A pending stablecoin transfer has not finished; a failed transfer did not complete. Start with the transaction hash in the correct block explorer, then follow the status: wait if confirmations are increasing, fix the exact reported error before retrying, or escalate with the hash if the chain succeeded but the receiving service has not credited you. A confirmed transfer sent to the wrong address or network is generally irreversible.
What “pending” and “failed” actually mean
Wallets, exchanges and bridges use status labels for different stages of the same process. Treat the label as a starting point, not proof that funds are lost.

A delayed bridge transfer is not the same as a failed bridge transfer. Circle describes a failed USDC Bridge transfer as one that did not complete and moved no USDC to the destination network; a delayed transfer has started and is still processing. Circle also says, “Your funds are not lost. Most delayed transactions will complete automatically.”

Find the transaction hash before changing anything
The transaction hash (also called a transaction ID) is the unique record you need for an on-chain diagnosis. Copy it from the wallet, exchange withdrawal page or bridge activity screen. If no hash is shown, the request may not have been broadcast; ask the service whether it created a blockchain transaction before attempting another send.

- Copy the complete hash without spaces or truncation.
- Identify the source chain and, for a bridge, the destination chain shown in the transfer details.
- Open the block explorer for that chain and paste the hash into its search field.
- Check the explorer’s status, block inclusion, confirmation count, sender, recipient, token contract and amount.
- Compare the recipient and network with the deposit instructions you intended to use.
A hash found on the wrong chain can look like a missing transaction. Search the source chain first for a normal wallet send, then check the destination chain when a bridge or cross-chain service is involved. Do not disclose a seed phrase, private key or wallet password to anyone offering to “release” a pending transfer; support staff need the hash and account context, not signing credentials.
If the transfer is pending
Confirmations are increasing
When the explorer shows the transaction included in a block and the confirmation count is rising, the network is processing it. Leave the transaction alone and check again later. Coinbase’s support guidance says to wait at least 30 minutes, noting that most transactions complete within that time. That is a support guideline, not a guarantee for every chain, fee market or bridge.
Do not create a second payment merely because the wallet interface still says pending. A replacement can produce a duplicate payment if the original later confirms, and a bridge may still complete its original operation.
High volume, congestion or fee pressure
Network demand can delay inclusion, especially when many users compete for block space or gas prices rise. An insufficient fee can leave a transaction waiting while higher-fee transactions are selected first. The explorer normally reveals whether the transaction is unconfirmed, while the service may show a congestion notice.

If the transaction is unconfirmed, follow the wallet’s documented replacement or speed-up feature only when you understand how it handles the same nonce. Do not manually construct a second transaction unless you can verify that the first one was dropped and that the replacement will not create an unintended payment.
Node synchronization or provider interruption
A wallet can lose contact with its blockchain provider, a node can fall out of synchronization, or a bridge provider can be temporarily unavailable. In those cases the interface may remain stale even though the chain is healthy, or it may fail to broadcast at all.
- Reconnect the wallet and refresh the activity page.
- Check that the device has a stable internet connection and that the selected network is the one used for the send.
- Compare the wallet’s display with the block explorer, which is the authoritative view of an on-chain hash.
- If the provider is unavailable, wait for service recovery instead of repeatedly signing requests.
Insufficient confirmations or account checks
Exchanges may hold a deposit or withdrawal until their required number of network confirmations is reached. Coinbase also lists pending-asset spending, network synchronization loss, rejection, high network volume and suspected double-spending among reasons a transaction can remain pending. Complete any identity, security or account verification requested by the exchange; an on-chain confirmation does not bypass an exchange’s internal controls.

For a cross-chain transfer, the source transaction can be confirmed while the bridge is still observing it, minting or releasing the destination asset. Check both the source and destination records using the bridge’s activity details. A delayed status means the process has begun; avoid starting a second bridge transfer until the first record is resolved.

If the transfer failed
“Failed” means the attempted operation did not complete. The token may never have left the source account, but fees can still be charged for an on-chain execution that was attempted. Read the exact message or failure code before retrying; guessing often repeats the same failure.

Native gas is separate from the stablecoin
Holding USDC does not necessarily pay the network fee. Circle instructs users to confirm both an adequate USDC balance and enough native currency, such as ETH, for gas. A wallet can therefore display a sufficient token amount while the send fails because the address cannot pay the chain fee.
Nonce and stale signed transactions
On account-based chains, each transaction uses a sequence number called a nonce. If another transaction already used that nonce, a later request can fail with NONCE_TOO_LOW. Refresh the wallet’s pending queue and use its current nonce management rather than repeatedly broadcasting an old signed payload. If you are using an exchange, only the exchange can correct its internal nonce handling; provide the failure hash and timestamp to support.

A bridge may simulate a transfer before submitting it. A failed simulation can indicate an unsupported route, insufficient balance, missing approval or a contract rule that the interface has not explained clearly. An on-chain execution failure means the transaction reached the chain but the contract reverted. Capture the complete error text, contract address and hash, correct the stated condition, and escalate repeated failures instead of looping retries.

Check address, network and token compatibility
Before signing any retry, compare four items character-for-character: the recipient address, the selected blockchain, the stablecoin type or contract, and the receiving wallet or service’s supported deposit network. Similar-looking addresses on different chains do not make the networks interchangeable, and a service may support a token on one chain but not another.
Once a transaction is confirmed, it cannot be canceled, reversed or edited through the wallet. Circle states that sending to a wrong address or network may make recovery impossible. Coinbase likewise warns that it cannot recover funds sent on the wrong network. A recipient who controls the destination address might voluntarily return assets, or a custodian might have a documented recovery process, but neither outcome is guaranteed; do not promise a reversal.
Wrong network before confirmation
If the transaction is still unsigned or not broadcast, cancel the request and select the correct network. If it is broadcast but unconfirmed, use only the wallet’s documented cancellation or replacement mechanism, and verify the result in the explorer. A pending label alone does not guarantee that cancellation will work.
Wrong network after confirmation
Save the hash, source and destination networks, token contract, amount, recipient address and time. Contact the receiving service if it controls the address and has a published recovery procedure. If the address is a self-custody wallet, recovery requires access to the private key on a compatible network and may still be impossible; never share that key with support.

Exchange, self-custody and bridge troubleshooting
Exchange custody
An exchange may show a pending withdrawal while the transaction is waiting for broadcast, confirmations or an account review. Use the exchange’s withdrawal record to obtain the hash, then compare it with the explorer. If the chain confirms success but the recipient account is not credited, verify that the deposit network is supported and open a support case with the hash, asset, network, amount and account identifier. Complete requested account checks rather than opening duplicate tickets.
Self-custody wallet
A self-custody wallet controls signing but does not control block production. A stale interface, disconnected provider or wrong network selection can make a completed transaction appear pending. Reconnect, select the chain used for the transaction, and verify the hash in the explorer. If the explorer says failed, correct the displayed cause; if it says confirmed, the remaining issue is usually the receiving wallet’s display or token compatibility.
Bridge transfer
Record both the source transaction hash and the bridge transfer identifier if they differ. Check whether the source transaction confirmed, whether the bridge is still processing, and whether a destination transaction exists. For a delayed transfer, waiting may be appropriate; for a failed transfer, follow the bridge’s error-specific retry path. Repeated failures should be escalated with the complete transfer record rather than a screenshot that omits the hash.
A status-based decision procedure
- Locate the hash. Copy it from the sending interface. If there is no hash, ask whether the request was broadcast and do not assume an on-chain loss.
- Use the correct explorer. Search the source chain for a normal send; for a bridge, inspect the source and destination chains separately.
- Read the on-chain status. Note confirmation count, sender, recipient, token contract, amount and any execution error.
- If confirmations are increasing, wait. Network congestion, confirmation requirements and bridge processing can all make a valid transfer look pending.
- If there are no confirmations, investigate broadcast and fee conditions. Check whether the provider reports congestion, a low fee, synchronization loss or rejection.
- If the status is failed, fix the exact cause. Add native gas or token funds, use an adequate fee or gas limit, refresh the nonce, reconnect the provider or create a new transaction after expiry.
- If the chain confirms success but the recipient has not credited it, verify support. Confirm the receiving service accepts that token on that network, then contact it with the hash and account details.
- If the confirmed send used the wrong address or network, stop retrying. Recovery is not assured; contact the controlled recipient or custodian with complete transaction evidence.
How long should you wait?
There is no universal stablecoin deadline because confirmation policies, congestion, fee markets and bridge processing differ. Coinbase’s guidance is to wait at least 30 minutes, stating that most transactions complete within that time. Use the explorer rather than a countdown: increasing confirmations indicate progress, while an unchanged unconfirmed transaction calls for fee, broadcast and provider checks.
For a bridge, distinguish source-chain confirmation from destination delivery. A source transaction can be final while the bridge is still processing. If the bridge marks the transfer delayed, its support guidance says most delayed transactions complete automatically; keep the original record and avoid submitting a duplicate until the service resolves it.
What to include when contacting support
- Transaction hash and any separate bridge transfer ID.
- Asset and exact amount, including whether it is USDC or another token variant.
- Source and destination network names.
- Sending and receiving addresses, with sensitive keys removed.
- Wallet, exchange or bridge name and the account identifier used there.
- Timestamp, displayed status and the complete error code or message.
- Explorer status and current confirmation count.
Support can investigate a hash; it cannot use a seed phrase to repair a transfer. Never send private keys, recovery phrases, one-time passwords or remote-access credentials in a ticket.

Prevent the next failed or misrouted transfer
- Copy the recipient address from the receiving service and compare the first and last characters before signing.
- Select the exact deposit network advertised for that token; do not infer compatibility from matching address formats.
- Keep enough native currency for gas in addition to the stablecoin amount.
- Review the fee, gas limit, nonce and expiry warnings shown by the wallet or bridge.
- For a new route or unfamiliar address, send a small test amount only when the fees and minimum deposit rules make that practical.
- Save the hash immediately after broadcast so you can distinguish a provider display problem from a chain problem.
- Use official support channels and treat anyone requesting wallet credentials as a scam.
