No—STAR WARS: Galactic Racer does not support split-screen multiplayer. Secret Mode’s official FAQ explicitly says the game has no split-screen mode. Friends can race together through online PvP, using separate systems connected to the internet. Online races support up to 12 players in speeder events and up to 8 in podracer events, depending on the event type.
That distinction matters if you are choosing a game for couch play. Two people cannot share one console and screen for a simultaneous race. They can take turns in the solo modes, or each use a separate PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S and meet online.

Does Star Wars Galactic Racer have split-screen?
No. The official STAR WARS: Galactic Racer FAQ gives the direct answer: “No, STAR WARS: Galactic Racer does not support split-screen multiplayer.” There is no documented same-console, shared-screen race mode for two or more players.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThis rules out the usual couch-multiplayer setup in which two controllers are connected to one console and each racer appears on the same television. The FAQ also does not list a local-versus option, LAN mode, or any other simultaneous offline multiplayer feature. You should therefore treat split-screen as unavailable in the current feature set.

- Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga PS5
The limitation applies specifically to simultaneous local competition. It does not remove the game’s solo content or its online multiplayer. A friend in the same room can still play if both of you use separate systems and connect to an online race, but that is online play rather than local multiplayer.
How online multiplayer works instead
Online PvP is the supported way to race against other human players. Each participant plays on a separate connected PC or console. The game’s official FAQ describes different maximum race sizes for speeder and podracer events.
| Online event | Maximum players | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Quick Race | Up to 12 | Speeder event limit stated in the official FAQ |
| Multiplayer Tour | Up to 12 | Speeder event limit stated in the official FAQ |
| Quick Podrace | Up to 8 | Podracer event limit stated in the official FAQ |
| Podracer Tour | Up to 8 | Podracer event limit stated in the official FAQ |
These are online race capacities, not local player counts. Because split-screen is unsupported, there is no equivalent “two players on one screen” number to compare with the 12-player and eight-player online limits.

What happens when a race is not full?
The FAQ says AI racers fill open slots when an online race does not reach its maximum human-player count. A 12-place speeder race can therefore proceed without 12 human participants, and an eight-place podracer race can start without eight people. The unfilled positions are occupied by computer-controlled racers rather than being converted into local seats.
How large can a party be?
According to the FAQ, online parties currently support up to three players. The publisher described an increase to six players as a planned update targeted for the first weeks after launch. That six-player figure is a future plan, not proof that the larger cap is already available. Party limits can change with updates, so check the latest in-game information or official FAQ if the size of your group matters.
Crossplay: playing with friends on different platforms
PC-to-console crossplay is enabled by default according to the official FAQ. Players on supported PC and console versions can therefore meet in the same online races without all owning the game on the same platform. The FAQ also says crossplay can be turned off.

Xbox’s product listing separately advertises Xbox cross-platform multiplayer. Crossplay should be understood as platform interoperability over the internet; it does not create local multiplayer, split the television into multiple views, or allow two racers to use one console simultaneously.

Leaving crossplay enabled gives the matchmaking system access to players on other supported platforms. Turning it off may be appropriate if everyone in your group is on the same platform and you deliberately want to restrict matchmaking to that platform. The FAQ does not document a performance or matchmaking advantage for either setting, so choose based on who you need to play with rather than assuming one option is universally better.
Matchmaking and joining a Tour
The FAQ describes several rules that affect how quickly an online race starts. Matchmaking prioritizes races with vacancies and tries to prioritize the player’s region when possible. A late joiner may be placed in Spectator Mode until the next race in a Tour instead of being inserted into an event already in progress.
A party-specific requirement
A party of two seeking a newly created Tour or Quick Race needs a third unique player outside the party before the race starts, according to the FAQ. “Unique” here means another participant who is not one of the two people already in your party. This requirement matters when a pair expects to launch a race immediately with only their own party members.
If your group has fewer than the required number of human players, matchmaking can still use open races and AI fills empty slots where applicable. The party rule and the AI-fill rule address different situations: one concerns starting a newly created race with a small party, while the other concerns vacant positions in an online event.

Why a friend might be spectating
Being placed in Spectator Mode does not necessarily mean the connection failed. The FAQ says late joiners in a Tour may have to watch until the next race. If one member of your group arrives after a Tour event has begun, wait for the next race rather than repeatedly leaving and recreating the party.

Platform requirements and subscriptions
Online access can require a platform subscription in addition to owning the game. The current US PlayStation listing says PlayStation Plus is required for online play. The current US Xbox listing says console online multiplayer requires Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate.
| Platform | Online requirement stated in the current US listing | Regional caveat |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | PlayStation Plus required for online play | Subscription names and rules can change; verify the listing for your country |
| Xbox Series X|S | Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate required for console online multiplayer | Verify current service tiers and regional terms before subscribing |
| PC | The cited sources identify online PvP and crossplay but do not state a separate PC subscription requirement | Check the store and account requirements for your PC platform |
These statements refer to current US platform listings. They are not a universal price quote, and they do not establish what a player in another country will pay. Subscription names, benefits, and online-access rules are subject to platform changes, so confirm the current requirements for your account region before buying specifically for multiplayer.
Can two friends in the same room play together?
Yes, but not through a shared screen. The supported arrangement is two separate systems, two copies or accounts as required by the platform, internet access, and any applicable console online subscription. One person can play on a PS5 while the other plays on Xbox Series X|S or PC if the relevant crossplay setting remains enabled.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The sources do not describe a same-console local-versus mode. Do not buy the game expecting to connect a second controller to a single PS5 or Xbox and start a two-player race. The practical same-room alternative is to place the systems nearby and join the same online session.
What you need for a same-room online session
- A separate supported system for each simultaneous racer.
- An internet connection for every system.
- The game installed and updated on each system.
- Platform accounts that can access online multiplayer.
- PlayStation Plus on PS5 or a qualifying Xbox Game Pass tier on Xbox, where required by the current US platform listings.
- Crossplay left enabled if the players are using different platforms.
The FAQ does not publish a universal hardware, bandwidth, or latency threshold. Network quality can still affect matchmaking and race stability, so a wired connection or strong wireless signal is sensible, but no specific speed should be presented as an official requirement.
Solo modes are not a substitute for split-screen
STAR WARS: Galactic Racer includes solo content. StarWars.com identifies Campaign, Scenario, and Arcade modes, and describes the campaign as solo. These modes let one person play without online opponents, but they do not add a second local racer.

Taking turns
Friends can pass one controller back and forth in a solo mode, compare times, or decide who advances farther. That is a social way to use the game, but it is turn-taking rather than simultaneous local multiplayer. Each race still has one active player on the system.

How to choose the right setup for your group
You want two people on one TV
This game is not a match for that requirement. The official FAQ rules out split-screen, and no same-console alternative is documented. Choose a different title with an explicitly advertised local-versus mode, or plan to use separate systems for Galactic Racer.
You have two or three friends with separate systems
Online play fits this group. A party can currently contain up to three players, so a group of two or three can organize an online session within the stated party limit. If you create a new Tour or Quick Race as a party of two, remember that the FAQ says a third unique player outside the party is needed before that race starts.
Your group uses mixed platforms
Leave crossplay enabled unless you have a specific reason to restrict it. The FAQ says PC and consoles can play together, while the Xbox listing advertises Xbox cross-platform multiplayer. Everyone still needs a separate connected system; crossplay does not convert the game into local co-op.
You want a large online lobby
Choose a speeder event when the larger field matters. Quick Race and Multiplayer Tour support up to 12 online players. Podracer events have a lower maximum of eight, so Quick Podrace and Podracer Tour are the better fit when your group specifically wants podracing rather than the largest possible lobby.
Launch platforms and editions
STAR WARS: Galactic Racer launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The official FAQ confirms physical Standard and Deluxe editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Edition names and physical availability describe how the game is sold; they do not imply different multiplayer features. Nothing in the cited sources indicates that buying a Deluxe edition adds split-screen. Treat every edition as subject to the same current split-screen limitation unless a later official product description says otherwise.
Common misunderstandings to avoid
“Multiplayer” means split-screen
Not here. The game has online multiplayer, but the official FAQ separately says split-screen is unsupported. When a store page says multiplayer, read the surrounding platform and network language to determine whether it means online PvP.
Crossplay means two players can share a console
Crossplay means players on different supported platforms can meet online. It requires separate systems and does not provide a local second screen or controller slot.
A six-player party is already guaranteed
The FAQ describes six as a planned increase from the current three-player party limit. Until an official update confirms that change, plan around three-player parties.
The game is only for online players
That is also inaccurate. Campaign, Scenario, and Arcade modes provide solo content. The correct distinction is that the game supports solo play and online multiplayer, but not simultaneous local split-screen.
A late joiner has been disconnected
A Tour participant may be placed in Spectator Mode until the next race, according to the FAQ. Spectating can therefore be an expected matchmaking state rather than evidence of a failed connection.
What could change after launch?
The current sources establish the feature status at launch and in the 2026 FAQ: split-screen is not supported, online races have the stated capacities, and parties currently hold up to three players. They do not establish whether a future patch will add split-screen. Do not treat the present limitation as a permanent promise about every future version.
The planned party increase is the clearest example of a feature that may change. Before organizing a larger group, check the latest official FAQ or patch notes for the current party cap, matchmaking behavior, crossplay controls, and any newly added local modes.
