In STAR WARS Zero Company, a specialization defines an operator’s combat role and abilities; a Weapon Class separately affects how their weapon performs. Electronic Arts’ current guide lists eight specializations—Assault, Gunslinger, Heavy, Medic, Scoundrel, Scout, Sharpshooter, and Soldier—and says operators can choose an additional specialization later. The best pick depends on the job your squad needs, not a universal class ranking.
Electronic Arts’ Specialization and Weapon Class guide describes each specialization as a distinct combat role with its own active and passive abilities. The guide lists the eight options below; it does not establish whether that list includes every exotic or character-restricted specialization in the full game.
What does each specialization do?
Assault: mobile frontline pressure
Assault operators are built to advance at medium-to-close range and disrupt enemies in cover. Sweeping Salvo fires a cone-shaped barrage that damages and disorients targets; Bull Rush charges an enemy, dealing melee damage and pushing them. Passives improve the operator’s first movement and critical damage against exposed targets. Choose Assault to pressure defensive positions and keep moving.

Gunslinger: fast attacks across multiple targets
Gunslingers specialize in rapid blaster attacks. Open Fire allows two shots in one turn against any combination of enemies. Quick Draw delivers a fast sidearm shot and restores one AP if it defeats its target. Passives improve ranged critical damage and raise the damage of successive primary blaster attacks in a turn. The role rewards active turns and careful target selection.

Heavy: durable frontline tank
Heavy operators use armor and defensive abilities to draw attacks and hold ground. Bulwark taunts nearby enemies and improves defense for the turn. Unstoppable grants retaliation against the next two attacks. Passives increase maximum health and defense, and let primary blaster hits taunt enemies. Pick Heavy when the squad needs a resilient operator who can absorb pressure.
Medic: healing and recovery
Medics sustain the squad and help prevent injuries. Morale Boost gives the operator and nearby allies healing over time, while Combat Stim increases an ally’s health and melee and ranged damage for two turns. The specialization improves Medpac healing and provides an inbuilt Medpac without taking a utility slot. Its Rally ability lets rescued allies return fully healed. One limitation: Medpacs cannot be used on droids.

Scoundrel: attack setup and assists
Scoundrels create openings for coordinated attacks. Easy Mark lets the next ally who attacks a marked enemy assist. Identify Weakness makes an enemy Vulnerable, ensuring the next damaging attack is a critical hit. Passives improve assist damage and defense penetration. Choose Scoundrel to help allies turn an opening into a high-value strike.

Scouts gather information and help the squad act on it. Combat Recon surveys an area and grants Advantage for each enemy detected. Ambush spends Advantage on a surprise attack, with more Advantage increasing its damage. Passives can generate Advantage after a kill and mark enemies so allies avoid the usual range and smoke hit penalties. Scout is the information and shared-resource support role.

Zero In sets a firing position and builds accuracy and critical-damage bonuses, but those bonuses are lost if the operator moves or is displaced. Passives improve Overwatch accuracy and damage and increase blaster hit chance. This role suits deliberate positioning and a protected firing lane.
Soldier: versatile close-to-medium combat
Soldiers combine melee attacks, grenades, heavy blaster fire, and a rocket launcher. Rocket Strike deals area damage on impact; Brutal Strike rushes an enemy and dazes them. Passives improve melee damage, grenade throw distance, primary blaster damage, and grenade damage. EA presents Soldier as a straightforward all-rounder.

How should you choose a specialization?
Start with the gap in your squad, then match it to the tactics you want to use. EA’s guide frames these as different roles, not a ranking of the strongest classes.

|---|---|
| Mobile close-range pressure against enemy positions | Assault |

If you are new to the game, Soldier is EA’s suggested all-rounder. That makes it a reasonable starting point if you want several kinds of offense in one role; choose a more focused specialization if you already know your squad needs healing, protection, precision, or setup support.

How is a Weapon Class different?
Specialization determines an operator’s role and abilities. Weapon Class is a separate choice that changes weapon performance, including damage, critical damage and chance, range, and AP cost. A recommended pairing is a suggestion, not a required build.
| Weapon Class | EA’s suggested specialization pairing | Why it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Blaster Rifle | Soldier or Assault | A straightforward learning curve |
| Repeater | Gunslinger, Soldier, or Heavy | Offensive pressure |
| Longarm Blaster | Sharpshooter | Long-range precision |
Because operators can take an additional specialization later, the system allows role combinations over the course of the game. The guide does not identify one universally best specialization-and-weapon build for every squad.
