Short answer: Jio AirFiber and Starlink solve different connectivity problems. Jio AirFiber is fixed wireless broadband delivered over Jio’s True 5G network, while Starlink uses a satellite terminal with a clear view of the sky. The better choice is the service that can actually be ordered at your address, not the one with the larger headline speed.
Jio publishes Indian plan examples and installation terms, although the exact offer depends on locality. Starlink’s Indian consumer price, hardware bundle and residential orderability are not established by the currently available official information. Check both services at the precise installation address before comparing total cost.

How the two networks reach your home
Jio AirFiber uses a local 5G connection
AirFiber is a fixed-wireless service: a Jio outdoor device receives the provider’s True 5G network and connects your home to a Wi-Fi router. It is not a fiber cable running to the building, so the service depends on local radio coverage, network capacity and whether Jio considers the address feasible for installation.
#1 Best Overall
- Gen 3 Satellite Dish: Third-generation antenna delivers a stronger, more stable signal and faster performance.
- Wi-Fi 6 Router: Modern router technology supports faster speeds, increased device capacity, and better efficiency.
- Extra 150FT Cable Included: Extended reach for more flexible installation in large spaces or hard-to-access locations.
- High-Speed, Low-Latency Internet: Stream HD content, video conference, or work remotely with confidence.
- Ideal for Rural and Remote Areas: Perfect for homes, cabins, RVs, boats, and off-grid setups where wired internet isn’t available.
That distinction matters when you read a 5G coverage map. Jio’s map describes predicted outdoor coverage and warns that actual wireless coverage varies. A colored map area can therefore be a useful first screen, but it is not a promise that an installer can activate AirFiber at a particular house.
Starlink uses a satellite terminal
Starlink sends data between your terminal and its satellite network. The terminal must see a broad, unobstructed portion of the sky. Trees, neighboring buildings, roof structures and other obstructions can interrupt the connection, even when the service map shows the area as covered.
Starlink’s general setup instructions describe plugging in the equipment and pointing it toward the sky. The exact Indian terminal, mounting options, installation service and subscription bundle still need to be confirmed locally.

Can you get Jio AirFiber at your address?
Use Jio’s address or locality check rather than relying on a national 5G claim. Jio says it connects a home when the service is available in its locality, and its FAQ says availability and installation depend on local feasibility and rollout. The result can differ between nearby streets because of radio conditions, serving-site capacity or installer reach.
- Open the JioAirFiber service page.
- Enter the requested location details and ask for a feasibility result for the exact home.
- Record the offered speed tier, billing type, taxes, installation charge, included equipment and bundled subscriptions.
- Do not treat a general 5G map result as an installation commitment until Jio accepts the address and schedules service.
Is Starlink available in India?
Starlink’s map is also address based. It distinguishes locations that are available from places waiting for coverage or regulatory approval. Geographic satellite visibility, permission to operate in the country and the ability to place a consumer order are separate checks.
On 29 January 2026, the Press Information Bureau reported that Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited received a Department of Telecommunications Unified License authorization for Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite (GMPCS) service. That authorization is evidence of regulatory permission; it does not, by itself, prove that residential orders are open at your address, establish an Indian plan, or set a consumer price. The government statement is at the Press Information Bureau.
Jio Platforms announced on 12 March 2025 that it intended to make Starlink available through its retail outlets and online storefronts. The announcement said the arrangement depended on SpaceX receiving its own Indian authorizations. Read the original announcement at Jio Platforms’ release. An announced distribution plan is not the same as a live residential order page.
Speeds, latency and what the advertised numbers mean
Jio’s 1 Gbps figure is a plan ceiling
Jio says AirFiber can provide speeds up to 1 Gbps, depending on the plan selected. “Up to” describes the highest advertised tier, not a guaranteed speed at every address or at every time of day.

Jio’s Delhi NCR broadband page lists examples of 30 Mbps for ₹399 plus GST and 100 Mbps for ₹699 plus GST. That page combines JioFiber and AirFiber listings, is specific to Delhi NCR and does not establish that either tier is available as AirFiber at your home. Treat those figures as published regional examples, not a nationwide tariff.
Starlink’s figures are model and market specific
Starlink describes its service as high-speed, low-latency internet. Its page also says Starlink Mini has a maximum download speed of more than 200 Mbps. That is a model-specific maximum marketing claim, not a measured speed for every Starlink plan and not an Indian residential tariff.
No matched, independent speed testing at the same Indian locations was identified for these services. You therefore cannot honestly name a universal speed winner. A meaningful comparison uses the exact plan offered at your address, a wired test from the router where possible, and results collected at the times you actually work, study or stream.
How to compare performance without being misled
- Compare like-for-like advertised tiers, not Jio’s maximum tier against Starlink Mini’s model maximum.
- Ask whether the quoted speed is download only, whether an upload figure is supplied, and whether taxes or equipment fees are separate.
- Check whether the provider’s figure is a maximum, a plan rate or a measured result.
- Test during busy evening hours as well as quiet periods after activation.
- For video calls and gaming, evaluate consistency and latency at your address instead of inferring performance from a national map.
Equipment and installation requirements
What Jio AirFiber supplies
Jio’s AirFiber materials show an outdoor device, a Wi-Fi router and a 4K television set-top box. The set-top box and entertainment benefits may be valuable if you want a combined home-internet and TV service, but confirm exactly which items belong to the selected plan.
Jio’s support FAQ says an outdoor unit is installed at a suitable location. It lists a ₹1,000 installation charge and says the charge is waived with an annual plan. The main service page promotes free installation with annual plans. Because the wording and offers can vary by plan or promotion, ask for the written charge and waiver that apply to your address before paying.
What Starlink requires
Starlink requires its terminal, power and a placement with an unobstructed sky view. The provider’s general page describes a plug-in setup and sky pointing. A roof or pole location may be necessary if trees or buildings block the terminal, but the current Indian hardware price, mounting bundle and whether professional installation is offered are not established in the available official material.
The same general page displays a 30-day trial offer. Do not assume that the trial, hardware bundle, return conditions or any non-Indian price applies to an Indian order until the local checkout or authorized seller states those terms.
Obstruction checks before ordering Starlink
- Stand where the terminal could be installed and look across the entire visible sky, not just toward the horizon.
- Identify trees, parapets, adjacent buildings, water tanks and future construction that could enter the terminal’s view.
- Decide how power and the cable would reach the indoor router location.
- Ask the seller whether the proposed mount, cable length and weatherproofing are included or extra.
- Confirm the return policy before committing if the only possible mounting position has marginal sky visibility.
Costs in India: what is known and what is not
| Cost item | Jio AirFiber | Starlink |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly service | Delhi NCR page examples: ₹399 plus GST for 30 Mbps and ₹699 plus GST for 100 Mbps; page combines Fiber and AirFiber and is not a universal quote | Current Indian residential price not stated in the official sources available here |
| Installation | FAQ lists ₹1,000, waived with an annual plan; service page also promotes free annual-plan installation | Indian installation price and availability not stated |
| Hardware | Outdoor unit, Wi-Fi router and 4K set-top box shown in Jio materials; confirm ownership, deposit and replacement terms | Indian terminal and accessory price not stated |
| Taxes | Jio’s regional page says GST is additional on applicable components | Indian tax treatment not established in the reviewed information |
| Trial or cancellation | Terms depend on the selected Jio plan | General Starlink page shows a 30-day trial; local applicability must be confirmed |
There is not enough evidence to declare a price winner. Before comparing totals, request the first-year amount, recurring monthly charge, GST, installation, hardware deposit or purchase, annual-plan commitment, delivery, mounting and cancellation fees. A lower monthly number can cost more if it excludes equipment or requires a longer prepayment.

Which service fits which home?
Choose Jio AirFiber when local feasibility is confirmed
- Jio accepts your address and offers a speed tier that meets your needs.
- You want a conventional indoor Wi-Fi router with an included 4K set-top box or entertainment bundle.
- Your property cannot provide a clear sky view for a satellite terminal.
- The quoted annual or monthly total is clear after GST and installation terms.
Choose Starlink when satellite access solves the location problem
- Jio cannot install AirFiber even though you need broadband at the property.
- Your home has a reliable, unobstructed sky position for the terminal.
- Starlink’s local map allows an order and the Indian checkout states a price, equipment bundle and support terms you accept.
- You value availability outside dense terrestrial network rollouts more than a bundled television service.
Wait or compare further when neither offer is clear
If Jio’s map suggests coverage but the feasibility check fails, ask whether a different mounting position or later rollout changes the result. If Starlink shows geographic coverage but no order path, treat the address as not currently orderable until the provider confirms otherwise. Do not buy imported hardware or sign a long commitment based only on a map color or a press announcement.
A practical address-level comparison checklist
- Check Jio first. Submit the exact address through Jio’s AirFiber channel and save the offered plan name, speed, taxes, installation, equipment and contract terms.
- Check Starlink separately. Enter the same address on the Starlink map and note whether it is available, pending coverage or pending regulatory approval.
- Confirm the physical installation. For Jio, ask where the outdoor unit can be mounted and whether the installer can reach that point. For Starlink, verify a clear sky view, cable route and power outlet.
- Build a first-year cost. Add every recurring charge, GST, installation, hardware or mount, delivery, annual prepayment and cancellation amount.
- Match the workload. Choose a tier based on the number of simultaneous users, cloud backups, video calls and streaming sessions rather than the largest advertised number.
- Get terms in writing. Keep the checkout summary or quotation showing the address, plan, taxes, equipment, installation and any trial or return period.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Confusing national authorization with home availability
A GMPCS authorization confirms a regulatory step for Starlink in India, not that every household can order service. Likewise, Jio’s national 5G presence does not guarantee AirFiber installation at every address.
Reading a map as a service guarantee
Jio’s coverage information is predicted outdoor wireless coverage, while Starlink’s map is an address-level availability indicator with regulatory and commercial distinctions. Both require a final service check.

Comparing maximums from different products
Jio’s “up to 1 Gbps” is plan-dependent. Starlink Mini’s “more than 200 Mbps” is a model-specific maximum. Neither number is a matched test of the service you will receive.
Ignoring installation and obstruction costs
A Jio annual plan may waive the stated ₹1,000 installation charge, while a Starlink installation may require a mount or a more difficult roof location. Include those practical costs before deciding.
Assuming a corporate announcement is a live offer
Jio Platforms’ 12 March 2025 distribution announcement described an intended arrangement subject to SpaceX’s Indian authorizations. Use the current address-level order flow, not the announcement date, to determine whether you can buy service now.
Bottom line
Jio AirFiber is the clearer near-term comparison when Jio confirms your address and gives you a complete Indian quote: its network type, equipment and regional plan examples are documented, although availability and pricing remain local. Starlink is the more relevant alternative where terrestrial fixed-wireless service cannot reach the property and a clear sky view is possible, but its Indian residential price, hardware bundle and orderability must be confirmed before you can compare value. There is no evidence here for a universal speed, reliability or price winner; make the decision from the two written offers for the same address.
