Star Citizen is the currently playable persistent-universe game; Squadron 42 is a separate single-player campaign that RSI says is still in development and unavailable to download. A Star Citizen package does not automatically mean you own Squadron 42: check the exact pledge contents in your RSI account.
What does Star Citizen include?
Star Citizen is the persistent-universe side of the project. To play it, you need an RSI account and a game package. RSI’s setup checklist says that packages other than the Squadron 42 standalone pledge include Star Citizen and at least one ship; other items depend on the package. RSI’s current setup checklist and its launcher installation guidance explain the access requirements.
A ship pledge by itself is not a game package and does not grant access to play. Treat the ship as an add-on unless the pledge also lists game access. RSI’s Pledges FAQ describes how package contents vary.
What does Squadron 42 include?
Squadron 42 is the single-player campaign, separate from Star Citizen’s persistent universe. RSI says it remains in development and is not currently available to download. An account with a Squadron 42 pledge will be able to download it after development is complete, the game has been tested, and it has been released. See RSI’s Squadron 42 download-status page.

Because it is a distinct pledge or access item, do not assume a Star Citizen package includes the campaign. RSI also identifies the Squadron 42 standalone pledge as an exception to packages that include Star Citizen. The specific entitlements shown on your account are what matter.

How to check what your RSI account includes
- Sign in to your RSI account and open the account hangar.
- Expand the pledge or package you want to check.
- Read its listed contents for Star Citizen access, Squadron 42 access, ships, and any other included items. Do not rely on the ship name or package title alone.
RSI notes that ships cannot be split out of a game or ship package. If your account has an older pledge, inspect its contents rather than assuming it follows today’s package arrangement.

Why older packages may include different entitlements
RSI announced a package split effective February 14, 2016. Its announcement said that backers and packages from before the split had access to both the persistent universe and the single-player campaign, while new packages could cover one segment and add the other separately. That history helps explain why accounts can differ, but it is not a guarantee about every legacy pledge; the contents in the account hangar are decisive. RSI’s package-split announcement is historical, not a current price list.
The announcement quoted $45 base prices and a $15 add-on price in 2016, while stating that prices were not final and could change. Those figures are historical and should not be treated as current prices.
