The key practical issues are clearer: the two seats have different weight limits, the second seat has a specified rear-facing direction of installation in the manual (that is, the child faces forward), and not every Strider second seat fits every Strider frame.

Can the Strider Compact carry 17 kg or 20 kg?
It depends on which seat is occupied. Britax Australia lists a maximum child weight of 20 kg for the main seat and 17 kg for the second seat. Those are individual seat limits, not a combined 37 kg allowance and not a guarantee that a particular used stroller is in safe condition. Follow the manual for the exact model, install the second seat correctly, and do not overload the stroller.
The Compact Deluxe manual, Series HA8343, states: “DO NOT OVERLOAD THE STROLLER. OVERLOADING WILL CAUSE THE STROLLER TO TIP BACKWARDS.” The manual gives the stroller seat a 20 kg limit and the second seat a 17 kg limit. Its separate limits for accessories are specific to the products and generation named in that manual; they should not be assumed to apply to every Strider accessory. Which second seat fits a Strider Compact?
Do not assume that a seat fits just because it is described as a Strider second seat. In manufacturer replies collected on ProductReview.com.au, Britax says the current Strider Signature second seat fits an older Strider Compact, while a Strider Plus second seat does not. A manufacturer reply also cautions that the Compact seat was not tested on the Signature stroller. That is not proof of universal compatibility across every Compact frame or every Signature combination.
Before fitting a seat from another generation, identify the exact stroller frame and seat, then ask Britax to confirm that specific combination. The manual for Series HA8343 identifies the Deluxe second seat as a separately sold compatible product for the Compact Deluxe, but that does not establish compatibility for every Compact variant. Used-seat and frame checks
- Record the frame’s exact model or batch details and the second seat’s model or generation.
- Compare the seat’s mounting points with the frame and verify whether any required extenders are present.
- Inspect the fabric, harness, buckles, locking parts, and attachment points for damage, wear, or missing components.
- Get confirmation from Britax for any cross-generation pairing before carrying a child.
- Do not rely on a seller’s general claim that a seat “fits a Strider”; ask which frame and seat combination was checked.
Can the main seat be reversed with the second seat attached?
Britax Australia’s FAQ says reversing the main seat while the second seat is fitted is physically possible but not recommended. It suggests fully reclining the upper seat if someone chooses that arrangement. The Compact Deluxe manual says the second seat must be fitted at the rear of the stroller, forward-facing, and locked correctly. Can you get a bootcover or footmuff for the second seat?
Britax Australia’s FAQ says the second seat is not compatible with a bootcover. The available source does not establish that a footmuff is compatible, so do not assume one will fit or be safe. Will the Strider Compact fit through a standard doorway?
There is no single doorway width established in the sources, and the published stroller widths do not agree: CHOICE lists 64 cm, while Britax Australia’s FAQ gives 625 mm. Measure the assembled stroller at its widest point and compare it with the clear width of the doorway, including any trim or other obstruction. The Compact Deluxe Series HA8343 manual names the Deluxe second seat, Deluxe bassinet, Steelcraft baby capsule, and Britax Unity baby capsule as separately sold compatible products. These references apply to the manual’s generation; they do not establish compatibility for every later capsule, adapter, or frame.

For capsule use, the manual identifies Steelcraft capsule models and specified Britax Safe-n-Sound Unity variants, with Click & Go receivers for Unity. Check the precise capsule model and generation against the official compatibility information before buying fittings or attaching it. The manual also specifies fitting orientation and locking checks, requires capsules to be removed before folding, and cautions that a capsule should not replace an appropriate cot. Is a discontinued Strider Compact worth considering secondhand?
It may suit a family that needs a tandem layout and can verify the exact frame, seat, and accessory combination. The decision depends less on the model name than on whether the particular stroller is complete, undamaged, and compatible with the second seat you intend to use. The available sources do not establish current stock, the remaining service life of an individual secondhand frame, or present availability of replacement parts.
- Confirm compatibility with Britax using the exact frame and second-seat details.
- Check that the seat locks securely and that its harness and fabric are in sound condition.
- Confirm the stroller’s condition and completeness in person; a published specification cannot reveal wear or damage.
