There is no confirmed single Steam game identified by the headline “free download until October 25.” The date matches an unnamed offer in SteamDB’s promotion tracker, while Valve’s Steam Next Fest runs October 19–26, 2026 and offers hundreds of free playable demos. Verify the exact store page before downloading: the entitlement, deadline, time zone and regional availability determine whether you keep anything permanently.
What the October 25 date refers to
SteamDB’s upcoming-promotions tracker lists an offer ending October 25, 2026, at 18:00 UTC, but the retrieved listing does not identify the game. That entry is a lead, not proof of a particular title. Check SteamDB’s free-promotion tracker, then open the linked official Steam store page and confirm the game name and offer terms there.
A separate, confirmed source of free downloads is Steam Next Fest, October 2026. Valve describes the event as “a week-long celebration of upcoming games featuring demos, developer livestreams and chats,” running from October 19 through October 26, 2026. It includes hundreds of free playable demos rather than one guaranteed full game.

Free-to-play, demo, free weekend or free-to-keep?
The wording on the store page matters more than a headline. These four offer types give you different rights:

| Offer type | What you receive | After the deadline | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free-to-play | A game that can be downloaded and played without buying it | Normally remains playable; optional purchases may be offered | Any account, region, platform or feature restrictions |
| Free demo | A limited preview of an upcoming or released game | The demo may remain available, change or be removed; it does not grant the full game | Whether progress carries to the full release and which platforms are supported |
| Free weekend | Temporary access to the full game | Access generally ends when the event closes unless you purchase the game | The exact end time and whether a discount is attached |
| Free to keep | A permanent license when you claim it during the promotion | The game stays in your Steam library, subject to the promotion’s stated conditions | That the store button says “Add to Account” or otherwise grants ownership, not merely “Play Game” or “Download Demo” |
What Steam says about free-to-play access
Steam Support states: “Free to play games are available to download for free and can be played without a subscription or a credit card.” Optional in-game purchases can still exist. Steam also notes that some account features are limited when an account has not purchased a game or funded its Steam Wallet. Details are in Steam’s free-to-play account guidance.
How to check and claim the correct offer
- Find the exact title. Use the tracker entry or browse the Next Fest event page, but do not rely on a search-result snippet alone.
- Open the official Steam store page. Confirm the title, publisher, edition and the wording beside the purchase or download button.
- Read the deadline in context. The listed October 25 deadline is 18:00 UTC. Convert it to your local time and allow for the possibility that Valve or the publisher changes the schedule.
- Identify the entitlement. Look for “Free to Play,” “Download Demo,” a free-weekend notice or an explicit free-to-keep promotion. A download by itself does not prove permanent ownership.
- Check platform and region support. The store page’s system requirements and availability determine whether the title works on Windows, macOS, Linux or Steam Deck and whether your region can claim it.
- Claim before downloading when possible. If the page offers an ownership button, add the game to your account before the deadline, then verify it appears in your Library. For a demo or free weekend, expect the access period to follow the event rules instead.
What happens at 18:00 UTC on October 25?
If the unnamed tracker offer is the promotion you mean, its published end point is 18:00 UTC on October 25, 2026. The equivalent clock time varies by location and may differ if the promotion is revised. Store pages can also apply regional pricing, age checks or local availability rules. Open the page from your own account immediately before claiming; that is the authoritative check.

Can you keep the game forever?
Only a free-to-keep claim or a normal free-to-play license should be treated as ongoing access, and the store page must say so. A Next Fest demo is a preview, not ownership of the finished game. A free weekend grants temporary play even when the full game is installed. If the page does not clearly state permanent ownership, assume the access is limited until the publisher’s terms say otherwise.

Check that you are viewing the correct regional Steam store and that the promotion has not ended. Prices, age gates and regional restrictions can change during an event.

The button says “Download Demo”
You are receiving a demo entitlement, not the full game. Read the demo description for its scope and availability.
I downloaded it but cannot find permanent ownership
Open your Steam Library and the game’s account details. Installation is not the same as claiming a free-to-keep license; a free weekend or demo can install without adding the full product to your account.

Steam asks for payment details
For a standard free-to-play download, Steam says a subscription or credit card is not required. A payment prompt may indicate optional content, a different edition or a promotion that is not actually free; recheck the store page before proceeding.

Bottom line for the October 25 headline
The only October 25, 2026 offer identified in the available listing is an unnamed SteamDB entry ending at 18:00 UTC. The confirmed Valve event is Steam Next Fest, October 19–26, with hundreds of free demos. Because those are different entitlements, verify the exact official store page and its claim language before assuming you will keep a full game permanently.
