EA’s published targets are 1080p at 30 frames per second on Low for minimum hardware, and 1440p at 60 frames per second on High for recommended hardware. The recommended tier also doubles memory from 16 GB to 32 GB and calls for substantially faster processors and graphics cards. These are target specifications, not guarantees that every system will deliver a fixed frame rate.

Star Wars Zero Company is now available on PC through the EA app, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. EA says the game launched worldwide on August 27, 2026. This guide explains how to compare your computer with EA’s requirements, which settings EA recommends, and what to check when you see stutter or a low frame rate.

EA’s official PC requirements at a glance

The resolution, frame-rate target, and graphics preset belong together. A graphics card that looks adequate in isolation may still fall short if the processor, system memory, operating system, or storage requirement is not met.

How to tell which tier your PC meets

Compare every row, not just the GPU. A computer can have a graphics card near the recommended level but still miss the recommended CPU or 32 GB memory requirement. Conversely, meeting the minimum list does not mean that every visual option will run smoothly.

Check Windows, CPU, RAM, and DirectX with DxDiag

  1. Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
  2. Enter dxdiag and press Enter. If Windows asks whether to check driver signatures, choose the option that allows the diagnostic tool to open.
  3. On the System tab, read the operating-system edition and whether it is 64-bit, the processor model, installed memory, and DirectX version.
  4. Open the Display tab to identify the graphics card and review its driver information.

Use the exact model names when comparing with EA’s table. “16 GB installed” and “32 GB installed” are the relevant memory checkpoints; do not treat available virtual memory as a substitute for physical RAM.

Check free storage in File Explorer

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Select This PC.
  3. Look at the free-space figure for the drive where you plan to install the game.

EA lists 50 GB of available storage for both tiers. Keep that amount free on the installation drive before starting the installation; the requirement is not a statement that a drive with less free space will install successfully.

What the minimum specification means in practice

The minimum tier describes 1080p, 30 FPS, and Low settings. It does not describe 1440p play, High settings, or a guaranteed constant 30 FPS in every part of the game. EA explicitly cautions that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee that every graphics setting will run smoothly.

If your processor, graphics card, or memory is below the listed minimum, performance can be unpredictable and settings changes may not compensate for the missing capability. If your parts meet the minimum closely, begin with the Low preset and the 1080p target rather than starting at a higher resolution and trying to recover performance afterward.

What the recommended specification means in practice

The recommended tier raises the target to 2560×1440 at 60 FPS on High. It also moves from 16 GB to 32 GB of RAM, from the Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600X class to the Core i7-10700K or Ryzen 7 3700X class, and from the GTX 1080, RX 5600 XT, or Arc B580 class to an RTX 3080 or RX 7800 XT.

Those parts define EA’s recommended target; they do not establish a universal frame-rate result for every system using the same model. Cooling, background applications, driver versions, game updates, and the particular scene can all affect observed performance. Treat 1440p/60 on High as the goal EA associates with the list, not as a laboratory guarantee.

Why changing one setting may not transform performance

EA says that, during development validation, it found Star Wars Zero Company to be more CPU-bound. In a CPU-bound game, the processor and the work it must complete each frame can limit performance before the graphics card is fully occupied. As a result, changing one graphics option may have a smaller effect on frame rate than it would in a game dominated by GPU rendering.

  • Pilot the Millennium Falcon, X-wings, TIE fighters, and more of your favorite vehicles in exhilarating aerial combat

EA says it did not emphasize Ultra-setting specifications for this reason. The absence of an Ultra requirement is not a recommendation to use Ultra on a minimum or recommended machine; it reflects the way EA characterized the game’s performance constraints.

EA’s recommended upscaling path for 1440p/60

For the recommended 1440p/60 target, EA says the game’s recommended default is TSR or a vendor upscaler such as DLSS or FSR. These technologies render internally at a lower resolution and reconstruct the output at the selected display resolution, reducing the amount of work required for the final image.

How to choose among the listed options

  • TSR: Use the game’s recommended default when you want the in-game temporal reconstruction option.
  • DLSS or FSR: If your hardware and game installation expose one of these vendor upscalers, select it and evaluate image quality and smoothness at your target resolution.
  • Native rendering: If you disable upscaling, the system must render the selected resolution directly. That can increase the workload, so compare frame pacing rather than assuming native resolution is faster.

EA does not identify one individual setting as the universal largest performance gain. Because it describes the game as more CPU-bound, the effect of an upscaler or another graphics option can vary with your processor, graphics card, resolution, and scene.

A practical troubleshooting sequence for low FPS or stutter

Follow the checks in order. This prevents spending time tuning graphics settings when the computer does not actually match the published target.

1. Compare the complete specification

Use the table above and your DxDiag results to check the operating system, CPU, GPU, RAM, DirectX 12, and 50 GB of free storage. Record the exact model of each component. If one item is below minimum, do not interpret a successful launch as proof that the system can sustain the minimum target.

2. Update the graphics driver

EA’s initial advice is to make sure your graphics driver is current. Obtain the current driver from the manufacturer of your GPU, install it according to that manufacturer’s instructions, and restart Windows if requested. Recheck the game after the update before making several setting changes at once.

3. Try TSR, DLSS, or FSR at the recommended target

If your computer is near the recommended tier and you are aiming for 1440p/60, select TSR or an available DLSS or FSR option. Test the same location or activity after changing one option so you can tell whether frame pacing and image clarity improved. There is no EA-published universal multiplier for the gain, so judge the result on your own hardware.

4. Reduce resolution or graphics quality near the minimum tier

When a system is close to the minimum specification and performance remains poor, EA advises lowering the resolution or graphics settings. Move toward the 1080p/Low target first. Lowering resolution reduces the number of pixels the GPU must process; lowering quality options reduces other rendering work. If the processor is the limiting part, these changes may provide only a modest improvement, which is consistent with EA’s CPU-bound assessment.

5. Change one variable at a time

Apply a single change, play long enough to encounter the problem area, and note the result. Changing resolution, upscaling, preset, and several individual options simultaneously makes it impossible to identify which adjustment helped or harmed performance. Keep a record of the setting that produced the clearest image without the stutter you are trying to remove.

Common diagnosis mistakes

Looking only at the graphics card

The two EA tiers differ in CPU, GPU, and memory, and EA characterizes the game as more CPU-bound. A GPU-only comparison can therefore misclassify a system. Check the processor and RAM before deciding that a graphics setting is the sole cause of poor performance.

Treating the recommended list as a guarantee

The recommended list is tied to EA’s 1440p/60 High target. It is not an independent benchmark, and it does not promise that every scene, driver version, or background workload will hold exactly 60 FPS. Use it as a planning baseline.

Assuming minimum hardware supports every preset

EA’s minimum target is Low at 1080p/30. The support guidance specifically warns that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee smooth operation of every graphics setting. Higher presets and resolutions require testing rather than assumption.

Ignoring storage and DirectX

A suitable CPU and GPU do not replace the 64-bit Windows and DirectX 12 requirements. Confirm that the installation drive has 50 GB free and that DxDiag reports the expected DirectX version.

Display and control compatibility

EA confirms support for 21:9 ultrawide monitors. The game is mostly playable with Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 controllers, while some text entry still requires a keyboard. On PC, controls can be remapped for both a controller and mouse-and-keyboard input. A controller is therefore optional, not a prerequisite.

The game is a single-player, turn-based tactics title. Its PC release is available through the EA app, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. EA says the Steam edition does not require the EA app launcher, which is useful if you are choosing a storefront based on launcher requirements.

How to use the requirements when deciding whether to play

  1. At or above minimum on all rows: Start at 1080p, Low, and 30 FPS as the realistic EA-defined baseline. Keep drivers current and lower resolution or quality if performance is poor.
  2. Between the tiers: Expect to tune resolution, preset, and upscaling. Do not assume that a GPU between the listed classes will deliver the recommended 1440p/60 target, especially if the CPU or RAM is closer to minimum.
  3. At or above recommended on all rows: Begin with High at 1440p and EA’s TSR, DLSS, or FSR recommendation. If stutter persists, verify drivers and investigate CPU, memory, and background-load issues before assuming a single graphics option is responsible.

EA’s specifications are most useful as a complete checklist: resolution and frame-rate target, preset, processor, graphics card, memory, operating system, DirectX, and free space all matter. Use DxDiag and File Explorer to verify the computer, then apply the upscaling or fallback settings that match the tier you can actually support.
