Choose Star Wars: Galactic Racer for a modern, runs-based campaign that spans several kinds of craft; choose Star Wars: Episode I: Racer for focused podracing drawn from The Phantom Menace; treat Star Wars: Racer Revenge as the older sequel whose detailed mechanics and current availability need separate verification. The three games represent different eras and formats rather than three editions of the same design.

What makes Galactic Racer different?

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is the broadest of the three concepts. It launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Instead of limiting the game to one race type, the official descriptions place four craft classes in the same overall racing universe: landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders and podracers. That variety is the central reason to pick it over the two older, podracing-focused games.

A runs-based campaign

The campaign follows Shade, a racer pursuing glory and revenge in the Galactic League. Its structure is built around a series of runs. During a run, you choose events and make decisions; some perks and unlocks can carry forward between runs. This makes the campaign a sequence of attempts and consequences rather than a simple, fixed list of races.

The launch announcement names Jakku, Sentinel I, Lantaana, Derven Acos, Ando Prime, Tatooine and Crait as racing locations. Those names indicate a wider galactic route than the single-film setting used by Episode I: Racer, but the official material does not establish that every vehicle class appears on every named location.

#1 Best Overall
Star Wars Galactic Racer - PlayStation 5
  • COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
  • SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
  • BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
  • BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
  • CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.

Craft classes, customization and parts

Each craft category is described as having its own handling style. The official product description also highlights customization and progression between runs. Parts can be earned through runs or purchased from Hibi, the mechanic, and can provide stat boosts and abilities. In practical terms, the game asks you to make two decisions: which vehicle class fits the event and whether a run should be used to earn another part, improve a build or preserve progress for a later attempt.

The cited material does not provide a complete stat list, a fixed number of upgrade tiers or a universal best build. Do not treat one class as objectively superior from the launch descriptions alone; the documented difference is that the classes are intended to handle differently and can be customized.

Other modes and accessibility

Outside the campaign, Galactic Racer has Scenario and Arcade modes. Scenario is useful for players who want defined challenges rather than the campaign’s run structure, while Arcade provides a more direct race-focused option. The official product page lists adjustable difficulty and visual-comfort settings among its accessibility options. Exact settings and their availability can vary by platform or later update, so check the in-game options on the version you own.

Star Wars Galactic Racer: Deluxe Edition - PlayStation 5

Editions and platform scope

The official game site lists physical Standard and Deluxe editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It also lists a Collector’s Edition containing a metal landspeeder model, patches, a physical art book and a steel case. These are edition descriptions, not a guarantee of current stock. Regional listings, retailer inventory and the availability of physical versions can change, and the cited edition listing does not establish equivalent physical packages for PC.

Why Episode I: Racer remains the focused podracing choice

Star Wars: Episode I: Racer is directly based on the podracing sequence in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace. Its scope is narrower than Galactic Racer by design: you race podracers rather than switching among landspeeders, bikes and skimmers.

Racers, worlds and shortcuts

Official 2020 release coverage lists 25 playable racers and tracks across eight worlds. The same description calls out shortcuts, which means route knowledge is part of the documented race format rather than an incidental feature. The number of racers and worlds is historical release information; it should not be read as a promise of ongoing content additions.

Marvel's Wolverine PS5
  • Marvel’s Wolverine is a new action-packed adventure from Insomniac Games
  • Play as Wolverine and Ravage enemies with explosive brutality and unleash razor-sharp adamantium claws to deploy fast, fluid attacks and overcome impossible odds
  • An Original, Emotionally Charged Story. Beneath Wolverine’s gruff exterior and violent temperament is a man fighting for a cause greater than himself
  • A Global, Adrenaline-Fueled Journey where you slice into enemies across detailed locales such as the frosted Canadian Wilderness, the narrow streets of Tokyo, and the high and low districts of the island nation of Madripoor

Pit-droid upgrades

Pit droids handle upgrades for speed and acceleration. The official description identifies those two upgrade areas but does not provide a complete cost table or a maximum level for each one. If you are deciding between this game and Galactic Racer, the important distinction is progression style: Episode I: Racer presents a recognizable pit-droid upgrade loop around podracing, whereas Galactic Racer ties parts, abilities and some unlocks to a run-based campaign.

Race features and the PS4 control update

PlayStation’s release coverage describes drifting, shortcuts, lap records and the ability to bump or attack opponents. Those are claims from the platform’s announcement, not results from independent playtesting. For the PS4 version, Aspyr remapped the controls for the DualShock 4 and added trophies. If you are moving from the original control layout or choosing between releases, the PS4-specific changes are the documented reasons to expect a different controller and achievement experience.

Local multiplayer

The official 2020 announcement confirms split-screen multiplayer on Nintendo Switch and PS4. Switch also supports LAN multiplayer. The cited material does not establish online matchmaking, cross-play or the number of simultaneous players beyond those local modes, so do not assume those features are present.

Step through derelict temples of ancient deities, across forbidden forests and icy graves, into citadels carved out of bone. Scattered between these lost landmarks are more than 60 dungeons, each providing a challenging test of the talents and weaponry you have collected on your journey.
  • DETHRONE FALSE GODS: You control the Harbinger, a being that must reclaim the Undermether’s stolen eggs that are now ruthlessly guarded by grotesque, dangerous creatures. Mortal Shell 2’s combat system is agile and expressive. Stamina gauges are removed, and execution options have been enhanced, delivering a kinetic and chaotic dark power fantasy. Precision meets intensity in high-stakes combat.

What can responsibly be said about Racer Revenge?

Star Wars: Racer Revenge is the earlier sequel referenced in official PlayStation coverage for fans of Episode I: Racer. The available official post does not provide enough detail to compare its handling, event structure, upgrade systems, multiplayer modes or graphics with the other two games without guessing.

Its current purchase options are also not established by the reviewed material. Platform support, storefront listings and regional availability may differ from the original release and from one country to another. Verify those details through a current official platform listing before buying, emulating a purchase decision around a legacy copy or recommending it to someone else.

This limited treatment is intentional: identifying Racer Revenge as the older sequel is supported, but a mechanics-by-mechanics review would go beyond the documented evidence.

Platform and purchase checklist

For Galactic Racer

  • Confirm that your system is PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S or PC; the worldwide launch date was October 6, 2026.
  • On console, compare the Standard, Deluxe and Collector’s Edition descriptions rather than assuming every region carries every package.
  • Check the current regional storefront or retailer page for stock, taxes, language support and any edition-specific contents.
  • If accessibility matters, look for adjustable difficulty and visual-comfort settings in the product information or in-game options.

For Episode I: Racer

  • Choose the Switch or PS4 release if split-screen is important; Switch is the version with officially described LAN multiplayer.
  • On PS4, expect DualShock 4 control remapping and trophies as documented in PlayStation’s release coverage.
  • Remember that the 25-racer, eight-world description comes from the 2020 release announcement and describes that release’s documented content.

For Racer Revenge

  • Find a current official platform or storefront listing before assuming the game is sold digitally or supported on a modern console.
  • Confirm the exact edition and region, because legacy catalog availability can differ substantially.
  • Do not infer its modes, handling or upgrade system from Episode I: Racer; those details are not established in the cited material.

How the three games differ in progression

The progression systems point to three different expectations. Galactic Racer links advancement to runs: event choices, parts, perks and some unlocks can shape what happens in later attempts. Parts may be earned during runs or bought from Hibi, and some provide abilities in addition to statistical improvements.

Episode I: Racer uses a more legible race-team loop. Pit droids improve speed and acceleration, while shortcuts and lap records give you reasons to learn each course. The official description does not state whether every racer shares the same upgrade path or how upgrade prices scale.

For Racer Revenge, no comparable progression description is available in the reviewed official source. Any table that assigns it a specific upgrade model would be speculation.

What the available evidence does not establish

  • There is no documented hands-on comparison here of handling, difficulty, frame rate, load times or overall quality.
  • No source in the cited material provides current prices, player populations, regional stock or a guarantee of future updates.
  • Galactic Racer‘s launch descriptions do not state a multiplayer mode, so its presence or absence should be checked on the current platform listing.
  • Episode I: Racer‘s official coverage confirms local formats but does not, in the cited passages, confirm online matchmaking or cross-play.
  • Racer Revenge‘s specific mechanics and current availability remain unconfirmed by the reviewed official material.

Bottom line: a practical choice

Pick Galactic Racer if you want the newest structure, several vehicle classes and a campaign organized around runs, choices and between-run progression. Pick Episode I: Racer if the appeal is specifically the podracing sequence from The Phantom Menace, with 25 racers, eight worlds, pit-droid upgrades and documented local multiplayer. Consider Racer Revenge only after checking a current official listing and its feature set for your region; the available documentation supports its place as the older sequel, not a detailed modern buying recommendation.

Douglas Reilly, Lucasfilm Games’ vice president and general manager, described Fuse Games this way: “I can’t think of any other studio better suited to bring Star Wars racing back to our fans.” That statement frames Galactic Racer as a return to Star Wars racing, while the comparison above shows how different that return is from the film-specific design of Episode I: Racer.
