There is no published personal wait estimate for Steam Frame. Valve randomized each model’s reservation list once on September 17, 2026, then began emailing the reservation queue on September 18. Your invitation timing depends on your randomized position, the 256GB or 1TB model you selected, your shipping region, cancellations ahead of you and later production runs. Signups made after the randomization were placed at the back of the waitlist.
As of October 13, 2026, Valve has not published how far each list has progressed, how many units remain or which positions have been reached. Check the email attached to your Steam account and any reservation-status page in your account rather than relying on reports from another model or region.
How Steam Frame invitations are ordered
Steam Frame reservations are not being processed strictly in signup order. Valve says it randomized each model’s signup list on September 17, 2026, at 10 a.m. Pacific. The resulting order determines who is contacted first within that model and shipping region.
Valve described the reason for this one-time draw in its Steam Frame Signup FAQ: “We wanted to create a system that would be less frustrating and more fair for everyone.” The practical consequence is that signing up earlier did not guarantee an earlier place, and refreshing the signup page did not improve a customer’s position.

Valve said it would begin emailing people in the reservation queue on September 18, 2026. Its exact wording was: “We will begin emailing folks in the reservation queue on September 18th, in the order they were randomized into.” That is a start date and an ordering rule, not a promise that every customer would receive an invitation on that day or within a particular number of days.
The five factors that control your waiting time
1. Your randomized place
After the September 17 draw, each eligible signup had a position. A person near the front can receive an invitation during the initial allocation, while someone farther back may remain on the waitlist. Valve has not published the position ranges that have been reached, so customers cannot convert their signup date into a reliable calendar estimate.
2. The model you selected
The 256GB and 1TB Steam Frame configurations have separate reservation lists. Valve also says customers cannot switch models after receiving their status email. A place on the 256GB list therefore cannot be used to claim a 1TB unit, and progress reported for one configuration says nothing definitive about the other.
3. Your shipping region
Valve maintains separate lists for North America, the United Kingdom and European Union, and Australia. You are placed on the list for your shipping region. Different regions can therefore move at different speeds even when customers have similar randomized positions or signed up at similar times.
4. Cancellations ahead of you
A reservation can disappear when a customer cancels. Valve says those cancellations may move a waitlisted customer into the reservation queue. This can make a waitlist advance without a new production run, but Valve has not stated how often cancellations occur or how many places any particular cancellation will advance.

5. Future production runs
If cancellations do not create enough openings, Valve says it will offer units from future production runs to people on the waitlist in waitlist order. The FAQ gives no dates or quantities for those runs. A waitlisted customer’s eventual timing therefore depends on both their position and the pace at which Valve makes additional units available.
Reservation queue versus waitlist
The status message matters more than the date you signed up. Valve uses two different terms:

Being on the waitlist is not the same as losing eligibility. It means the first allocation did not reach your randomized position. Valve says waitlisted customers are considered in their existing order; the FAQ does not describe a paid upgrade, queue-jumping mechanism or a second random draw.
What the September 18 start date does—and does not—tell you
September 18 marks the planned beginning of reservation-queue emails. It does not identify the last position contacted, the number of messages sent or the number of units still available. Valve’s current FAQ also does not publish an individual estimate for a customer in either the reservation queue or the waitlist.
As of October 13, 2026, there is no official progress figure that supports a statement such as “emails are currently reaching position X” or “the wait is Y weeks.” Treat social-media reports and screenshots as anecdotes unless they match your exact model and shipping region—and even then, they cannot establish your own date.

How to check whether your invitation has arrived
- Check the email address on your Steam account. Search the inbox, spam, junk and promotions folders for a message from Valve or Steam about Steam Frame. Do not rely on an email address used for a different account.
- Sign in to the Steam account used for the signup. Look for the Steam Frame reservation status or related account notice, if one is displayed. The account is the authoritative place to confirm the model and region associated with your signup.
- Verify the status wording. “Reservation queue” indicates an allocated unit; “waitlist” indicates that the initial allocation did not reach your randomized position.
- Do not infer progress from another list. A 1TB customer in North America and a 256GB customer in Australia are not in the same queue, even if both received an email on the same day.
- Keep access to the account and inbox. An invitation is useful only if you can sign in and complete the purchase before the stated deadline.
Valve has not documented a public queue counter in the FAQ. If your account does not show a position or estimate, that absence is expected; there is no official number to calculate from.

The 72-hour purchase deadline
When Valve is ready to sell the reserved unit, it sends a purchase email. You have 72 hours to complete the purchase. If you do not finish within that window, Valve cancels the reservation and moves to the next person in that queue.
This deadline means an email is not a permanent hold. Before an invitation arrives, make sure you can access the Steam account, use an accepted payment method and provide a shipping address for the region tied to the reservation. If you will be away from email, arrange a way to monitor the account during the 72-hour period rather than assuming the reservation will remain available.
Signup eligibility and why duplicate entries do not help
Valve required a Steam account in good standing, at least one Steam purchase made before April 27, 2026, and one signup per household. Valve says it checks payment method, shipping address and other information to remove multiple entries.
Creating additional accounts or using different signup details is therefore not a reliable way to gain another place. The stated household limit and duplicate-entry checks are part of the eligibility rules, while the September 17 randomization determines the order for valid signups.

256GB or 1TB: what you can compare

Choose based on your storage needs, not an assumed invitation advantage. Valve confirms the lists are separate but does not publish comparative queue speeds, allocation sizes or invitation probabilities. Once your status email is issued, Valve says you cannot switch models, so the selection made at signup controls which list you follow.
Can someone on the waitlist jump ahead?
Valve’s stated process does not provide a voluntary way to jump ahead. Waitlisted customers remain in waitlist order. A person can move into the reservation queue when cancellations create an opening; otherwise, Valve says future production is offered in that same order.
The only routine change described by Valve is attrition: if someone ahead of you does not purchase within the 72-hour window or cancels, the next person can be contacted. That is different from a customer choosing to pay more, changing regions or switching models to bypass the list.

Queue reports are meaningful only when all relevant dimensions match. A report should identify the 256GB or 1TB configuration and the shipping region, and it should distinguish a reservation-queue email from a waitlist notice. Even then, one report shows that one position was reached; it does not reveal how many invitations remain or predict the next email.

Valve’s regional lists also mean that a burst of invitations in North America does not demonstrate equivalent progress in the United Kingdom, European Union or Australia. The same caution applies when comparing the two storage configurations.

What Valve has not published
The Steam Frame Signup FAQ does not provide a current queue length, a live position counter, the number of invitations sent, the number of units remaining, the number of cancellations, an average wait duration or a production schedule for later offers. Those missing figures prevent a defensible personal estimate.
A precise date would require at least your list position, the number of positions already processed, the remaining allocation and a production timetable. Valve has not supplied those inputs publicly. Any site or post that turns the September 18 start date into a guaranteed delivery or invitation date is making a claim beyond the published information.
Accessories do not change reservation order
Valve’s product information also names compatible prescription inserts and first-party power-supply, replacement and ergonomic accessory kits. Valve says the first-party kits are available only to customers purchasing a Steam Frame during the add-to-cart process. These add-ons do not create a separate invitation path or improve a customer’s position; the reservation remains tied to the selected headset model and shipping region.
A practical way to think about your situation
If you are in the reservation queue
Your unit is reserved within the relevant allocation. Watch the Steam account email and be prepared to complete the purchase within 72 hours of the message. The September 18 start date still does not reveal the exact day your email will arrive.
If you are on the waitlist
Your randomized place was outside the initial allocation. You stay in order, may advance after cancellations and can receive an offer from a future production run. Because Valve has not published production dates or queue progress, there is no official personal countdown.
If you signed up after September 17
Your signup was made after the one-time randomization and, under Valve’s rule, went to the back of the waitlist. The later signup date does not enter the earlier randomized order.
If your region or model differs from a friend’s
Use your own account status as the reference. Their invitation date cannot establish yours because Valve separates lists by both model and shipping region.

Plan around uncertainty rather than a guessed date. Valve has defined the ordering mechanism, the distinction between reservation and waitlist, the role of cancellations and future production, and the 72-hour purchase window. It has not defined a public personal wait estimate or live progress report. The most reliable action is to monitor the Steam account used for signup and treat any invitation as time-sensitive once it arrives.
