Star Wars Genesis is not a standalone game. It is a free, fan-made total-conversion modlist for the PC Steam version of Starfield. It rebuilds Bethesda’s space RPG with Star Wars-inspired factions, planets, ships, weapons, music, enemies, quests, lightsabers and Force abilities. The result comes closer to an open-world Star Wars role-playing sandbox than an ordinary collection of cosmetic mods, but it remains an expanding project with a deliberately limited main story and demanding installation requirements.
What Star Wars Genesis actually is
Creator DeityVengy describes Genesis as a “free, fan-made total conversion project for Starfield.” GamingBible called it a total conversion with a new story, characters and quests, while The Escapist reported that the project combines many mods into a new main questline that includes Force powers.

Genesis is maintained by DeityVengy and incorporates work from other mod authors. In a Nexus Mods interview published on 7 October 2024, DeityVengy said the original list contained about 100 mods before the project adopted Wabbajack automation. He also rewrote more than 5,000 lines of Starborn and non-player-character dialogue for the main-story conversion.

It is not an official Lucasfilm or Electronic Arts release. Its lore is Star Wars-inspired but separate from established canon, giving the team room to reinterpret familiar ideas and add original material.

How much content Genesis has
The official version 8.8.3 guide estimates approximately 20–30 hours of structured story content, followed by another 10–20 hours of progression-focused play. The latter revolves around unique equipment, crafting, exploration, lightsabers and Force abilities.
Story currently included
- Acts 1 and 2 of the main quest.
- Complete Rebel and Imperial questlines.
- Some side quests and additional sandbox activities.
The guide specifically frames Genesis as a short, self-contained narrative paired with an open-ended sandbox, rather than a fully realized, content-complete Star Wars RPG. That distinction matters: you can spend far longer exploring and improving your character, but the central campaign is not yet the equivalent of a full commercial release.
What the conversion changes
The Escapist reported replacements or expansions for weapons, music, enemy artificial intelligence, locations, factions, bosses and quest content, including features made exclusively for Genesis. The project changes the identity of Starfield’s universe rather than simply adding a lightsaber model to the original game.

Planets, species and factions
PC Gamer’s 21 August 2025 report described visiting Tatooine and Mos Eisley and creating characters from species including Rodian, Trandoshan, Duros, Mon Calamari and Gungan. Rebel and Imperial storylines provide the main faction structure, while the world remains open for independent exploration and progression.

Ships and space travel
The modlist adds recognizable ship types and purchasable or flyable craft, including the Millennium Falcon/YT-1300, X-Wings, TIE Fighters and Naboo vessels. These ships support the spacefaring role-playing fantasy that a conventional quest overhaul could not provide on its own.
Lightsabers and the Force
Lightsabers are part of Genesis’s equipment and progression systems, and Force abilities are integrated into the converted quest and combat experience. The project therefore supports a Force-user play style alongside conventional blaster, faction and crafting builds.
Installation requirements and compatibility
Genesis is a technical modlist installation, not a one-click game download. Wabbajack automates much of the process, but you still need to meet every prerequisite and avoid conflicting modifications.

- A legitimate, non-pirated Steam copy of Starfield for PC.
- The paid Shattered Space expansion.
- Starfield version 1.16.244, as specified by the version 8.8.3 guide.
- English language settings.
- A new save created after Genesis is installed.
- No conflicting Creation Store or Vortex mods.
Game Pass and Microsoft versions are excluded by the guide. Existing saves should not be treated as compatible with the converted setup.

Whether you prefer long-range rifles, laser weapons, or demolitions, each weapon type can be modified to complement your playstyle. Zero G environments add a chaotic spectacle to combat, while boost packs give players freedom to maneuver like never before.
Storage and drive requirements
Install both Starfield and Genesis on an internal NVMe SSD. The guide says external SSDs and hard disk drives will not work for this list. Because Wabbajack downloads and configures hundreds of files, keep substantial free space beyond the game’s own installation footprint.
VRAM and optional texture packs
Systems with 6–12 GB of VRAM may experience menu lag. Optional high-definition overhauls can exceed 100 GB of 2K–8K textures and are best attempted with at least 16 GB of VRAM. Those texture packs are optional; the base experience should be judged separately from the maximum-quality configuration.

- Install the Steam version of Starfield and the Shattered Space expansion.
- Update Starfield to version 1.16.244 and set the game language to English.
- Install Wabbajack and sign in to a Nexus Mods account when prompted.
- Select the Star Wars Genesis list and choose an installation folder on an internal NVMe SSD.
- Allow Wabbajack to download and assemble the required mods; a Nexus Mods Premium account can make downloading hundreds of files easier, but it is not described as a Genesis requirement.
- Disable or remove conflicting Creation Store and Vortex modifications.
- Launch the generated profile through the modlist’s supplied Mod Organizer setup.
- Start a new Starfield save rather than loading an earlier character.
Download times and disk-space needs vary with the selected options, connection and existing files. If installation fails, first verify the game version, English setting, Steam ownership, expansion ownership, available NVMe space and account authentication before troubleshooting individual downloads.
Can it run on Steam Deck or ROG Ally?
No. The official guide lists both Steam Deck and ROG Ally as incompatible. Genesis is intended for a Windows gaming PC with fast internal storage and enough graphics memory for its converted assets. A handheld workaround is not presented as supported.

Genesis is the strongest fit for a PC player who already owns Starfield and wants a Star Wars-flavored sandbox more than a finished, linear blockbuster. Its combination of alien character creation, faction campaigns, recognizable ships and Force mechanics delivers the fantasy its premise promises. The trade-off is that you are maintaining a large, evolving modlist rather than buying a polished standalone RPG.
