There is no nationwide winner. Choose the service that works at your exact address after checking indoor 5G reception, Starlink’s view of the sky, evening performance and the complete contract cost. A confirmed, strong 5G signal is usually the simpler option. Starlink is the more practical candidate where mobile broadband is weak or unavailable, provided the dish can see enough open sky. Check fiber availability before treating these as your only choices.
This guide reflects Spanish offers and coverage information available on 17 October 2026. Prices, eligibility and network conditions can change, so use the provider’s address checker and read the checkout terms before ordering.
Why your address matters more than the technology label
“5G” and “satellite” describe the access network, not the connection you will actually experience in your home. A nearby 5G site can deliver excellent service outdoors but weak indoor reception because of distance, building materials, terrain or network loading. Starlink can work in a remote village yet fail at a house surrounded by trees, a steep roofline or neighboring buildings that block the satellite view.
Spain’s Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Public Service reported 99.27% national 5G population coverage and 96% rural 5G population coverage in its 2026 release using 2025 data. Those are population figures, not a promise that a particular room receives a usable signal. The ministry’s public coverage map represents service areas on a grid with a resolution of at least 50 × 50 metres, so it is a screening tool rather than a household-level guarantee.

For a sound decision, establish four facts in this order:
- Whether each provider accepts your exact address.
- What performance is available where you will place the router or dish, especially during the evening.
- What you will pay after introductory pricing, including equipment, activation and exit charges.
- Whether the installation constraints fit your property and daily use.
Check availability at the exact Spanish address
1. Use the government map as a first filter
Locate the property on the ministry’s broadband coverage map and note the reported mobile technologies. Because the map uses cells of at least 50 × 50 metres, do not interpret a colored square as proof that every room, floor or neighboring plot has the same signal. It is useful for spotting obvious gaps and for comparing rural and urban context.
2. Run every provider’s address checker
Enter the habitual installation address on the relevant 5G home-internet pages. Address qualification can differ between operators even when their mobile coverage maps look similar. Orange states that it checks coverage for the habitual address during signup; its terms also advise checking indoor coverage before taking the service to another location. Movistar and Vodafone likewise make service availability dependent on coverage and address conditions.
3. Test indoors, not just at the front door
If a provider offers a trial, use it in the room where the router will remain. Otherwise, test with a compatible 5G phone and a local SIM from the intended operator at several points in the home. Record download, upload, latency and packet stability at morning, afternoon and the busy evening period. A strong outdoor reading does not prove that a wall-mounted or ground-floor router will perform equally well.
4. Check Starlink’s sky view before ordering hardware
Starlink requires an unobstructed view of the sky. Use its obstruction-checking process from the proposed terminal position, not from an easier location that would require impractical cabling. Consider trees that will grow, chimneys, roof ridges and neighboring construction. If the best position is on a roof or wall, determine whether you need an additional mount and a safe cable route.
5. Check fiber before choosing either wireless option
Fiber may be available even when a mobile operator advertises 5G as an alternative to fixed broadband. Ask each fixed-line provider to qualify the address. Fiber can change the decision because it is not affected by the radio and sky-view limitations discussed below.
Current 5G home-internet offers in Spain
The following offers illustrate the commercial differences. They are not guarantees of the speeds at your home, and provider pages can change after this article’s publication.
| Service | Advertised access and price | Equipment and commitment | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Movistar Hogar Conectado 5G | 4G/5G home internet advertised up to 1 Gbps; €30 per month standard price. A €19.90 promotion ended on 14 September 2026 and is therefore expired. | Router included; the page states no permanence. | Address-qualified and dependent on coverage; presented as an option where fiber is unavailable. |
| Orange 5G en casa | Unlimited 5G data; €3 for each day the service is switched on, capped at €33 in a month; €20 activation charge. | Loaned router. The described router-loan arrangement has 12-month permanence; other cases may have no permanence. | Orange checks the habitual address during signup and advises verifying indoor coverage before using it elsewhere. Read the applicable terms at checkout. |
| Vodafone Internet Portátil 5G | Up to 1 Gbps on 5G or up to 150 Mbps on 4G, subject to coverage and network conditions. €20 per month for the first 12 months, then €30 per month. | 5G router charged at €1 per month for 36 months, with ownership after the payments; 12-month service commitment. Early cancellation charge is capped at €70. | Actual speed depends on coverage, radio conditions and network load. |
How to read the 5G prices
- Movistar’s €30 figure is the standard monthly price, not the expired €19.90 promotion.
- Orange’s daily billing can be useful for a seasonal or intermittent home, but the €33 monthly cap, activation fee and router-return or permanence terms determine the real cost.
- Vodafone’s first-year price excludes the separate €1 monthly router payment shown for 36 months. Include both when calculating the first-year total.
- An advertised maximum such as 1 Gbps is a ceiling under suitable conditions. It is not equivalent to a guaranteed throughput at your address.
What Starlink offers in Spain
Reported residential plans
A Spanish report dated 18 March 2026 described three residential tiers: Residential 100 at €29 per month, Residential 200 at €39 per month and Residential Max at €59 per month. The report said Residential 100 is capped at 100 Mbps download with 15–35 Mbps upload, Residential 200 offers up to 200 Mbps, and Residential Max exceeds 400 Mbps with traffic priority.
Those Spanish prices and plan details come from a dated secondary report rather than a verified official Spanish order page. Treat them as a guide only: confirm the live plan name, price, hardware charge, availability and any data or priority policy after entering your address. Do not assume that the reported caps apply to every current checkout.

General performance guidance
Starlink’s general service specification gives typical land-service ranges of 25–220 Mbps download, 5–20 Mbps upload and 25–60 milliseconds latency. Remote locations can have higher latency. Starlink says actual speed and uninterrupted service are not guaranteed, and high usage can reduce performance. These are global typical ranges, not a prediction for a particular Spanish property and not a like-for-like measurement against a 5G maximum.
Hardware and installation
The residential service is designed for self-installation. The Standard kit sheet lists the terminal, a Gen 3 Wi‑Fi 6 router, power supply, stand and cables. The router is specified for indoor use and has two Ethernet ports. Whether you need a separate roof or wall mount, longer cabling or professional installation depends on the property and the obstruction result.

A good Wi‑Fi position inside the house is a separate decision from the terminal’s outdoor position; use Ethernet for a fixed workstation or access point if the layout makes wireless coverage difficult.
Performance: compare measurements, not slogans
| Measure | 5G home internet | Starlink | What to verify at your address |
|---|---|---|---|
| Download | Plans reviewed advertise up to 1 Gbps on 5G, but coverage and network load determine the result. | General typical range 25–220 Mbps; reported Spanish tiers describe caps or targets up to 100, 200 or over 400 Mbps. | Run wired or close-range tests in the evening as well as off-peak. |
| Upload | Provider pages in the reviewed offers do not establish a household upload rate. | General typical range 5–20 Mbps; the reported Residential 100 tier says 15–35 Mbps upload. | Measure large-file uploads, cloud backup and video-call stability. |
| Latency | Can be low when the radio link and local network are strong; no address-specific value is promised by these offers. | Typical land latency 25–60 ms, with higher values possible in remote locations. | Check median latency, spikes and packet loss, not one speed-test result. |
| Consistency | Indoor signal, cell congestion, building materials and weather-independent radio conditions affect stability. | Obstructions, weather, satellite conditions and high usage can affect availability or speed. | Run repeated tests at the same location and during the busiest hours. |
Remote work and video calls
Upload capacity and packet stability matter as much as download speed. A connection that briefly reaches a high download maximum can still produce frozen video or robotic audio if latency spikes or packets are lost. Test a real call while another household member uploads a file, rather than relying only on an idle speed test.
Gaming
Competitive games are sensitive to latency variation and packet loss. Measure ping to the game services you actually use at peak time. Starlink’s stated typical latency can be adequate for many games, but its range is not a guarantee and remote locations may be higher. A lightly loaded 5G connection may feel better; a congested cell may not.
Streaming and several simultaneous users
Streaming mainly requires sustained download capacity. Multiple 4K streams, cloud backups, updates and video calls at once expose the difference between a lightly loaded connection and one that slows in the evening. Test the household’s real combination of activities and check whether the selected plan has any traffic-priority or usage policy.

Build a 12- and 36-month total for each eligible option. Include:
- Standard monthly price after any introductory period.
- Activation or signup charges, such as Orange’s €20 fee.
- Router payments, ownership conditions and return obligations.
- Mounts, cabling or installation required for a Starlink placement.
- Minimum term and the maximum early-cancellation charge.
- Any service or hardware price shown only after entering the address.
For Vodafone, the advertised €20 monthly service price applies for 12 months, then €30, while the router is listed at €1 per month for 36 months. For Orange, a month in which the service is on every day reaches the €33 cap, but a rarely used connection may incur only the €3 daily charges plus the activation fee. For Movistar, use the €30 standard price because the €19.90 offer ended on 14 September 2026. For Starlink, verify the live Spanish checkout rather than treating the March 2026 report’s €29, €39 and €59 figures as current guarantees.
A fair address-level comparison procedure
- Write down the use case. Record the number of residents, typical simultaneous streams, work-call schedule, gaming needs, required upload volume and whether the service must move between homes.
- Qualify fiber first. Keep a fiber offer in the comparison if it is available; it may remove the constraints that make 5G or satellite attractive.
- Check 5G eligibility. Run the address checkers for Movistar, Orange and Vodafone, noting the exact plan, router terms and commitment shown at checkout.
- Measure indoors. At the intended router location, test morning, afternoon and evening download, upload, latency and packet loss. Repeat with another device or a wired connection where possible.
- Inspect the Starlink site. Use the obstruction check at the proposed terminal position and plan the cable route, mount and power arrangement.
- Confirm Starlink checkout details. Enter the address to verify service availability, current plan pricing, equipment charges, delivery and any applicable policy.
- Compare like with like. Put evening measured results beside the complete recurring and one-time costs. Do not compare a provider’s 1 Gbps maximum with Starlink’s typical range as though they were laboratory results from the same test.
- Choose the lowest-risk option. Prefer the service with demonstrated peak-time stability, adequate upload and latency, a workable installation and terms you can exit without an unacceptable charge.
Which option fits common Spanish address types?
Urban apartment with strong indoor 5G
A qualified 5G plan is usually the simpler choice when tests at the intended router position remain stable in the evening. It avoids installing an outdoor terminal and may have lower or clearer equipment costs. Check apartment rules before placing any external equipment, and do not infer indoor performance from a street-level map.

Rural house with weak mobile service
Starlink deserves priority if the property has a clear sky view and the address qualifies. Its self-install design can bypass a distant or congested cell. Budget for a suitable mount and cable route, and measure latency expectations carefully if work applications or gaming are important.

Seasonal or intermittently occupied property
Orange’s €3-per-day structure, capped at €33 per month, may be worth comparing with fixed monthly plans when the service can be switched off between visits. Verify whether the router-loan arrangement creates a 12-month permanence and how equipment must be returned.
Home with heavy uploads
Neither the 5G offer pages nor Starlink’s generic figures establish a guaranteed upload rate for your address. Make upload testing decisive: cloud backups, large media files and live video can require more sustained upstream capacity than casual browsing.
Household that needs portability
Provider terms may restrict use to the habitual address, and Orange specifically advises checking indoor coverage before taking its service elsewhere. Confirm portability rules in writing before choosing a plan for multiple locations. Starlink’s address, service-plan and installation conditions must likewise be checked at checkout.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Mistake: treating national coverage as a home guarantee
The 99.27% national and 96% rural figures describe population coverage. Use the ministry map only to narrow the search, then rely on address qualification and indoor measurements.
Mistake: testing only once
A single midday speed test can hide evening congestion. Repeat tests at consistent times and record latency variation and packet loss.
Mistake: ignoring the room where the router will sit
Moving a 5G router from a window to an interior room can change reception substantially. Test the actual installation point and use Ethernet or an access point if Wi‑Fi distribution, rather than the access link, is the bottleneck.
Mistake: assuming Starlink works anywhere with a dish
An obstructed sky view can cause interruptions even when the service is available at the address. Check the complete view and plan for seasonal vegetation, roof edges and safe mounting.
Mistake: comparing promotional prices indefinitely
Separate introductory and standard rates, add equipment and activation charges, and calculate the cost after the promotion. Vodafone’s price changes after 12 months; Movistar’s €19.90 offer has already expired.
Mistake: overlooking contract exposure
Orange’s permanence depends on the applicable router arrangement, Vodafone lists a 12-month commitment and an early-cancellation charge capped at €70, while Movistar’s page states no permanence. Confirm the exact terms presented for your address and selected equipment before accepting.
