Which Street Fighter game should you buy?
| Buyer priority | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cross-platform modern matchmaking | Street Fighter 6 | It is the current mainline release, has confirmed cross-play, and combines competitive modes with Battle Hub and World Tour. |
| Arcade history and preservation | Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection | It brings 12 arcade-era games from Street Fighter I, II, Alpha and III into one package. |
| Online play in the classic collection | The four supported titles in the collection | Online features are limited to Street Fighter II’ Champion Edition, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. |
These are different products rather than two editions of the same game. Street Fighter 6 is designed as a contemporary fighting game with an active online ecosystem and a single-player campaign. The 30th Anniversary Collection is a historical archive whose games retain their original-era mechanics and presentation, with online functions added to only four entries.

What is Street Fighter 6?
Street Fighter 6 is the current mainline Street Fighter game. Its original PlayStation, Xbox and PC release was June 2, 2023. Capcom released a Nintendo Switch 2 version on June 5, 2025. Capcom lists the game for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
#1 Best Overall
- Classic Experience Built for a Modern Era: With all core gameplay modes present, plus two brand new modes and enhanced visuals, Street Fighter 6 redefines the classic fighting game genre.
- Distinct Fighting Styles to Master: 18 diverse characters including legendary World Warriors and exciting brand new characters add their own flair to the game at launch, with more to be added post-launch.
- Brand New Game Modes: The Street Fighter franchise continues to hone its skills and redefine the fighting genre with the introduction of three new foundational modes – Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub.
- In-Game Commentating: Street Fighter’s first-ever Real-Time Commentary Feature, supported with subtitles in 13 languages, incorporates the voices of popular Fighting Game Community (FGC) commentators like Vicious and Aru directly into the game to narrate what is happening on-screen just like a real tournament.
- Two New Control Schemes: Classic Controls returns alongside two brand new options: Modern Controls allow you to perform special attacks with simple button combinations and are designed for players who want to fight without memorizing and practicing special move button combinations first. Dynamic Controls only require a press of the Auto-Attack button to perform attacks and is a great control type to use when you have friends and family over for a quick, casual game.
The game is split into distinct experiences so a newcomer does not have to begin with ranked competition. The principal online and social area is Battle Hub, where players meet, interact and enter matches. The main single-player component is World Tour: you create an avatar and travel through the Street Fighter universe while learning from the series’ characters. Traditional versus and training options sit alongside those larger modes.
Why Street Fighter 6 is the default recommendation
For most buyers, Street Fighter 6 is the safer choice because it is the actively supported, multiplatform entry rather than a fixed historical snapshot. It offers a path from learning controls in single-player content to playing people on other systems. If your priority is simply “the Street Fighter game most people currently mean,” this is the relevant purchase.
Capcom reported more than 5 million Street Fighter 6 units sold worldwide by June 2025 and more than 7 million by June 2026. Those are publisher-reported cumulative sales figures, not a measurement of current daily players, regional population or queue times.

Street Fighter 6 editions: what to check before buying
Edition names and bundles change by country and storefront. Official material does not provide one stable, region-neutral SKU table, so a label such as Deluxe, Ultimate or a character-pass bundle should not be assumed to contain the same downloadable content everywhere.
Before paying, open the live listing for your platform and verify:
- Whether the product is the base game or a bundle that includes character passes.
- Which platform version you are purchasing; console licenses generally do not become PC licenses.
- The territory, currency and account region attached to the listing.
- Whether the store is selling a digital copy, a physical copy or an upgrade entitlement.
- Any dates or descriptions attached to included additional characters, costumes or other downloadable content.
Use the exact contents shown on the current retailer page as the authority for a bundle. Do not choose an edition solely because its name appeared in an older guide or because another region uses the same name differently.

Street Fighter 6 platforms and cross-play
Supported platforms
| Game | Platforms stated by Capcom | Release timing |
|---|---|---|
| Street Fighter 6 | PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC | June 2, 2023 on the original console/PC platforms; June 5, 2025 on Nintendo Switch 2 |
| Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection | PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC | Collection release; no Switch 2-specific edition is identified in the cited platform list |
How cross-play works
Yes. Street Fighter 6 supports cross-play. Capcom states that the Nintendo Switch 2 version “also supports cross-play, enabling users to enjoy the game together across different platforms.” In practical terms, players on the supported console and PC versions can play together rather than being confined to one hardware network.
Cross-play is a feature of Street Fighter 6, not a property shared automatically by every Street Fighter release. The 30th Anniversary Collection has its own, narrower online implementation, and you should not infer that its 12 games share the same cross-platform matchmaking system.
Cross-play also does not mean cross-progression. The cited Capcom information confirms people on different platforms can play together; it does not establish that your save, purchased downloadable content, rankings or World Tour progress transfer between platform accounts. Treat those as separate unless the store and account documentation for your specific version says otherwise.
Street Fighter 6 online and offline modes
Battle Hub
Battle Hub is the game’s social online space. It gives players a place to meet and interact before entering matches, making it different from a menu that sends you directly into a fight. It is the clearest reason to buy Street Fighter 6 if you want an online community layer around the matches themselves.
World Tour
World Tour is an avatar-led campaign. You make a custom avatar and travel through the Street Fighter universe, turning the game’s setting and characters into a guided single-player experience. It is useful for players who want context, exploration and a longer progression path instead of immediately choosing a competitive mode.

Street Fighter 6 also includes the expected fighting-game activities, such as direct versus matches and training. The exact matchmaking rules, ranking changes and available events can evolve through updates, so an older description of a particular queue should not be treated as a permanent feature list. The durable distinction is that Street Fighter 6 combines current online competition with Battle Hub and a substantial offline campaign.

What is in Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection?
The 30th Anniversary Collection contains 12 arcade-era games spanning the original Street Fighter, Street Fighter II, Street Fighter Alpha and Street Fighter III families. The package is intended for people who want to compare the series’ historical versions, learn how its systems developed or revisit the arcade releases without buying each game separately.
| Series period | Games included | What that means for a buyer |
|---|---|---|
| Street Fighter I | Street Fighter | The starting point of the arcade series and its earliest design. |
| Street Fighter II | Street Fighter II, Street Fighter II’ Champion Edition, Street Fighter II’ Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter II Turbo | Multiple revisions let you see how the landmark sequel changed across arcade updates. |
| Street Fighter Alpha | Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3 | The Alpha line’s distinct mechanics and roster progression are represented. |
| Street Fighter III | Street Fighter III, Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike | The complete three-game Street Fighter III progression is included. |
The collection’s value is breadth and preservation, not modern convenience. Each title reflects a particular arcade revision, so balance, characters, timing and special-move behavior can differ substantially between versions. Someone buying it for one favorite game should check that exact title is present rather than assuming a generic “Street Fighter II” listing covers every revision.
Which 30th Anniversary Collection games can be played online?
Only four of the 12 games support online play:
- Street Fighter II’ Champion Edition
- Super Street Fighter II Turbo
- Street Fighter Alpha 3
- Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
The other eight games remain local or offline experiences in the collection. Buying the compilation does not give every included title an online lobby or network matchmaking.

Online features and latency tools
Capcom says the collection uses “rewind” technology for its online matches. Rewind netcode is intended to keep controls responsive by correcting the display when the connection briefly diverges, rather than waiting for every input to arrive before updating the action. Results depend on the connection between players; the feature is an implementation goal, not a guarantee of perfect matches on every network.
The collection also lets players adjust input latency in the in-game menu. That setting is a trade-off: adding delay can make the local presentation more uniform on some connections, while lower delay can feel more immediate when conditions are good. Change it when troubleshooting inconsistent online response, then test the same title again rather than changing several options at once.
PlayStation online requirement
Sony’s description of the PlayStation 4 version identifies online Arcade Mode and an online lobby for the four supported games and states that a PlayStation Plus subscription is required for PS4 online play. That requirement applies to the PlayStation network version; the collection’s availability on other platforms does not make this a universal subscription rule for every storefront.

Choosing between Street Fighter 6 and the 30th Anniversary Collection
Choose Street Fighter 6 when you want current multiplayer
- You want to fight people on other platforms through confirmed cross-play.
- You prefer a current game with Battle Hub’s social space.
- You want World Tour’s avatar campaign as an offline starting point.
- You are learning the series and want one modern ruleset rather than a dozen historical revisions.
Choose the 30th Anniversary Collection when you want the archive
- You care about arcade history, original revisions and the evolution from Street Fighter I through III.
- You want 12 games in one purchase, including all three Street Fighter III entries.
- You specifically want online matches in one or more of the four supported classic titles.
- You are comfortable with older mechanics and with online play being limited to selected games.
Buy both when your goals are different
The two products complement one another. Street Fighter 6 supplies the modern cross-platform game, while the collection provides historical context and versions that are not included in Street Fighter 6. There is no need to treat the collection as an upgrade to Street Fighter 6 or Street Fighter 6 as a replacement for the archive; they answer different buying questions.

Assuming all 12 classic games are online
Check the four-title online list before buying. The collection’s headline count describes its total games, not its online-capable games.
Assuming every edition includes the same DLC
Edition labels vary by territory and storefront. Read the live contents panel for your account region and platform instead of relying on a global edition name.
Confusing platform availability with cross-play
A game being released on several systems does not by itself prove that those systems share matchmaking. Street Fighter 6 has Capcom’s explicit cross-play statement; use that confirmation rather than assuming the same for the collection.
Expecting current player-count or queue guarantees
Official sales totals show how many units have been sold over time, not how many people are online in your region at a particular hour. No reliable current queue-time or regional population figure is established here, so choose a game for its features rather than an assumed matchmaking number.
How large is the Street Fighter series?
Capcom reported more than 59 million cumulative Street Fighter series units sold as of March 31, 2026. That total covers the franchise rather than one edition and is a lifetime figure through that date. It provides context for the series’ reach, but it does not indicate the number of active players in Street Fighter 6 or in any one classic collection title.
Quick Recap
Bottom line for each type of player
- New player seeking one purchase: Street Fighter 6 is the straightforward starting point because it combines a campaign, social online space and confirmed cross-play.
- Competitive player choosing among platforms: Select the Street Fighter 6 version available on your preferred system, then verify the live edition contents before checkout.
- Historian, collector or arcade fan: The 30th Anniversary Collection is the relevant package, with 12 games across four major eras.
- Classic online player: Confirm that your chosen match is one of the four network-enabled games, and remember the PlayStation 4 version requires PlayStation Plus for online play.
