Is the Starbucks Rewards Visa still available?
That is not established by the available official information. Starbucks’ card page includes an application prompt and says Chase issues the card, but a prompt on a webpage does not confirm that Chase is accepting new applications. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) database contains filed Chase agreements for the Starbucks Rewards Visa, but an agreement on file likewise does not establish that the card is currently open to new applicants. Check directly with Chase for current application status and terms before acting: Starbucks’ card page and the CFPB credit-card agreement database.
If you already have the card, use your current account disclosures or contact Chase to confirm the fee, APR, and benefits that apply to your account. The filed agreement is evidence of terms in that document, not a live personalized offer or proof that every existing account has identical pricing.

What fees and interest does the filed agreement list?
The Chase Bank USA, N.A. Starbucks Rewards Visa Signature agreement filed in the CFPB collection lists a $49 annual membership fee, a variable purchase APR of 17.49%–21.49%, and a 3% foreign transaction fee. The agreement figures were accessed October 7, 2026; they are not a current quote for a new application or a guarantee of the terms on a legacy account. Interest can quickly outweigh rewards. If you carry a purchase balance, compare the interest cost with the value of the Starbucks rewards you can actually use; do not treat Stars as cash or assume a fixed dollar value. The filed agreement also includes balance-transfer, cash-advance, and penalty-fee terms, so check the applicable disclosures before using those features.
How do Starbucks Stars work under current rules?
Starbucks’ U.S. Rewards Terms of Use, effective March 10, 2026, describe a three-level program: Green, Gold, and Reserve. Members qualify for Gold after earning 500 Stars during the applicable 12-month period; Reserve requires 2,500 new Stars during the applicable period after reaching Gold. The terms include timing and status-maintenance conditions, and Starbucks reserves the right to change levels, thresholds, benefits, and program rules. Earning depends on the transaction and payment method
Current terms allow Stars for qualifying purchases at participating U.S. locations using eligible methods, including a Starbucks Card, a linked payment method, or scanning a member barcode and paying with an accepted method. Promotions and partner programs may also qualify. The rate depends on membership level and transaction conditions; the current terms do not establish a card-specific earn rate for this Visa. Do not rely on historical card promotions or earning rates as though they are current.
Some transactions do not qualify. The terms exclude, among other things, alcohol, Starbucks Card purchases or reloads in the general case, guest checkouts, certain delivery or beta programs, taxes, tips, and fees. Earning and redemption availability also varies by participating store. Check whether your usual purchase locations and payment habits qualify before estimating how many Stars you would earn.

Stars are not cash
Starbucks states that Stars are promotional rewards with no cash value and cannot be redeemed for cash; redemption is limited to eligible rewards at participating stores, with exclusions. Green Stars generally expire after six months unless account activity extends them under the stated rules. Gold and Reserve Stars do not expire while the member maintains the corresponding status, subject to the terms and exceptions. These are loyalty-program rules, not a special guarantee tied to this credit card.

There is no reliable break-even calculation without a verified current card earning schedule and the value you personally get from eligible Star redemptions. Compare the $49 fee listed in the filed agreement with rewards you can consistently earn and use—not with an assumed cash value for Stars. If you cannot confirm the card’s current benefits or reliably redeem Stars at participating stores, the fee is difficult to justify on rewards alone.

Starbucks Rewards membership itself has no participation or membership fee, according to Starbucks’ current terms. That is separate from the credit card’s listed annual fee. If the card is unavailable, unsuitable, or not worth its fee to you, you can still use Starbucks Rewards without this credit account.

Who might keep it, and who should look elsewhere?
- It may suit an existing cardholder who confirms favorable current account terms, regularly makes qualifying purchases, can use eligible Star redemptions, and pays the statement balance in full.
- It is a poor fit for someone who carries a balance because interest can exceed the value of rewards earned.
- It may not suit infrequent Starbucks customers or people whose usual transactions, locations, or payment methods do not qualify for Stars.
- It may not suit international spend if the account is subject to the agreement’s listed 3% foreign transaction fee.
- Someone comparing cards should weigh this account against using Starbucks Rewards without a credit card or a no-annual-fee general rewards card. No alternative can be called best without comparing current offers and the reader’s spending needs.
What to verify before applying or keeping the account
- Ask Chase directly whether new applications are being accepted, or confirm the status of your existing account.
- Read the current account-specific disclosures for the annual fee, APR, foreign transaction fee, and any other charges.
- Confirm whether a current card-specific earning schedule, welcome offer, or eligibility rule exists; do not rely on old promotional terms.
- Use Starbucks’ live Rewards terms to check eligible purchases, payment methods, participating locations, Star expiration, status conditions, and redemption exclusions.
- Estimate value using rewards you expect to redeem, then compare that with the fee and any borrowing or foreign-use costs.
