardware or both?
- Video path: Which HDMI resolutions and refresh rates are available, and are scanlines, integer scaling or analog outputs included?
- Input hardware: Are standard SNES/Super Famicom controllers supported directly, and are adapters required?
- Latency evidence: Are there reproducible independent measurements rather than “zero lag” wording?
- Firmware: How are updates installed, what is the rollback process and how long is support expected?
- Ownership: What is the price, warranty region, return policy and replacement-parts plan?
- Availability: Is it a shippable retail product, a preorder with a stated window or only a development announcement?
Which buyer should choose which console?
Choose a Super Nt when
- You already own original SNES or Super Famicom cartridges.
- You want a documented HDMI console rather than an announced project.
- You need original-style controller ports and do not require output above 1080p.
- You can verify a used unit’s cartridge slot, controller inputs, HDMI output and return policy.
Wait for SSNT/SuperFPGA when
- You are willing to wait for a new product and do not need cartridge play immediately.
- You want to evaluate price, warranty and modern output options before buying.
- You would rather avoid the uncertainty of second-hand condition and discontinued inventory.
- You can monitor official announcements without assuming that SuperStation One specifications apply.
Consider neither yet when
- Your priority is a specific CRT or analog-video workflow that the Super Nt specification does not list and SSNT/SuperFPGA has not promised.
- You need a tested library guarantee or measured latency data that neither product’s available evidence provides.
- A used console is priced high enough that a future product announcement could materially change your decision.
Bottom line
The Analogue Super Nt is the only option here with published SNES/Super Famicom cartridge support, documented HDMI modes and an established setup. Its official stock situation means a used purchase requires careful testing, and the $199.99 listing is not a current resale guarantee. SSNT/SuperFPGA may become a meaningful alternative, but as of October 13, 2026 it remains a teaser with no confirmed retail specifications. Buy the Super Nt for verified cartridge play now; wait if you want a new console and can make your decision after Retro Remake publishes real hardware details.
