There is no universally best Star Wars game. Choose Star Wars Jedi: Survivor for a focused, single-player Jedi story; Star Wars Outlaws for open-world exploration as a scoundrel; Star Wars Zero Company for turn-based squad tactics; Star Wars Battlefront II for large multiplayer battles across the cinematic eras; or Star Wars: Squadrons for first-person starfighter combat. Your preferred genre and hardware are better decision guides than any overall ranking.

Quick recommendation by play style

If you want Start with Why it fits
A story-led Jedi action adventure Star Wars Jedi: Survivor A third-person, narratively driven, single-player adventure following Cal Kestis.
Open-world exploration and a scoundrel fantasy Star Wars Outlaws An open-world journey starring Kay Vess and her companion Nix.
Turn-based squad tactics Star Wars Zero Company A single-player tactical game with a customizable squad.
Large-scale shooter battles Star Wars Battlefront II Multiplayer combat spanning all three cinematic eras, plus a single-player story.
First-person space dogfights Star Wars: Squadrons A piloting-focused campaign and multiplayer starfighter combat.

This is a format comparison, not a quality ranking. The official descriptions do not provide a common score or other measure that proves one game is objectively superior to the others.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor: the focused Jedi story

What you play

Jedi: Survivor is a third-person, single-player action adventure built around Cal Kestis. Its story begins five years after Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, making it the direct follow-up for players who want a continuing Jedi narrative rather than an anthology or competitive game.

Electronic Arts describes it as a narratively driven game and says it can stand alone. You therefore do not have to finish Fallen Order first to understand or play the sequel. Playing the earlier game can still provide more context for Cal and the returning storyline, but it is an optional preparation step rather than a requirement.

Who should choose it

  • Players who want a campaign they can experience alone.
  • Anyone looking for lightsaber-focused action and a character-led story instead of matches against other players.
  • Players who prefer a defined adventure to an open-world scoundrel sandbox or a menu-driven tactics campaign.

Platforms and release sequence

EA lists the game for PC through the EA app, Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. It launched first on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2023; the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions followed on September 17, 2024. Check the edition for your console or storefront before purchasing, because the original launch platforms and later last-generation releases are different.

Star Wars Outlaws: open-world life on the fringes

What you play

Outlaws is the clearest choice if your mental image of Star Wars is moving between locations, taking jobs and improvising as a non-Jedi protagonist. Ubisoft presents it as the first open-world Star Wars game, starring Kay Vess and her companion Nix. The official setting falls between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, so it occupies a specific period of the original-trilogy timeline rather than retelling those films.

Who should choose it

  • Players who value exploration and the freedom to approach a Star Wars setting as a scoundrel.
  • Readers asking specifically, “Which Star Wars game is open world?”
  • Anyone who wants a protagonist and companion dynamic distinct from a Jedi apprenticeship story.

Platforms

Ubisoft’s current listings include Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Luna and PC through Ubisoft Store, Epic Games Store and Steam. Storefront and regional availability can change, so confirm that your local edition is listed for your hardware before you commit. Unlike Jedi: Survivor, the listed console support is for current-generation PlayStation and Xbox systems.

Star Wars Zero Company: deliberate, turn-based squad tactics

What you play

Zero Company is a single-player, turn-based tactics game set during the twilight of the Clone Wars. Instead of controlling a lone hero in real time, you plan actions for a squad, make decisions in turns and solve encounters through positioning, abilities and loadouts.

EA says the squad’s appearances, loadouts and abilities can be customized. That makes personalization part of the premise: you are not simply selecting a fixed roster and accepting identical tools every mission. The game’s appeal is the planning layer and the ability to shape how your unit operates.

Who should choose it

  • Players who prefer thinking through a turn before committing to an attack.
  • Fans of Clone Wars-era stories and military-squad scenarios.
  • Anyone who wants a solo campaign built around customization rather than reflex-driven combat.

Platforms

EA lists Zero Company on PC through the EA app, Steam and Epic Games Store, plus PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. The listed console platforms are current-generation systems; verify the exact storefront edition if you use older hardware.

Star Wars Battlefront II: the broadest multiplayer battlefield

What you play

Battlefront II is the broad-scale shooter option in this group. EA describes multiplayer battles across all three cinematic eras, giving it the widest era coverage of the compared games. It also includes a single-player story, so it is not exclusively a competitive multiplayer product.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The important distinction is scale and variety: this is the choice for players who want large battles and the ability to move between the prequel, original and sequel-era settings. It is not the specialized starfighter simulator; that role belongs to Squadrons.

Who should choose it

  • Players who want ground-based shooter battles with a large Star Wars cast and settings drawn from all three cinematic eras.
  • People who expect to spend time in multiplayer but still want a standalone story mode.
  • Players who prefer a broad battlefield experience over the narrower focus of starfighter-only combat.

The official descriptions provided here do not establish a current, universal platform list for Battlefront II. Confirm support for your specific PC storefront or console before buying, especially if you are comparing it with games whose current-generation availability is explicitly listed.

Star Wars: Squadrons: cockpit-first starfighter combat

What you play

Squadrons concentrates on piloting. EA describes multiplayer space dogfights and a single-player campaign centered on flying starfighters, so the game spends its time in the cockpit rather than alternating between ground exploration and lightsaber encounters.

Who should choose it

  • Players who want first-person starfighter combat above every other feature.
  • Fans of multiplayer space dogfights who prefer a dedicated flying game to a general-purpose shooter.
  • Players seeking a campaign that teaches and frames the piloting experience while retaining an online combat focus.

As with Battlefront II, the supplied official descriptions do not establish a complete current platform table here. Check the live listing for your hardware and region before purchase.

How the five games differ

Game Primary format Story or setting Solo and multiplayer emphasis
Jedi: Survivor Third-person action adventure Cal Kestis, five years after Fallen Order Single-player; EA says it can stand alone
Outlaws Open-world adventure Kay Vess and Nix, between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi Open-world, scoundrel-focused experience
Zero Company Turn-based tactics Twilight of the Clone Wars Single-player with customizable squad members
Battlefront II Large-scale shooter All three cinematic eras Multiplayer battles plus a single-player story
Squadrons First-person starfighter combat Piloting-centered campaign and space battles Single-player campaign plus multiplayer dogfights

The table shows why a single ranking would mislead. Each title solves a different “I want Star Wars to feel like…” request: Jedi adventure, criminal-underworld exploration, military planning, battlefield shooting or cockpit combat.

Do you need to play Jedi: Fallen Order first?

No. Jedi: Survivor is a sequel and follows Fallen Order five years later, but EA says each game can stand alone. Start with Survivor if its newer platform support or its particular action-adventure format is what you want. Play Fallen Order first only if you want the complete chronological arc and the additional character context that comes from beginning at the start.

Choose by the question you are really asking

“Which one gives me an open world?”

Choose Star Wars Outlaws. It is the only title in this comparison explicitly described as open world, and its design centers on Kay Vess, Nix and a scoundrel’s perspective.

“Which one is best for playing alone?”

Begin with Jedi: Survivor if you want a cinematic character story, or Zero Company if you want turn-based planning and squad customization. Outlaws is also a natural solo choice if exploration matters more than a tightly directed campaign. The distinction is the type of solo play, not a claim that one has a better story.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“Which one should I choose for multiplayer?”

Pick Battlefront II for large, era-spanning shooter battles. Pick Squadrons when your priority is starfighter dogfighting. Their multiplayer fantasies are different enough that the preferred camera and battlefield matter more than a generic online label.

“Which one fits a Clone Wars fan?”

Zero Company is the direct match because its setting is the twilight of the Clone Wars and its mechanics revolve around commanding a squad.

Platform checks before you buy

  1. Identify your exact hardware. Separate PlayStation 4 from PlayStation 5, Xbox One from Xbox Series X|S, and PC storefronts from one another.
  2. Match the listing to the table. Jedi: Survivor has both current- and last-generation console versions; Outlaws lists Nintendo Switch 2, current PlayStation and Xbox consoles, Luna and PC; Zero Company lists PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.
  3. Check the regional storefront. Ubisoft notes can vary by storefront and region, and availability is not a permanent guarantee.
  4. Do not infer support from the franchise. The fact that one Star Wars title runs on a console does not establish that every other title does. Confirm the individual game page.
  5. Check the edition and date. Prices, discounts and editions change by territory and time, so a displayed price is not durable comparative evidence.

What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you

The official descriptions establish each game’s format, premise, setting and listed platforms. They do not provide a shared review score, performance benchmark or value calculation. That means the responsible recommendation is conditional: select the game whose structure matches how you want to play, then verify current hardware support.

Current prices and stock are especially poor ways to rank these games because they vary by region, edition and promotion. A sale can change which purchase is cheapest without changing which game is the best fit for your preferred experience.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A simple final decision path

  1. If you want to be a Jedi in a directed solo action story, choose Jedi: Survivor.
  2. If you want to roam an open world as a scoundrel, choose Outlaws.
  3. If you want to command and customize a squad one turn at a time, choose Zero Company.
  4. If you want huge multiplayer ground battles across the film eras, choose Battlefront II.
  5. If you want to spend the campaign and matches in a starfighter cockpit, choose Squadrons.
  6. Before checkout, confirm the exact platform, storefront and regional edition.
