Where does the interruption appear? A pop-up inside a webpage, a website notification, and an ad over your Home screen or another app have different causes—and need different fixes. Start by matching what you see to the steps below.
First, identify what is popping up

Samsung distinguishes browser pop-ups from ads that appear outside the browser, and says recently installed third-party apps are a common source of the latter. That does not prove an app is responsible in every case; use the location of the interruption to choose a diagnostic path. Samsung support
How do I block pop-ups in Samsung Internet?
- Open Samsung Internet.
- Tap the three-line Menu.
- Tap Settings, then Privacy dashboard.
- Turn on Block pop-ups.
This setting targets pop-ups while browsing. If the menu labels differ on your phone, search Settings for “pop-ups” or check Samsung support for your region and software version.

When the built-in setting is not enough
You can try a compatible content blocker from Menu > Ad blockers in Samsung Internet. Samsung says an installed blocker is turned on automatically, and its switch can enable or disable it. Some options may cost money. A browser ad blocker is an optional control for browsing; it is not a fix for ads displayed over other apps or on the Home screen.

How do I turn off a website’s notifications?
A recurring alert from a site is different from a new browser window. Samsung’s Hong Kong instructions provide two ways to disable the site’s permission; screens can vary by model and software version.
From the notification
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open notifications.
- Slide the website notification to the right and open its settings.
- Switch off notifications for that website.
After clearing the notification
- Open the phone’s Settings.
- Tap Notifications, then the browser that sent the alert, such as Samsung Internet or Chrome.
- Tap Sites and disable the site.

Why does Samsung Internet open by itself or show ads outside the browser?
If pages open unexpectedly, or ads appear on the Home screen or over another app, investigate installed apps instead of relying only on the browser pop-up setting. Samsung recommends Safe mode because third-party apps do not run there.
- Start the phone in Safe mode. The exact method can differ by Galaxy model; follow Samsung’s instructions for your device if needed.
- Check whether the ads or unexpected page openings stop.
- If they stop, review apps installed or updated shortly before the problem began.
- Uninstall a likely suspect, restart the phone normally, and check whether the behavior has stopped.
- If the interruptions continue, repeat with another recently installed or updated app.
Samsung also documents a version-dependent Samsung Internet Privacy dashboard control for preventing a selected app from opening the Internet. Does a pop-up mean my phone has malware?
Not necessarily. Samsung says Galaxy and Play Store apps are scanned before download and that malware is very unlikely, while warning that ads or email can try to download harmful software. A pop-up alone is not proof of infection. Samsung advises against installing third-party anti-malware apps; use its app and Safe mode troubleshooting guidance instead. See Samsung’s malware guidance.
