SteelSeries Aeon Pro is a gaming controller, not a headset. It charges through USB-C or its included base-station dock, uses two replaceable batteries, and supports different platforms depending on whether you use 2.4 GHz wireless, USB-C, or Bluetooth. This guide explains the charging process, battery estimates, battery swapping, Bluetooth pairing, and the Xbox, PC, mobile, Mac, and smart-TV compatibility limits documented by SteelSeries.
What the Aeon Pro is and how its connections differ
The Aeon Pro is a wireless gaming controller. It should not be confused with SteelSeries Arctis or Nova headsets. Its base station provides 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity for Xbox and PC, while the controller can also connect by USB-C cable or Bluetooth, depending on the device.
Compatibility is connection-specific. Xbox is documented for the base station’s 2.4 GHz link or a direct USB-C wired connection; SteelSeries does not document Bluetooth support for Xbox. PC can use the base station, USB-C, or Bluetooth. Mobile devices, Macs, and smart TVs use the wired or Bluetooth paths listed in the official guide.

How to charge the Aeon Pro controller
Charge through the controller’s USB-C port
- Connect the included USB-C-to-USB-A cable to the USB-C charging port on the top of the controller.
- Connect the USB-A end to a suitable powered USB port or charger.
- Leave the controller connected until its battery indicator shows the charge you need.
The package includes the charging cable. SteelSeries’ manual does not state how many hours a completely depleted battery needs to reach full charge, so do not rely on an assumed charging-time figure.

Charge on the base station
- Place the controller on the included base station.
- Align the controller’s pogo charging contacts with the pogo pins on the dock.
- Confirm that the controller is seated squarely so the contacts remain engaged.
The dock is more than a wireless receiver: it also charges the controller through those contacts and has a separate slot for charging a spare battery.
Charge a battery outside the controller
Remove the battery from the controller and insert it into the dedicated battery-charging slot on the base station. This lets one battery charge while the other is installed in the controller or being used. The manual documents the slot, but does not publish a full-charge duration.
How the two-battery swap system works
Two replaceable batteries are included. Instead of waiting for the battery in the controller to recharge, you can exchange it for the charged spare in the dock.

- Remove the depleted battery.
- Insert the charged battery from the dock, following the compartment’s orientation markings.
- Close the cover and check that the controller powers on.
- Put the depleted battery into the base station’s separate charging slot.
SteelSeries Support describes this arrangement as extending battery life “endlessly using our dual battery system.” That wording refers to alternating two charged batteries; it does not mean a single battery runs indefinitely.

SteelSeries’ product information says Aeon Pro batteries are compatible with batteries for Arctis Nova Pro, Arctis Nova Pro Omni, and Arctis Nova Elite products. Before buying an additional or replacement cell, verify that the exact listing names Aeon Pro compatibility. The shared-product statement alone is not a substitute for checking the seller’s model details.
How long the battery lasts
SteelSeries publishes setup-specific estimates rather than one universal runtime. These are manufacturer estimates, not independent measurements, and the support material does not display a publication year. Actual time varies with connection mode, attached accessories, settings, and usage.

Do not treat these numbers as a promise for every game or platform. They are the figures SteelSeries publishes for the listed configurations, and no independent battery test is represented here.

Why PC and console figures differ
SteelSeries attributes the difference to polling rate. PC use without a headset uses a 1000 Hz polling rate. Console use, or using a headset through the controller, locks polling at 250 Hz and therefore uses less power according to the manufacturer. This is SteelSeries’ explanation for the setup-dependent estimates, not an independently verified measurement.

Bluetooth pairing procedure
- Turn on the controller.
- Hold the Menu and View buttons together for three seconds to open the OLED menu.
- Enter System Select.
- Choose Bluetooth.
- On the phone, tablet, computer, Mac, or other supported device, open Bluetooth settings and select Aeon Pro.
Bluetooth is documented for PC and mobile gaming. The detailed guide also lists iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Android, and smart TVs. Xbox is the important exception: SteelSeries says Xbox connects through the base station, so you should not expect the Aeon Pro to appear as an Xbox Bluetooth controller.
Compatibility by connection mode
Use the following matrix when choosing a connection. A platform appearing in one row does not imply that it works through every other row.

SteelSeries’ support description summarizes the same boundaries: Xbox uses the base station, PC can use the base station or Bluetooth, and mobile gaming uses Bluetooth. The manual’s broader table adds the named wired platforms and smart-TV Bluetooth support.
Choosing the best connection for each device
Xbox
Use the base station’s 2.4 GHz wireless connection for the documented wireless setup, or connect the controller by USB-C. Bluetooth is not listed as an Xbox option in SteelSeries’ compatibility information.

Windows PC
You can use the base station, a direct USB-C cable, or Bluetooth. If you want the PC setup described by SteelSeries as using a 1000 Hz polling rate, that refers specifically to PC use without a headset plugged into the controller.
iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Android device
Use Bluetooth for wireless play, following the Menu-plus-View pairing sequence, or use a USB-C wired connection. The manual names iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and Android for wired operation and also names them for Bluetooth, so check the device’s available port and operating-system support before choosing a cable.
Smart TV
The manual lists smart TVs for Bluetooth. It does not list smart TVs in the 2.4 GHz or USB-C rows of the matrix, so Bluetooth is the documented route for this category.
Can the Aeon Pro work without the base station?
Yes, but the answer depends on the device and connection. PC can use Bluetooth or USB-C without the dock. Mobile devices, Macs, Android devices, and smart TVs can use the wired or Bluetooth modes listed in the matrix. Xbox is the limitation: SteelSeries documents Xbox wireless operation through the base station, with USB-C as the direct wired alternative.

The base station is still required for the controller’s documented Xbox 2.4 GHz wireless connection and provides the convenient spare-battery charging slot. Removing it from a setup therefore changes both wireless compatibility and charging convenience.
Troubleshooting charging and connection problems
The controller does not charge on the dock
- Remove and reseat the controller so its pogo contacts align with the dock pins.
- Check that the base station itself is receiving power.
- Try the top USB-C charging port and the included cable to determine whether the issue is limited to the dock contacts.
- Inspect the battery compartment and reinstall the battery in the marked orientation.
The spare battery is not charging
- Insert the battery fully into the base station’s separate battery slot.
- Confirm that the dock is powered.
- Try the other battery in the same slot; this helps distinguish a seating problem from a battery-specific problem.
Bluetooth pairing fails
- Turn the controller on.
- Hold Menu and View for three seconds.
- Choose System Select, then Bluetooth.
- Remove an old Aeon Pro entry from the device’s Bluetooth list if it is present, then search again for Aeon Pro.
If you are trying to pair with Xbox, switch to the base station or USB-C because Bluetooth is not the documented Xbox connection.
Runtime is shorter than the published estimate
Check which setup you are using before treating the result as a fault. SteelSeries gives different estimates for Bluetooth, Xbox, PC without a headset, and a controller with a headset attached. Polling rate, audio accessories, wireless mode, display activity, and game use can all change actual runtime, and the published figures are not independent test results.

Because the cable and dock are included, buying another one is generally only relevant if you need a replacement or a second charging location. The most relevant spare for owners is an additional compatible battery, but confirm the exact Aeon Pro model on any replacement listing before ordering.
