If your Galaxy A57 5G is stuck during the One UI 9 startup sequence, booting into Safe Mode can let the update finish past the reported XML or “Access Denied” failure. Hold Side + Volume Down for more than seven seconds to restart, enter Safe Mode from the power menu, complete the setup, then restart normally. This is a temporary workaround—not a confirmed permanent Samsung fix.
What is happening with the Galaxy A57 One UI 9 update?
The affected firmware
Samsung’s firmware record lists One UI 9 build A576BXXU6BZIE for the Galaxy A57 5G (model SM-A576B). The build is based on Android 17, was released on October 12, 2026, and carries the September 5, 2026 security patch.
Reported startup failure
On October 12, 2026, SamMobile reported that some A57 owners installing One UI 9.0 could not complete startup. Their phones reportedly stopped at an XML or “Access Denied” style error. A Samsung Community moderator said Samsung had received official information about the problem and was working on a solution.

Use Safe Mode to get past the boot screen
Safe Mode starts Android with core system software and disables third-party apps. Samsung describes it as a diagnostic mode for problems caused by installed applications. Follow these steps while the phone is connected to a reliable power source if its battery is low.
- Force a restart if the phone is frozen. Press and hold the Side and Volume Down buttons together for more than seven seconds. Release them when the phone restarts.
- Open the power menu during startup. When the Samsung logo appears, use the Side and Volume Down controls to reach the power menu.
- Enter Safe Mode. Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode option appears, then tap Safe mode.
- Wait for the phone to boot. The interface should indicate that Safe Mode is active, and third-party apps will be unavailable.
- Continue the One UI 9 sequence. Proceed through the setup or boot process while Safe Mode is active. The A57 reports describe this as bypassing the XML error.
- Restart normally. A regular restart exits Safe Mode and returns the phone to its normal app environment.
The workaround changes the startup environment; it does not repair or replace the One UI 9 firmware. If the phone reaches the home screen after the normal restart, back up important data while it is accessible.

What to do if the phone works in Safe Mode
Normal behavior in Safe Mode points to a possible conflict with an installed app. Samsung notes that if a problem stops in Safe Mode, an app bug may be responsible. Google’s Android guidance uses a one-at-a-time removal method:

- Uninstall the newest or most recently updated app.
- Restart the phone normally and test the boot process.
- If the failure returns, repeat with the next recent app until the conflict is identified.
Removing apps one by one is targeted and reversible: you can reinstall an app later if it is not the cause. Do not remove several apps at once if you need to identify which one triggered the failure.

If Safe Mode does not solve the startup block
If the same XML, “Access Denied,” freeze, or restart loop continues while Safe Mode is active, third-party apps are less likely to be the cause. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance says a hardware issue becomes more likely in that situation. Arrange Samsung service or an authorized repair inspection rather than repeatedly forcing restarts.
Check charging equipment before trying again
An empty battery or unstable charging can interrupt repeated boot attempts. Use a Samsung-certified charger and cable when charging is unreliable or the battery may be depleted. Remove damaged accessories and any cable or charger that is not genuine or is visibly worn. Let the phone charge sufficiently before repeating the Safe Mode procedure.

Factory reset is the last resort
A factory reset should come only after Safe Mode, app removal, charging checks, and service advice. Samsung warns that a reset deletes personal data, can require the Samsung-account credentials previously used on the phone, and leaves the device needing the complete setup process again. Back up photos, messages, authenticator data, and other files whenever the phone becomes usable. If the phone cannot boot far enough to back up, ask service staff about data-preservation options before authorizing a reset.
