Buy the Wooting 60HE+ if you want the broadest analog and SOCD configuration, browser-based Wootility profiles, and four profiles stored on the keyboard. Choose the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 if Rapid Tap, Protection Mode, GG QuickSet presets, and SteelSeries’ software ecosystem fit your games and workflow better. Both are wired 60% Hall-effect keyboards with adjustable actuation, and the available evidence does not establish a fair, independently tested latency winner.
This comparison uses the current Wooting 60HE+ specification page—not the separate 60HE v2—and the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3. Prices, stock, firmware, and software behavior can change by region and date.
What is being compared?
The name “Wooting 60HE” is used broadly, but Wooting’s current product page is for the Wooting 60HE+. Wooting also lists a separate 60HE v2 in its product navigation. The specifications and features below apply to the 60HE+; do not assume that a 60HE v2 or an earlier 60HE has identical hardware, firmware, switches, or included parts.
The other keyboard is the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini Gen 3, a wired 60% board using OmniPoint 3.0 Hall-effect switches. Hall-effect switches detect magnetic position rather than relying on a conventional metal contact, allowing software to set where a key registers and to react when a key moves upward. That enables adjustable actuation and rapid-input functions, but feature names alone do not prove that one keyboard is faster in a real game.

60% layout: the trade-off you feel every day
A 60% keyboard keeps the alphanumeric block and removes the dedicated function row, arrow cluster, and navigation keys. Those keys normally remain available through a function layer, but you must hold a modifier and press another key, use a remapped layer, or move your hand to a separate device.
How this affects the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3
Windows Central’s review identifies the missing dedicated function, navigation, and arrow keys and describes a learning curve. In games, a layer can keep the desk clear and leave more room for a mouse. In spreadsheets, terminal work, text editing, or frequent browser navigation, repeated layer shortcuts may be less comfortable than a tenkeyless or full-size layout.
How this affects the Wooting 60HE+
Wooting also identifies the 60HE+ as a 60% board, so the same layer-based compromise applies. Its configurable layers and profiles can make the layout easier to adapt, but they do not add physical keys. Before buying either model, test the shortcuts you use most: arrows, Delete, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, and F1–F12.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Who should avoid both?
- Choose a larger layout if you use navigation keys continuously and do not want to hold a function modifier.
- Choose a larger layout if you need a dedicated function row for software controls, debugging, or media work.
- Choose a 60% board if compact desk space, mouse room, and programmable layers matter more than dedicated keys.
Actuation and rapid input: what each board actually offers
Apex Pro Mini Gen 3: 0.1–4.0 mm adjustment
SteelSeries describes OmniPoint 3.0 as “featuring Rapid Trigger and full adjustability range from 0.1 mm to 4.0 mm.” Its March 25, 2025 launch announcement specifies 40 adjustable actuation levels across that range. A shallow setting can register a press with less travel; a deeper setting can reduce accidental presses while typing. The useful setting depends on the key, your typing force, and the game—not on the smallest available number.
Rapid Trigger
Rapid Trigger changes a key’s reset behavior from a fixed mechanical point to movement-based detection. You can release and press again with very little upward travel, which is useful for repeated directional corrections. The same sensitivity can create unintended inputs if your fingers rest heavily on keys, so begin with a moderate setting and adjust per key.
Rank #2

- Rapid Trigger Gaming Keyboard: Featuring an ultra-low RT step distance of just 0.02mm, the Win60 HE ensures lightning-fast response times, perfect for rapid shooting and complex combos. Stay ahead in intense matches with unmatched speed and precision
- Compact 60% Design: With its space-saving 60% layout small keyboard, the Win60 HE is ideal for gaming, work, or travel. Its compact size saves desk space without sacrificing functionality, making it perfect for gamers and typists alike
- Dynamic RGB Lighting: The Win60 HE features a lower light position design that illuminates PBT keycaps, along with 16.8 million customizable RGB colors. Create stunning lighting effects to match your setup and elevate your gaming atmosphere
Rapid Tap
SteelSeries says, “Rapid Tap prioritizes the last pressed key in a pair without needing to release the previous key, enabling faster input and improved aim.” The feature is intended for pairs such as opposing movement keys. It changes how simultaneous presses are resolved; it is not a universal latency measurement and may require game-specific testing to ensure the behavior matches your movement habits.
Protection Mode
Protection Mode is designed to reduce accidental simultaneous activation by changing the behavior of selected keys when another key is held. The exact interaction is configured in SteelSeries software. Treat it as a control option to tune, not as proof that the keyboard will improve aim or movement automatically.
Dual-action keys
The Apex can assign two actions to one key at different actuation points. For example, a light press can perform one action and a deeper press another. This can save a key in a compact layout, but it also demands consistent control of travel; accidental deep presses are possible while learning the boundary.
Wooting 60HE+: more configurable input modes
Wooting lists Rapid Trigger, Snappy Tappy, Rappy Snappy, Dynamic Keystroke, Mod Tap, adjustable actuation, and analog controller input for the 60HE+. These are separate configuration tools:
- Snappy Tappy: a configurable simultaneous-opposing-cardinal-direction (SOCD) behavior for pairs such as left/right. The result depends on the selected rule and the game’s input handling.
- Rappy Snappy: a rapid-switching behavior for selected keys, intended to prioritize or react to the key with the greater movement signal according to the configured mode.
- Dynamic Keystroke: assigns multiple actions at different points in one key’s travel.
- Mod Tap: lets a key perform one action when tapped and another while held.
- Analog controller input: exposes key travel as an analog value for compatible games or software rather than only pressed/released states.
These capabilities give the Wooting more ways to build a personal control scheme. They do not establish that it is objectively faster than the Apex. A feature must be supported by the game and configured so that its behavior is legal and useful in that game.
Rank #3

Software and profiles
SteelSeries GG and QuickSet
The Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 uses SteelSeries GG for configuration. SteelSeries highlights GG QuickSet presets, which are intended to apply game-oriented settings quickly. The workflow suits someone who already uses GG or wants a conventional desktop application for actuation, rapid-input options, key assignments, and per-game settings.
When setting up the Apex, create a general typing profile first. Use deeper actuation for frequently mistyped letters and a shallower value only on keys where rapid response is genuinely useful. Then make a separate game profile for movement and dual-action assignments. Keeping those uses separate prevents a gaming configuration from making ordinary writing feel overly sensitive.
Wootility and onboard storage
Wooting configures the 60HE+ through Wootility, available as an app or browser-based tool according to Wooting’s workflow. The official page states: “Up to four onboard profiles stay saved on the keyboard and load instantly on any device, without having to open Wootility.” That is valuable if you move between a desktop, laptop, tournament station, or work computer where installing software is inconvenient.
Use one profile for typing, one for your primary game, one for a game with different SOCD or analog requirements, and leave the fourth for experimentation. Save a known-good profile before trying aggressive Rapid Trigger or Rappy Snappy settings so you can recover quickly if a configuration feels unstable.
Which software approach is better?
| If you value… | More natural fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Game presets inside an established desktop suite | Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 | GG QuickSet is the advertised preset workflow. |
| Browser-based or app-based configuration and portable profiles | Wooting 60HE+ | Wooting documents Wootility and four onboard profiles. |
| Many custom input behaviors | Wooting 60HE+ | Its listed SOCD, analog, Dynamic Keystroke, Mod Tap, and rapid-input options are extensive. |
| A simpler set of named gaming controls | Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 | Rapid Tap, Protection Mode, dual-action keys, and QuickSet cover the principal advertised controls. |
Typing feel and construction
Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 observations
Windows Central reports that the Apex Mini has a mostly plastic frame with an aluminum top frame, internal dampening, and pre-lubricated stabilizers. The review judged its typing experience less compelling for its price than some premium typing-focused keyboards. That is an individual reviewer assessment, not a universal measurement: switch sensitivity, keycap preference, desk surface, and typing technique all affect the result.
Rank #4
- Optimally-compact 96% form factor: A full keyboard with arrow keys, a tenkey pad, brilliant LCD screen, 6 programmable G-keys, and a rotary dial in a super-compact frame that’s roughly the size of a TKL keyboard.
- CORSAIR MGX Hyperdrive Hall Effect switches: Speedy, wobble-free CORSAIR MGX Hyperdrive Hall Effect keyswitches feature pre-lubed stems, dual-actuation support, stunning RGB lighting, and are rated for 150 million keypresses.
- Vibrant LCD screen: The keyboard of the future is here! Personalize your keyboard on a whole new level with a brilliant 1.9", 320 x 170 IPS color screen you can use to display custom animations, images, rotary dial integration, and more.
- Maximize every millisecond: Own the advantage when milliseconds matter most with ultra-responsive 8,000Hz hyper-polling. Eliminate input lag and ensure your in-game actions and stream commands are sent instantaneously.
- CORSAIR Rapid Trigger Technology: Win with the power of magnets! MGX Hyperdrive switches can have dynamically resetting actuation points, enabling rapid taps that don’t need the keyswitch to fully reset.
The practical implication is to consider the Apex primarily as a feature-rich gaming board rather than assuming its price guarantees a premium typing experience. If you write for hours each day, pay attention to actuation consistency, bottom-out sound, stabilizer movement, and whether the 60% layout slows your work.
Wooting 60HE+ specifications
Wooting lists an ABS case and steel plate for the 60HE+. Those materials describe the chassis and mounting structure, not a guaranteed sound or feel. The Lekker L60 switches and adjustable actuation let you tune registration depth, but a Hall-effect design does not automatically make a keyboard quiet, soft, or comfortable.
If you are considering the optional Wooting 60HE+ Module, note that Wooting presents it as a builder part. It is not a substitute for the complete prebuilt keyboard in this comparison; check exactly what a listing includes before ordering.
Setup guide: configure either keyboard without creating accidental inputs
Initial checklist
- Connect the keyboard by its supplied wired connection and update the manufacturer software or firmware if the software offers an update for your exact model.
- Confirm that the detected model is Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 or Wooting 60HE+, not a similarly named generation.
- Record the factory or default profile before changing settings.
- Test arrows, function-layer shortcuts, Escape, Backspace, and your most-used modifiers because a 60% layout moves familiar commands behind layers.
Build a typing profile
- Set most letter and number keys to a moderate actuation depth rather than the minimum.
- Type a representative paragraph for several minutes.
- Increase the travel on keys that trigger accidentally; decrease it only where you can control the press reliably.
- Check stabilised keys such as Space, Enter, Backspace, and Shift for unwanted repeats or missed presses.
- Save the profile separately from your game profile.
Build a movement profile
- Start Rapid Trigger at a conservative sensitivity.
- Configure only the movement keys first and test walking, strafing, and stopping in a practice area.
- Add Rapid Tap, Protection Mode, SOCD, or other advanced behaviors one at a time.
- Verify that simultaneous opposite-direction inputs behave as you intend and comply with the rules of the game or competition.
- Keep a reset profile available so an unwanted behavior does not leave you without a usable configuration.
Price, warranty, and availability
Apex historical MSRP
SteelSeries announced a US $199.99 launch MSRP for the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 on March 25, 2025. That figure is a historical US launch price, not a current retail quote. Current pricing can differ by country, retailer, promotion, taxes, and stock. Check the exact wired Mini Gen 3 listing and layout before paying.
Wooting warranty
Wooting states, “Our four year warranty is excluding the LED’s.” The four-year term therefore carries an explicit LED exclusion. Read the warranty terms that apply to your region and purchase channel, and retain proof of purchase.

Do usage figures prove one keyboard is better?
Wooting’s product page reproduces ProSettings.net figures as of June 22, 2026, listing the Wooting 60HE+ among 20.6% of tracked Valorant players (137 players). The same page’s CS2 figure refers to the Wooting 80HE, not the 60HE+. These are usage figures displayed by Wooting, not controlled tests and not evidence that the 60HE+ is objectively faster.
Popularity can reflect availability, sponsorship, community habits, or player preference. It is useful context when evaluating ecosystem adoption, but it should not replace testing your own layout and settings.

No independent, controlled head-to-head test of the exact Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 and Wooting 60HE+ was verified for this article. In particular, there is no defensible basis here for declaring a winner on latency, actuation speed, polling behavior, or millisecond advantage. Different firmware, USB paths, operating-system settings, game engines, and test methods can produce different results.
Manufacturer feature lists establish what each product is designed to provide. They do not show how much a player will improve. Your result will depend on whether a game recognizes the configured behavior, whether you can control a shallow actuation point, and whether the 60% layer layout fits your hands.
Which keyboard should you buy?
Choose the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 when…
- You want a 60% wired board with a published 0.1–4.0 mm actuation range and 40 adjustment levels.
- Rapid Tap, Protection Mode, dual-action keys, and GG QuickSet address the way you play.
- You already use SteelSeries GG and prefer its desktop preset workflow.
- You find the Apex at a current price that makes its construction and typing compromises acceptable.
- You prefer a smaller, more focused set of named rapid-input controls over a larger menu of experimental behaviors.
Choose the Wooting 60HE+ when…
- You want configurable SOCD behavior, Rappy Snappy, Dynamic Keystroke, Mod Tap, and analog controller input in one platform.
- You move between systems and value four profiles stored on the keyboard.
- You prefer Wootility’s app or browser configuration workflow.
- The four-year warranty excluding LEDs and the available regional price justify the purchase.
- You are willing to spend time tuning profiles rather than relying on factory defaults.
Choose neither yet when…
- You need dedicated arrows, navigation keys, or an F-row every day.
- You are buying solely because of an advertised latency number that has not been independently verified for this exact matchup.
- You have not checked the current price, warranty, layout, and generation for your region.
Bottom line
The Wooting 60HE+ is the more flexible choice on the documented feature set, particularly for analog input, SOCD configuration, Dynamic Keystroke, Mod Tap, and onboard profiles. The Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 is the more straightforward alternative if Rapid Tap, Protection Mode, dual-action keys, GG QuickSet, and SteelSeries’ software fit your needs. Neither should be called the objectively faster keyboard from the evidence available here. Decide first whether you can live with a 60% layer layout, then choose the software and input behaviors you will actually use.
