For U.S. viewers, the right streaming service depends first on whether you want an on-demand library or live television. This guide compares major services and the price references available as of October 11, 2026; it is not a literally exhaustive directory, and several providers’ current tier prices were not established in the cited sources. Treat prices as dated reference points and confirm the plan and checkout amount before subscribing.
Streaming services at a glance: U.S. price references for 2026
The table separates on-demand subscriptions from live-TV packages. Prices are not directly comparable when the plan, ads, billing period, or included services differ.
| Service | Plan or price reference | What the source establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Netflix | Current price not stated | Tom’s Guide’s 2026 cost snapshot did not establish a tier-by-tier price in the cited material. |
| Hulu | Current tier prices not stated here | Hulu’s Help Center, dated September 30, 2026, describes standalone, live-TV, and bundle categories. Its listed new-subscription prices are dated September 23, 2026; consult the current plan page for the exact tier. |
| Disney+ | Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN bundle: $21.99/month for Bundle Basic; $32.99/month for Bundle Premium | Disney+ Help Center prices for new subscriptions effective September 23, 2026. Third-party billing may differ. |
| HBO Max | $10.99/month with ads; $18.49/month ad-free; $22.99/month Premium | Tom’s Guide’s 2026 editorial price snapshot; verify current plan details and checkout price with the provider. |
| Prime Video | $8.99/month standalone; $3/month additional ad-free upgrade | Tom’s Guide’s 2026 editorial price snapshot. It also reported Prime membership at $14.99/month or $139/year; membership and standalone Prime Video are different purchase options. |
| Peacock | Select: $7.99/month; Premium: $10.99/month; Premium Plus: $16.99/month | Tom’s Guide’s 2026 editorial price snapshot. A separate Peacock Help Center notice says the Apple TV + Peacock bundle costs $17.99/month with Premium or $22.99/month with Premium Plus, effective September 1, 2026. |
| Paramount+ | Essential: $8.99/month; Premium: $13.99/month | Tom’s Guide’s 2026 editorial price snapshot; confirm current rates and tier terms with the provider. |
| Apple TV | $14.99/month after a seven-day trial | Apple’s official U.S. product page, accessed October 8, 2026. Apple says the subscription includes Apple Originals and specified sports programming. |
| Sling TV | Current price not stated | The cited material identifies it as a live-TV alternative but does not establish a current plan price. |
| YouTube TV | $82.99/month for one membership with up to six household accounts | YouTube TV’s official plans page, accessed October 8, 2026. The page also displayed introductory offers for selected packages; eligibility and expiration should be checked before relying on one. |
Except where an official provider source is identified above, the figures are editorially reported snapshots, not a complete official price audit. The sources do not establish every service’s annual billing, stream or download limits, video quality, or ad experience for each tier, so those details are intentionally not inferred.
Which streaming services fit different needs?
For on-demand shows and films
Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max, Prime Video, Peacock, Paramount+, and Apple TV are on-demand options, but their catalogs and plan structures differ. Choose based on the shows, films, and franchises you actually want to watch rather than assuming the cheapest entry price gives the best value. The available comparison material emphasizes content selection, features, and usability, but does not support a current, title-by-title catalog ranking.

For live television and a cable alternative
YouTube TV is a channel-based live-TV service rather than a conventional on-demand-only subscription. Its official plans page listed 100+ channels and a regular main-plan price of $82.99 per month for one membership with up to six household accounts when accessed October 8, 2026. Hulu also offers a live-TV plan category. Sling TV is another live-TV alternative in the reviewed comparison, but no current Sling price is established here. Compare these plans by the channels and local coverage you need, not just by headline price.
For Apple Originals and specified sports programming
Apple TV costs $14.99 per month after a seven-day trial according to Apple’s official U.S. product page accessed October 8, 2026. Apple describes its subscription as including Apple Originals and specified sports programming. The subscription does not include third-party subscriptions or rental and purchase content available in the Apple TV app, so app access should not be confused with a subscription to every service or title surfaced there.

When is a streaming bundle worth it?
A bundle is worthwhile only if you value the services included and the total is lower than the standalone plans you would otherwise buy at equivalent tiers and billing periods. The available prices are not all a like-for-like comparison: the Disney bundle combines Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN, while the Apple TV + Peacock offer combines two services with a choice of Peacock tier.
- Disney+ Help Center lists Bundle Basic at $21.99 per month and Bundle Premium at $32.99 per month for new subscriptions effective September 23, 2026.
- Peacock Help Center lists the Apple TV + Peacock bundle at $17.99 per month with Premium or $22.99 per month with Premium Plus, effective September 1, 2026.
- Hulu’s Help Center identifies multiple bundle categories involving Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, and HBO Max; the exact current tier price should be checked on its plan page.
Disney says prices can vary when a subscription is billed through a third party. It also says existing Disney+ subscribers who signed up before September 23, 2026, may see price changes on or after October 21, 2026. Check the account’s actual billing channel and renewal date rather than assuming a newly advertised price applies immediately.

How to choose a plan without overpaying
- Decide whether you need live TV. If you mainly watch series and films on demand, start with an on-demand plan. If you need channel-based live programming, compare live-TV packages separately; their channel lineups and costs serve a different purpose.
- Pick the content you will use. List the specific originals, franchises, current shows, films, sports, or channels that matter. Avoid paying for a bundle just because it contains more services.
- Compare equivalent tiers. Check whether the price includes ads, and verify any differences in streams, downloads, or video quality on the provider’s current plan page. Those limits are not consistently established in the price references above.
- Compare the same billing period. A monthly price and an annual membership price are not equivalent. Include any separate ad-free upgrade, bundle terms, trial end date, or introductory offer in the total you expect to pay.
- Check the final checkout price and renewal terms. Promotional offers may be temporary or restricted to eligible customers. Billing through an app store, TV provider, or another partner may produce a different price.
- Confirm device compatibility before buying hardware. A supported smart TV, phone, computer, or streaming device may already run the app. A separate streaming stick is optional if your existing equipment is compatible.
What does streaming cost across multiple subscriptions?
Monthly subscriptions can add up quickly, especially when households combine on-demand services with live TV. A December 2025 snapshot from the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation cited consumer reports indicating Americans spent an average of $69 per month on streaming services in 2025. That is historical context attributed to the reports cited by the committee, not a committee survey or a 2026 average.
To estimate your own spend, add only the plans you expect to keep active at the same time, including any recurring ad-free upgrades. Recheck the total when a trial ends, a promotion expires, or a provider changes a tier price.
