After you accept your spouse’s offer, your child arrives 14 in-game days later. The uncertain part is how long it takes for that offer to appear: for an eligible NPC-spouse event, the chance is approximately 5% each eligible night, so there is no guaranteed schedule from marriage to the prompt.
How the child-arrival timeline works
| Stage | Timing | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Waiting for an NPC spouse to ask | Random; approximately 5% chance per eligible night | Eligibility conditions must be met. A chance each night does not guarantee an offer within a set number of days. |
| After accepting the offer | 14 in-game days | The child is born or delivered after this wait. |
| Adoption | 14 in-game days after acceptance | The stated wait is the same as for a biological child. |
| From arrival through the first three child stages | 56 in-game days | 14 days sleeping as a baby, 14 days standing in the crib, then 28 days crawling; the child then becomes a toddler and does not grow further. |
The figures are gameplay mechanics described by the community-maintained Children and Random Events pages, accessed October 7, 2026. They are not an exhaustive comparison across game versions or platforms.

What must be true for an NPC spouse to ask?
For the NPC-spouse overnight event, meet the following conditions:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- You have been married for at least seven days.
- Your relationship with your spouse is at least 10 hearts.
- Your farmhouse has the second upgrade, which adds a nursery, and the crib is still present.
- You sleep at home so the overnight event can be checked.
Removing the crib prevents new children until you replace it. Once these conditions are met, the offer is still random. If you decline, the event can be checked again on later nights when you remain eligible.

How adoption and multiplayer work
Adoption
Same-gender couples adopt, while opposite-gender couples have biological children. The stated 14-day wait begins after you accept the offer in either case. During adoption, your spouse says that the paperwork has been filed.
Multiplayer
In multiplayer, the eligibility and consent checks differ from the NPC-spouse checklist. According to the Multiplayer page, the eligible home must belong to one of the married players, have the nursery upgrade, and have fewer than two children. Both players must sleep in that home’s bed. One player is selected to propose, and both players must accept; arrival then follows the same 14-day wait.
Why hasn’t your spouse asked yet?
Check the eligibility conditions before assuming the event is simply taking longer than expected:
Recommended Free Tools
- Verify the second farmhouse upgrade added the nursery.
- Make sure the crib has not been removed.
- Confirm your spouse relationship is at least 10 hearts.
- Check that at least seven days have passed since the wedding.
- Sleep at home to allow the NPC-spouse event check.
- If you are playing multiplayer, check that both players sleep in the eligible home’s bed and that the home has fewer than two children.
Even when every condition is met, an approximately 5% chance on an eligible night can mean waiting many nights; it is not a promise that the offer will arrive after a particular number of attempts.

How long until the child grows?
The first three stages last 56 days in total after the child arrives: 14 days sleeping as a baby, 14 days standing in the crib, and 28 days crawling around the house. The child then becomes a toddler and does not grow beyond that stage. These 56 days begin after arrival, so they are separate from the 14-day wait between accepting the offer and the child’s arrival. Details are listed on the community-maintained Children page.
