Verdict: Summerland Bank does not currently distribute CGU home and contents insurance, and the available information does not confirm that a product called “Home Contents Plus” is currently offered by Summerland. That makes a conventional product review or buying recommendation unreliable. The available CGU policy booklet does explain how some owner-installed fixtures in a strata unit may be treated as contents, but you should rely on that wording only if it matches your insurer, policy version, and schedule.
Is Summerland Bank Home Contents Plus currently available?
Summerland Bank’s current home and contents insurance page says the bank no longer distributes CGU home and contents, car, or landlord insurance products. It directs customers with existing CGU policies to CGU for assistance and claims. The page’s general insurance information or a “Get a Quote” control should not be treated as proof that a new Summerland policy can currently be purchased.
The exact product identity is also uncertain. A search result for the phrase “Home Contents Plus (strata owners) review” points to a CHOICE review attributed to The Mutual Bank, not Summerland Bank. The underlying CHOICE page could not be retrieved, so it does not establish that Summerland offered a policy under that name. Before relying on any review or quote, confirm the insurer, product name, active sales channel, and the date and version of the applicable Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
What the available CGU booklet says about strata contents
A policy booklet hosted by Summerland describes CGU Home Insurance, but the available information does not establish its exact version or whether it applies to a product called Home Contents Plus today. Treat it as an indication of how that wording addresses strata ownership—not as confirmed current cover. The booklet defines strata title as a title within a strata or similar community title scheme, where separate parts of the scheme buildings have separate legal titles. It notes that this commonly applies to apartments, townhouses, villas, and duplexes.

Owner-installed fixtures may overlap with body-corporate cover
Under the booklet’s contents definition, fixtures and fittings installed for the policyholder’s own use may be included when the policyholder is a tenant or owner of a strata-title unit, unless the body corporate or similar body has insured them. This creates a practical boundary question: an item attached to your unit might fall under your contents policy, the building’s body-corporate policy, or neither, depending on the wording and insurance already in place.
Compare the body-corporate policy and your individual policy, and ask both insurers to clarify any uncertain items. Check the policy schedule for the exact premises, insured property, cover selected, and limits; do not assume that a fixture is covered merely because it is inside your unit or that the body corporate has insured it.

Contents value and valuables limits
The booklet describes the contents sum insured as the replacement value nominated by the policyholder at today’s prices. It also refers to limits for valuables and particular item categories, with optional “Other Valuables” or “Special Valuables” cover able to increase specified limits. The available material does not establish current amounts for the product in the title. Check the applicable PDS and schedule for the valuation basis, category limits, any item-listing requirements, and whether optional cover is available.

The booklet says contents are covered at home and away from home in Australia. It describes away-from-home cover in Australia and New Zealand under Accidental Damage cover. It also sets a total limit of $2,000 for listed-event loss or damage to contents kept in the open air due to storm, flood, rainwater, wind, theft, or attempted theft, with stated exceptions for pools, saunas, spas, and their accessories. These details are booklet terms, not confirmed terms for a currently available Summerland product; verify them against the policy version and schedule that apply to you.

What to verify before buying or making a claim
- Confirm the policy identity: Ask who the insurer is, whether the policy is currently open to new customers, and which sales channel is authorized to offer it.
- Get the current documents: Obtain the PDS, policy schedule, and any applicable supplementary documents. Match the product name and version date across them.
- Check the strata boundary: Ask the body corporate or strata manager what its policy covers, then confirm with the individual insurer how owner-installed fixtures and fittings are treated.
- Review limits and exclusions: Check the contents sum insured, valuables and category limits, optional cover, excesses, listed events, accidental-damage terms, away-from-home territory, and exclusions.
- For an existing CGU policy: Follow Summerland’s direction to contact CGU for policy assistance and claims, using the contact information on Summerland’s current page.
Because current availability, premium, excess, and applicable policy wording for a Summerland product named Home Contents Plus are not established, there is no sound basis here for a price or value-for-money verdict. The useful review takeaway for a strata owner is to verify the policy itself and resolve fixture overlap with the body corporate before choosing cover.
