Stray is an easy-to-moderate platinum. Guide estimates range from 3.5/10 to 6/10, and a realistic completion window is 6–12 hours. The safest plan is two playthroughs: use the first to explore and collect memories, badges, music sheets, and miscellaneous trophies, then complete a practiced route in under two hours for I am Speed. Chapter select makes most cleanup straightforward after the story.

One playthrough is technically possible, but it requires a highly practiced route and leaves little time for searching. For a first attempt, separating exploration from the speedrun is less stressful and usually more reliable.

How difficult is the Stray platinum?

Stray has no selectable difficulty setting, so no trophy depends on playing on a hard mode or meeting a combat difficulty requirement. The challenge comes mainly from navigation, collectible searching, a few situational actions, and one timed completion trophy.

Source Difficulty estimate Time estimate What the estimate represents
PowerPyx (2022) 3.5/10 6–8 hours A relatively short completion with an efficient route.
PlayStationTrophies.org 6/10 10–12 hours A more cautious estimate that allows for searching and replay.
XboxAchievements 6/10 10–12 hours An independent estimate for the Xbox achievement set.

These are guide-author estimates, not developer benchmarks. The spread is normal: a player who knows the chapter layouts and follows a collectible route can finish near the lower end, while a first-time player who explores naturally, misses items, and replays chapters will more likely need the upper end.

Stray
  • Untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten cybercity in Stray
  • Physical edition comes with 6 Full-Colour Art Cards
  • Don't miss out on this one-of -a-kind third-person cat adventure game developed by BlueTwelve Studio for PlayStation 5
  • Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the international version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.

What makes the game easy

  • There is no difficulty selection to increase enemy damage, reduce resources, or add a trophy-specific challenge.
  • The story is compact, and most objectives are found by following the current chapter’s environment and characters.
  • Most collectible and miscellaneous trophies can be recovered with chapter replay.
  • The game does not require a flawless combat performance for the platinum.

What can still cause trouble

  • Several collectibles are placed away from the main route, so rushing through the story can leave gaps.
  • Some miscellaneous trophies depend on performing a particular interaction in the correct location.
  • I am Speed requires finishing the entire game in under two hours, making route knowledge more important than mechanical difficulty.

For most players, the platinum is best described as easy if guided and moderate if attempted blind. The 3.5/10 and 6/10 ratings are not contradictory; they reflect different assumptions about preparation, searching, and cleanup.

How long does it take to platinum Stray?

Budget 6–12 hours overall. PowerPyx gives a 6–8-hour estimate, while PlayStationTrophies.org and XboxAchievements each give 10–12 hours. A first-time player who wants a thorough, low-risk completion should plan around 10–12 hours rather than expecting the shortest published estimate.

Where the time goes

Activity Time impact Why it varies
First story run Several hours Exploration, puzzles, dialogue, and learning the routes are all slower on a first visit.
Collectibles Low to substantial Searching for memories, badges, and music sheets is quick with a guide but much slower blind.
Miscellaneous trophies Usually limited Some actions are easy to trigger when you know the location; repeating a chapter adds time if you miss one.
Speedrun attempt Up to two hours per serious run Most players need practice attempts before a reliable under-two-hour completion.
Cleanup Variable Chapter select keeps this short when you record what was missed; otherwise, repeated searching can add several hours.

The lower estimate assumes a practiced route, efficient collectible planning, and little backtracking. The higher estimate is safer for a player seeing each chapter for the first time or using chapter select to repair several omissions.

How to set a realistic personal budget

  • Experienced route planner: six to eight hours may be achievable if the first run is organized and the speedrun route is already familiar.
  • First-time thorough player: reserve 10–12 hours, including a normal exploration run, a speedrun attempt, and cleanup.
  • Blind collector: allow extra time beyond the published ranges because searching every area without a checklist is the largest source of delay.

Are any Stray trophies missable?

I am Speed is the key missable risk. PowerPyx lists one missable trophy and describes it as requiring the game to be beaten in under two hours: “Number of missable trophies: 1 – I am Speed (must beat game in 2 hours, if you take longer the speedrun trophy will be missed).” If the run exceeds the limit, finishing the story normally does not turn that attempt into a speedrun completion.

Other guides list zero missables. PlayStationTrophies.org and XboxAchievements use a broader definition: a trophy is treated as non-missable when chapter replay can recover it after the story. Both descriptions can be accurate, but they answer different questions. In the permanent-failure sense, I am Speed is the only serious risk. In the practical “can I clean it up later?” sense, the rest of the set is recoverable through chapter select.

Missable versus recoverable

Situation Can chapter select help? Planning advice
You finish a normal story run over two hours. Not for that run’s speedrun result. Start a dedicated, practiced run for I am Speed.
You miss a memory, badge, or music sheet. Yes, according to the cleanup plans used by the major trophy and achievement guides. Record the chapter and return after the story.
You overlook a miscellaneous interaction. Generally yes, if the interaction is available in the relevant chapter. Replay the chapter and perform the action deliberately.

Do you need two playthroughs?

No, but two runs are the recommended first-platinum plan. PowerPyx states that one minimum playthrough is possible, while still recommending two for a first attempt. A split plan prevents the speedrun timer from competing with collectible searches and experimentation.

Run one: exploration and collectibles

  1. Play the story at a normal pace and learn how each chapter connects its objectives.
  2. Collect memories, badges, and music sheets when convenient. If a collectible is out of the way, note its chapter and location rather than spending excessive time during a blind run.
  3. Perform miscellaneous trophy actions as you encounter their locations, but do not jeopardize progress by repeatedly searching an area with no checklist.
  4. Write down anything uncertain before leaving a chapter. A simple list of chapter names and missing objectives is enough for later cleanup.
  5. Finish the story so that chapter select is available for targeted replay.

Run two: the under-two-hour speedrun

  1. Start a fresh run with a route you have already practiced. The goal is completion, not exploration.
  2. Skip optional detours, collectible searches, and unneeded interactions. Follow only the actions required to advance.
  3. Use your first run to anticipate puzzles, chase sequences, navigation turns, and loading transitions. Familiarity removes the pauses that consume the timer.
  4. Keep a margin under two hours rather than aiming to finish at exactly the limit. Small navigation mistakes or delays can erase a narrow buffer.
  5. After the final completion condition is met, verify that I am Speed has unlocked before treating the run as successful.

Run three only when cleanup requires it

Most players will not need a complete third story run. Use chapter select for individual missed items or actions. A full additional run is sensible only if your notes are incomplete or several objectives were missed across many chapters.

Can one playthrough earn every trophy?

Yes, in principle. An experienced player can combine the collectibles, miscellaneous actions, and speedrun requirements in one carefully planned route. That approach is efficient only when the route is already known and the player can make every required detour without losing the two-hour limit.

Player profile Best approach Main trade-off
First-time player Two runs, then chapter-select cleanup. More total play time, but the lowest stress and lowest risk.
Experienced player familiar with every chapter One combined run is possible. Less repetition, but one missed collectible or slow detour can force another run.
Speedrun-focused player Separate collectible planning from the timed route. Protects the timer and makes practice easier to evaluate.

Do not choose the one-run strategy merely to avoid replaying chapters. A failed combined attempt can cost more time than a planned second run, especially if the failure occurs near the end of the speedrun.

How chapter select helps with cleanup

After completing the story, use the game’s chapter-select option to return to the chapter associated with a missing trophy or collectible. The exact menu wording can vary by platform and version, but the process is the same: identify the chapter, replay it, perform the missing action or collect the item, and continue until the trophy registers.

  1. Finish the story before beginning broad cleanup, unless you already know exactly which chapter contains the missing objective.
  2. Consult your notes and choose the relevant chapter from chapter select.
  3. Complete the collectible pickup or miscellaneous action in that chapter. Do not assume that merely entering the area is enough; perform the required interaction.
  4. Allow the game to register the result, then check the platform’s trophy or achievement notification.
  5. Return to chapter select for the next missing item instead of replaying the entire campaign.

Chapter select is most useful when your notes distinguish collectible types and chapter locations. “Missing something in the middle” is less helpful than “one music sheet in chapter X” or “miscellaneous action not completed in chapter Y.”

What should you track during the first run?

Memories

Memories are collectible objectives tied to specific environments. Mark each chapter as soon as you find one. If you leave a chapter unsure whether every memory was collected, record that uncertainty immediately; relying on memory after finishing several later chapters makes cleanup slower.

Badges

Badges are another collectible category. Treat them separately from memories because finding every memory does not confirm that every badge has been collected. Keep a checklist with one line per chapter and a separate column for each collectible type.

Music sheets

Music sheets are placed around the story areas and are easy to overlook when following the main objective. Search them during the exploration run, not during the timed attempt. If one is missing, chapter-select cleanup is preferable to slowing the speedrun route.

Miscellaneous actions

These trophies usually require an intentional interaction, a particular environmental action, or a behavior that is not necessary for story completion. When a guide identifies an action, perform it immediately if it does not disrupt your route; otherwise, note the chapter and return later.

How to prepare for I am Speed

The speedrun is a route-planning challenge, not a selectable difficulty mode. The under-two-hour requirement applies to completing the game, so the safest preparation is repetition: learn the required path first, then make the timed attempt once unnecessary movement has been removed.

  • Use the normal run to learn objective order and chapter transitions.
  • Practice sections that caused hesitation, especially navigation-heavy sequences.
  • Do not stop to search for collectibles during the timed attempt.
  • Keep a time buffer; a run that finishes just below two hours is vulnerable to small delays.
  • If the route is clearly too slow, restart with the lesson recorded rather than continuing a run that cannot meet the limit.

The trophy’s requirement is specific: finish in under two hours. It is not enough to move quickly through individual chapters or to complete the story quickly across separate chapter-select sessions.

Does the plan differ between PlayStation and Xbox?

The terminology changes—PlayStation awards trophies, while Xbox awards achievements—but the planning issues are the same. PlayStationTrophies.org estimates 6/10 difficulty and 10–12 hours for the trophy list; XboxAchievements independently gives the same 6/10 and 10–12-hour range for 1000G. PowerPyx’s 3.5/10 and 6–8-hour figures provide a lower estimate based on a more efficient completion model.

When comparing guides, check four details: the rating scale, whether the time assumes a first run or a practiced route, how the author defines “missable,” and whether the guide separates exploration from the speedrun. Those distinctions explain most apparent differences between completion estimates.

What if a cleanup trophy does not unlock?

  • Confirm that you performed the complete interaction, not merely entered the location.
  • Replay the chapter from its beginning and repeat the objective without skipping the relevant sequence.
  • Check that you are working on the correct chapter and collectible category; memories, badges, and music sheets are tracked separately.
  • After the action, wait for the trophy or achievement notification before leaving the chapter.
  • If the problem persists, make a fresh chapter-select attempt rather than assuming the original incomplete action was recorded.

For I am Speed, a normal replay over two hours will not repair the failed attempt. Return to a fresh, practiced route and target the under-two-hour completion again.
