If Siri’s response is being interrupted by nearby speech, check Settings > Accessibility > Siri for Require “Siri” for Interruptions and turn it on. Apple says this makes Siri require its wake phrase before someone can interrupt it. The setting may not appear on some iPhone models that support Apple Intelligence, so it is not available on every device.
Choose the fix that matches what Siri is doing
- Someone’s speech interrupts Siri while it is answering: Look for Require “Siri” for Interruptions in Accessibility settings. It is the targeted control for this behavior.
- Siri starts listening when you did not mean to activate it: Turn off voice activation, or place the iPhone face down as a situational workaround.
- You hear calls or notifications announced through headphones: Change the separate Announce Calls or Announce Notifications settings. Those announcements are not Siri being interrupted during a response.
Require the wake phrase to interrupt Siri
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility, then Siri.
- Turn on Require “Siri” for Interruptions, if it appears.
Apple describes the control as requiring “Siri” or “Hey Siri” to interrupt Siri. See Apple’s guide to changing Siri accessibility settings.
If the option is missing, Apple says it may not be shown on some iPhone models that support Apple Intelligence. Apple’s documentation does not establish a complete compatibility list by iPhone model, iOS release, and region, so the absence of the switch does not by itself identify a specific cause.
Turn off voice activation if Siri wakes unintentionally
This is a broader change than the interruption control: Siri will no longer respond to the wake phrase. Depending on your software version, go to Settings > Siri or Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, tap Talk to Siri or Talk & Type to Siri, and choose Off. Labels and paths vary by software version. Apple documents the activation options in its guide to turning on and activating Siri on iPhone.

If you only need a temporary workaround, Apple says placing the iPhone face down prevents it from responding to “Siri” or “Hey Siri.”
Change announcements through headphones separately
If the interruptions you mean are spoken calls or notifications heard through supported headphones, open Siri settings and adjust Announce Calls or Announce Notifications. Where available, choose Headphones Only to limit when those announcements play. Apple explains these options in its guide to announcing calls, messages, and more with Siri.

What to try if the setting names differ
- Look for either Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri in Settings.
- For voice activation, look for Talk to Siri or Talk & Type to Siri.
- For interruptions during a response, check Settings > Accessibility > Siri for the dedicated interruption control.
