To block a caller on a Samsung Galaxy, open the Phone app, tap More options (the three vertical dots), then Settings and Block numbers. Add a number yourself or choose one from Recents or Contacts. For broader filtering, look for Block calls from unknown numbers or turn on Caller ID and spam protection if your phone and carrier offer them.

Block one number on your Galaxy

Use this option when you know which number you want to stop. Samsung’s documented route is Phone > More options > Settings > Block numbers. From there, enter a number or select one from Recents, Messages, or Contacts if those choices appear on your phone. Samsung notes that screens and settings may vary by wireless provider and software version, so labels can differ between Galaxy models and One UI releases. Samsung’s call-settings guide describes the current path.

Block a number from recent calls

You can also block a caller directly from the call log: open Phone > Recents, tap the number or its information/details control, then choose Block. To undo or review blocks later, return to Phone > More options > Settings > Block numbers. Exact controls can vary by software version. Samsung’s Smart Call support page covers blocking and managing numbers.

Choose whether to block unknown callers

The Block calls from unknown numbers control, when available, is broader than blocking a specific number. It is intended for callers identified as unknown or unspecified; it does not mean that every caller who is not in your contacts will necessarily be treated identically on every device or carrier.

Use caller ID and spam protection carefully

Some Galaxy phones offer Caller ID and spam protection in Phone settings. Samsung’s Smart Call can identify callers not saved in your contacts and may let you block or report suspected spam. Availability depends on the model and carrier; the option may not appear on your phone. A spam or scam label is not the same as blocking: a call can be labeled and still ring through. The Samsung Smart Call page describes the feature, and its support guide explains the related controls.

Pick the filtering level your phone offers

If your device displays a Block spam and scam calls setting, it may let you block all identified spam and scam calls or only calls marked high risk. The all-calls setting is more aggressive; the high-risk option is narrower. These controls are not available on every Galaxy phone, and automated identification can be wrong. Review the on-screen description before enabling either choice.

Check eligibility before looking for AI Scam detection

Samsung says AI Scam detection requires a Galaxy device running Android 16 with One UI 8.5 or higher. On an eligible phone, an alert about a potential scam lets you choose whether to block or answer. This feature is not a general setting available on all Galaxy models. See Samsung’s AI Scam detection guide for its stated requirements.

What to do if calls still get through

  • Confirm the number is blocked. Open Phone > More options > Settings > Block numbers and check the list. If the caller uses a different number, block that number too.
  • Check whether you have labeling or blocking enabled. A “spam” or “scam likely” label may warn you without stopping the call. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) explains the difference in its guide to blocking unwanted calls.
  • Ask your carrier about its current call-filtering service. Options, eligibility, and activation steps depend on the carrier. For example, T-Mobile’s support page describes its Scam ID and Scam Block services; these are carrier options, not Samsung settings available to everyone.
  • Report unwanted calls or fraud appropriately. In the United States, the FTC directs consumers to DoNotCall.gov to report unwanted calls and ReportFraud.ftc.gov if they lost money to a scam. Reporting does not itself block future calls.

Protect yourself from caller-ID deception

Do not rely on the displayed caller ID to confirm who is calling. If someone claims to represent your bank, a government agency, or another organization and asks you to act, end the call and contact the organization using a number from a trusted source, such as its official website or a statement you already have. Call filters can reduce interruptions, but they cannot establish that a caller is legitimate.
