First check which Arctis GameBuds edition you own. The Xbox edition is the one SteelSeries describes with a dual-mode dongle; the PlayStation edition is described for PlayStation and PC, and the Glorange edition is explicitly not Xbox-compatible. If you have the Xbox edition, use its 2.4 GHz dongle for the Xbox connection. Bluetooth pairing is a separate mode, not a documented replacement for that dongle connection.
Work through the steps below in order: confirm the edition, verify that you are using the correct transmitter, re-pair the buds if necessary, and reset them only if the documented pairing procedure has not helped.
Why won’t my Arctis GameBuds connect to my Xbox?
The first question is not which button to press. It is whether the earbuds are an Xbox-compatible edition. “Arctis GameBuds” by itself does not identify the platform version. SteelSeries sells versions with different transmitter capabilities, and an otherwise identical-looking set may be intended for another console.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
There is also a specifically documented limitation for the Glorange edition: SteelSeries states that the Arctis GameBuds Glorange are not compatible with Xbox. If you own Glorange or the PlayStation edition, repeating a pairing sequence will not change the hardware’s supported platform. A different transmitter cannot turn that edition into an Xbox model.
If you do own the Xbox edition, the documented wireless path is its 2.4 GHz dongle. SteelSeries says the buds normally arrive already paired to that dongle, so manual re-pairing is primarily for a unit whose pairing has been lost. The Arctis GameBuds for Xbox manual and product guide is the edition-specific reference.
Identify the edition before changing settings
Look at the product name on the original packaging, order confirmation, or purchase record. Then compare that name with the markings on the charging case, earbuds, and dongle. Use the complete name when contacting SteelSeries. “GameBuds” is not enough information for support to determine which transmitter or console path applies.

What the edition check tells you
| Edition | Documented platform and dongle information | What to do for Xbox |
|---|---|---|
| Arctis GameBuds for Xbox | Xbox model with a dual-mode dongle; SteelSeries documents a 2.4 GHz dongle pairing procedure. | Use this edition’s own 2.4 GHz dongle and follow the re-pairing sequence if needed. |
| Arctis GameBuds for PlayStation | Single-mode dongle described for PlayStation and PC. | SteelSeries does not describe this as the Xbox model. Do not assume a mode toggle or replacement dongle will convert it. |
| Arctis GameBuds Glorange | SteelSeries says this edition is not compatible with Xbox. | It cannot be made Xbox-compatible by repeating pairing steps or substituting a generic transmitter. |
These descriptions concern platform compatibility and connection method, not sound quality or performance. There is no supported setting that makes an incompatible edition use the Xbox wireless path.
Can I connect Arctis GameBuds to Xbox with Bluetooth?
Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz are separate connection modes. SteelSeries’ Bluetooth instructions put the buds into a Bluetooth pairing state, shown by blue-blinking LEDs, and then have you complete pairing from the other device’s Bluetooth settings. That is not the same procedure as pairing the Xbox edition to its wireless dongle.
Therefore, do not use Bluetooth as a promised workaround for a PlayStation or Glorange set. Bluetooth pairing does not add Xbox compatibility to an edition that SteelSeries does not describe for Xbox. Even with the Xbox edition, the documented Xbox route remains the edition’s 2.4 GHz dongle.

For the separate Bluetooth procedure, place both buds in the case, hold an earbud button for three seconds, and look for the blue blink. Then use the intended device’s Bluetooth settings to finish pairing. Those instructions explain Bluetooth mode only; they do not alter which GameBuds edition supports Xbox.
How do I re-pair Arctis GameBuds to the dongle?
Confirm the Xbox edition and locate its matching dongle first. Since SteelSeries says a new set should normally arrive paired, try the normal connection before assuming that the pairing database has been lost. If the connection was deliberately changed, the buds were reset, or the dongle and buds no longer recognize each other, use this documented sequence.
- Put both earbuds in the charging case. Keep them in the case while beginning the button sequence.
- Enter the first pairing stage. Hold the button on either earbud for three seconds, then release it. SteelSeries says the buds enter a Bluetooth pairing stage and the LED blinks blue.
- Switch to 2.4 GHz pairing mode. Hold one earbud button for one second again. The LED should blink green, indicating 2.4 GHz pairing mode.
- Connect the dongle. Plug the dongle into the device, then hold the button on the dongle for three seconds.
- Wait for the pairing to finish. SteelSeries says the GameBuds should then pair with the dongle.
Follow the timing closely. The three-second hold starts the sequence; the later one-second hold changes from the blue Bluetooth stage to the green 2.4 GHz stage; and the dongle button is held for three seconds. These are distinct actions.

What do the blue and green LEDs mean?
In the cited dongle procedure, blue blinking identifies the intermediate Bluetooth pairing stage. Green blinking identifies 2.4 GHz pairing mode. Stopping after blue leaves the buds in the wrong mode for the intended dongle connection.
The same blue indication is used when you intentionally put the GameBuds into Bluetooth pairing mode for another device. Read the LED together with the action you just performed. Blue does not mean that an Xbox dongle has been paired, and green does not establish that the Xbox console has completed every part of its own setup.
What the pairing article establishes—and what it does not
SteelSeries’ pairing article tells you how to put the buds and dongle into their pairing states. It says to plug the dongle into a PS4 or “another device”; it does not publish a separate, Xbox-console-specific re-pairing sequence on that page.
That distinction matters when diagnosing a console symptom. The sequence is appropriate for restoring the relationship between compatible GameBuds and their dongle. It is not evidence that every “dongle not detected,” no-audio, microphone, or intermittent-disconnection issue on Xbox will be resolved by those button presses alone.
After the buds and dongle have paired, use the dedicated Xbox GameBuds manual for the edition-specific console setup. If the console still does not recognize the intended connection, give SteelSeries the exact model and the behavior you observe rather than repeating the sequence indefinitely.

What if the Xbox does not detect the dongle or there is no sound?
Separate three possibilities before taking further action:
- Compatibility: The earbuds may be PlayStation or Glorange rather than the Xbox edition.
- Pairing: The Xbox edition may no longer be paired to its own 2.4 GHz dongle, or the sequence may have stopped at the blue stage.
- Console or hardware symptoms: The correct edition and dongle may be paired, but the console may still show no detection, audio, microphone input, or a connection that drops.
For the first possibility, stop troubleshooting and verify the edition. For the second, repeat the documented sequence with both buds in the case and make sure the LED reaches green before holding the dongle button. For the third, the GameBuds support pages cited here do not provide a complete Xbox-console checklist. Contact SteelSeries support with the exact edition, dongle markings, Xbox model, and the specific symptom.
Describe what happens, not just that it “will not connect.” Useful details include whether the dongle is recognized at all, whether the buds ever blink blue or green, whether audio is absent while controls work, whether the microphone is affected, and whether the connection drops after pairing. These details help support distinguish a model mismatch from a pairing or console-side fault.
A support page for the different Arctis 7X discusses general checks such as reconnecting a dongle, restarting a headset, checking mute and volume, and reviewing Xbox audio settings. That page is for Arctis 7X, not GameBuds, so do not present those instructions as GameBuds-specific official steps. If you try any general console diagnostic, label it as a general check and follow the GameBuds manual or SteelSeries support for the final guidance.
Should I buy another dongle?
Only identify the exact GameBuds edition and transmitter requirement first. SteelSeries says wireless transmitters are model-specific and that each headset requires its dedicated transmitter. A dongle marked for another headset, or a generic USB wireless adapter, is not a documented way to add Xbox support.
In particular, buying an “X” transmitter does not convert PlayStation or Glorange GameBuds into the Xbox edition. Compatibility is built into the headset-and-transmitter model, not added merely by plugging in a differently labeled accessory.
The GameBuds support material does not establish a particular replacement-dongle listing, current stock, or price. If your original transmitter is missing or appears faulty, contact SteelSeries with the exact product name and dongle markings. Ask whether a transmitter is available for that model before paying for an unverified replacement.
When should I restore factory defaults?
Use a reset as an escalation, not as the first response to an edition mismatch. Confirm that the earbuds are the Xbox model, that you have the correct dongle, and that you have tried the documented 2.4 GHz pairing procedure. A reset cannot make an unsupported edition compatible.

SteelSeries provides two ways to restore factory defaults: the Arctis Companion App and SteelSeries GG on a PC or Mac. Its reset guide does not specify exactly which stored settings or pairings are erased. Do not promise that a reset preserves those items, and be prepared to follow the appropriate pairing procedure again afterward.
Reset in the Arctis Companion App
- Connect the GameBuds to the Arctis Companion App.
- Open Settings.
- Select Restore Factory Defaults.
- Follow the prompts shown by the app.
Reset with SteelSeries GG on PC or Mac
- Open SteelSeries GG and go to Engine.
- Select Arctis GameBuds.
- Choose Restore Factory Defaults.
- Complete the on-screen instructions.
Once defaults have been restored, do not assume the previous dongle relationship still exists. Use the applicable official pairing procedure for the connection you need, and keep Bluetooth steps separate from the 2.4 GHz steps.
Why replacing the dongle is not a compatibility fix
The transmitter is part of the platform-specific connection design. The Xbox edition is documented with a dual-mode dongle, while the PlayStation edition is documented with a single-mode dongle for PlayStation and PC. This is why a replacement accessory must match the headset edition exactly.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A different transmitter may be useful only when SteelSeries confirms that it is the dedicated replacement for your exact model. It is not a universal bridge between Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and Glorange versions. Do not spend money on a generic adapter on the assumption that the console will supply the missing compatibility.

If you have confirmed the Xbox edition, used its own dongle, completed the green 2.4 GHz pairing stage, and still cannot obtain the intended connection, escalate with a concise record of the steps you performed. Include:
- the complete edition name, including whether it is labeled for Xbox, PlayStation, or Glorange;
- the markings or identifying text on the dongle;
- the Xbox console model;
- whether the buds were in the case during the button sequence;
- whether the LED blinked blue, then green;
- whether the dongle was connected before its three-second button hold;
- what the Xbox does when the dongle is connected; and
- whether the failure is detection, audio, microphone, or intermittent connection.
This information prevents support from treating an edition mismatch as a routine pairing fault. It also avoids repeating a procedure that has already been completed correctly.
Use the dedicated Xbox GameBuds manual and product information guide alongside SteelSeries support. The available GameBuds pairing instructions do not spell out a full console-specific recovery sequence for every symptom, so do not apply instructions written for another Arctis headset as though they were confirmed for GameBuds.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why won’t my Arctis GameBuds connect to my Xbox?
First verify the edition. Only the Xbox model is documented with a dual-mode dongle for the Xbox connection. PlayStation GameBuds are described for PlayStation and PC, and SteelSeries says the Glorange edition is not Xbox-compatible. If you own the Xbox edition, use its 2.4 GHz dongle and re-pair it if the original pairing was lost.

Can I connect Arctis GameBuds to Xbox with Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is a separate mode. Blue blinking indicates Bluetooth pairing mode, but SteelSeries does not describe Bluetooth as a replacement for the Xbox edition’s 2.4 GHz dongle connection. It also cannot add Xbox compatibility to a PlayStation or Glorange edition.
How do I re-pair Arctis GameBuds to the dongle?
Put both buds in the case, hold either earbud button for three seconds and release, then hold one earbud button for one second again. Blue indicates the intermediate Bluetooth stage; green indicates 2.4 GHz pairing mode. Plug in the matching dongle and hold its button for three seconds.
Why are my GameBuds blinking blue instead of connecting to the Xbox dongle?
Blue is the Bluetooth pairing indication in SteelSeries’ sequence. If you are pairing to the 2.4 GHz dongle, hold one earbud button for one second again and continue until the LED blinks green, then hold the dongle button for three seconds.

Will an Xbox dongle make PlayStation or Glorange GameBuds work on Xbox?
No. SteelSeries says transmitters are model-specific, and compatibility belongs to the headset edition. A different or generic dongle is not documented as a conversion method.
Should I reset Arctis GameBuds before contacting support?
Reset after confirming the edition and trying the documented 2.4 GHz pairing procedure. You can restore factory defaults in the Arctis Companion App or in SteelSeries GG under Engine. SteelSeries does not specify exactly which settings or pairings the reset erases, so plan to pair again afterward.
What if my GameBuds dongle is missing?
Do not buy an unverified transmitter based only on an “X” label. SteelSeries has not established a specific replacement listing or price in the cited GameBuds material. Contact SteelSeries with the exact edition and dongle markings to ask about the dedicated transmitter.
What information should I give SteelSeries if pairing still fails?
Provide the complete edition name, dongle markings, Xbox model, LED colors reached during pairing, whether the dongle was held for three seconds, and whether the symptom is detection, audio, microphone, or intermittent disconnection.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe Bottom Line
Confirm that you own Arctis GameBuds for Xbox before troubleshooting. Use that edition’s dedicated 2.4 GHz dongle, complete the blue-to-green re-pairing sequence if necessary, and keep Bluetooth troubleshooting separate. PlayStation and Glorange editions cannot be converted with another dongle. If the correct model still fails after pairing and a factory reset, contact SteelSeries with the exact model, transmitter markings, LED behavior, and Xbox symptom.
