To stream a Meta AI glasses camera in Flutter, use Meta’s Wearables Device Access Toolkit (DAT) through its native iOS or Android SDK and a third-party Flutter bridge. Meta does not publish an official Flutter SDK. The bridge’s compatibility, rendering method, and performance are separate from the capabilities Meta documents, so verify the native SDK version and measure the stream on your target phone and glasses before relying on it.
What you need to know before building
Meta says DAT connects iOS and Android mobile apps to supported AI glasses and includes video streaming and photo capture. Meta’s capability summaries also mention features such as speech or audio, display, motion, gestures, microphone, and IMU; availability varies by device, and those summaries do not specify a universal camera resolution, frame rate, latency, codec, or stream duration.
Meta lists Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 and Gen 2, Ray-Ban Meta Display, Oakley Meta HSTN, and Oakley Meta Vanguard as supported devices. Do not assume that every model exposes the same capabilities. The Meta Wearables FAQ and Device Access Toolkit overview are the official places to check current model support, minimum operating-system requirements, regional eligibility, and setup requirements before choosing hardware.
Meta’s FAQ describes DAT 1.0 as a stable, supported release whose rollout begins September 30, 2026. As of October 11, 2026, confirm the current rollout and distribution rules in Meta’s documentation rather than assuming every developer account or package already has access to the same release.

Which Flutter bridge should you evaluate?
Flutter needs a bridge to call the native toolkit. The packages below are community options, not Meta products; their documentation describes package behavior, not guarantees from Meta.

For either bridge, compare release activity, exact native SDK version, Android/iOS parity, supported models and capabilities, rendering strategy, access to individual frames, registration and permission handling, lifecycle behavior, sample quality, issue response, and explicit DAT 1.0 compatibility. If any of these are unclear, inspect the package source and native dependencies before committing to it.

How to build the integration

Confirm access and compatibility
Check Meta’s live documentation for supported glasses, supported-country access, minimum iOS and Android versions, and the current DAT release. Confirm that the bridge’s native SDK dependency matches the toolkit version available to your developer account. Meta says SDK downloads may be broadly available while full capabilities and developer-center access are limited to supported AI-glasses countries.

Configure the Flutter and native projects
Add the chosen package and follow its current setup guide alongside Meta’s iOS or Android documentation. Complete the platform-specific registration, deep-link handling, and required permission configuration. Do not copy old manifest or project-file snippets without checking that they match the current package release and native SDK.

Register the phone and glasses
Enable Developer Mode and complete Meta’s registration flow for the phone and glasses as directed by the current platform documentation. Keep this registration step distinct from camera permission: successful registration does not by itself mean the user has granted access to the camera.

Request access and start the preview
Request camera access through the bridge, handle denial explicitly, and provide a recovery path for a disconnected device. Start streaming only after the device is available and permission is granted. Render the stream using the surface the package actually documents—for example, a Flutter texture if that bridge supports one. Do not assume that the package exposes raw frames or uses a particular transport or codec.

Exercise lifecycle and reconnect paths
Test what happens when the app backgrounds or resumes, the phone or glasses disconnect, permission changes, or the stream stops unexpectedly. Use the Mock Device Kit for supported simulations of device state, permissions, and media streaming. Meta says the mock kit currently does not support display glasses; use compatible physical hardware for on-device validation and full integration testing.

How to optimize and measure the stream
Optimization should start with measurements on the target phone and glasses, not an assumed specification. Meta’s official materials reviewed for this guide do not establish a universal frame rate, resolution, latency, codec, or stream-duration figure. A package’s implementation or a result on one phone does not make those values general DAT guarantees.

- Measure preview responsiveness: record the time from starting a stream to a visible preview, and observe stalls or interruptions during sustained use. Keep the phone model, operating-system version, glasses model, bridge release, and test conditions with the result.
- Measure resource use: monitor phone CPU, memory, and battery while the preview is active, and compare results across the app’s actual display and lifecycle states. Treat measurements as device- and workload-specific.
- Keep the rendering path explicit: follow the bridge’s documented rendering mechanism. If it provides a texture, use that path as documented; do not add frame-by-frame conversion or copying unless the feature requires it and measurements justify it.
- Separate toolkit behavior from bridge behavior: reproduce a problem with the package’s native sample or Meta’s native workflow where practical. Meta’s iOS CameraAccess sample demonstrates native device connection, live camera video, photo capture, registration, permissions, and media streaming, but it does not establish a Flutter API, rendering implementation, or package performance.
- Test failure and recovery: include permission denial, lost connection, reconnect, app resume, and prolonged preview in the test plan. A preview that works immediately after launch is not enough to establish reliable streaming.
When can you develop without the glasses?
Meta’s FAQ says, “You can start development using the SDK with simulated devices via Mock Device Kit, allowing testing without hardware.” The mock kit can help exercise supported device states, permissions, and media streaming. It is not a substitute for validating the complete integration on compatible hardware, and it currently does not support display glasses.
Meta’s iOS CameraAccess sample is useful for understanding the native camera-access flow, but it is an iOS sample rather than a Flutter reference implementation. It cannot confirm that a particular Dart package is current or that its preview performs well on a given phone.
