For a licensed Squad dedicated server, Offworld Industries’ current policy sets a minimum of 8 GB RAM for the server and 4 GB more for each additional game instance. It recommends memory rated at 3000 MHz or faster and accepts only specified physical-server arrangements for licensing. The policy does not publish a player-count-specific CPU, RAM or bandwidth calculator, so an “80-player requirement” cannot be stated as an official number.
Do not confuse those hosting rules with the PC used to play Squad. Steam lists 8 GB RAM minimum and 16 GB recommended for the player client. A game server and a player client have different workloads and requirements.

Official memory requirements for a Squad server
Offworld Industries’ hosting and licensing policy, checked October 13, 2026, defines the baseline for a licensed server:
| Resource | Official requirement or guidance | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| RAM per server | 8 GB minimum | The starting allocation for one server. |
| RAM per additional game instance | 4 GB additional | Add this for every extra instance running on the machine. |
| Memory speed | 3000+ MHz recommended | A recommendation, not a player-count formula. |
| Player-count sizing table | Not published | The policy does not map 80, 100 or another player count to a fixed RAM total. |
For example, the policy math for one instance is the 8 GB floor. If you plan two instances, the stated allocation becomes the base server amount plus one 4 GB increment; three instances add two increments. That arithmetic describes the policy’s per-instance rule, not a guarantee that any particular map, mod, operating system or administrative workload will perform well at a chosen player count.

Why 3000+ MHz matters
Offworld recommends memory speed of at least 3000 MHz. Use memory that the motherboard and processor support at its rated profile, and verify that all modules run at a stable speed. Mixing kits, filling every memory slot or using an unsupported profile can force a lower clock or create instability; those are hardware-compatibility issues rather than changes to the official requirement.
CPU requirements and the tested processor list
The policy names processors that Offworld Industries has tested and considers sufficient for hosting. It does not say that every processor in one of these families qualifies. Treat the list below as a set of confirmed examples, not an unrestricted guarantee for an entire generation or product line.

Processor support is not automatic merely because a model resembles one on the list. If your CPU is absent, the policy says it may be considered with prior approval when its performance is comparable. The license holder remains responsible for providing adequate performance, so retain the exact model, core configuration and cooling information when applying.
What the list does not tell you
There is no official table that says, for example, “this CPU supports exactly 80 players” or assigns a guaranteed tick rate to a processor. Performance also depends on the game version, map, mods, concurrent instances, background services and how the machine is configured. Use the tested list to establish licensing eligibility, then size the rest of the system conservatively.
Hosting choices allowed by the licensing policy
Licensed servers have two practical paths under the policy: an Offworld Hosting Partner or approved self-hosted physical hardware. The distinction is important because the policy prohibits virtual machines, VPS and VDS arrangements for licensing.
| Path | What it means | Checks to make |
|---|---|---|
| Offworld Hosting Partner | A provider recognized through Offworld’s hosting program. | Confirm the provider’s current partner status and ask whether the advertised service runs on an eligible physical arrangement. |
| Self-hosted physical hardware | A community-owned or leased physical server that meets the policy. | Verify the CPU model, RAM capacity and speed, network quality, power, cooling, monitoring and your team’s ability to operate it. |
| VM, VPS or VDS | Virtualized hosting products. | Do not rely on these for a licensed instance; the policy does not permit them. |
A provider may describe a service as “dedicated” while still placing it inside a virtualized environment. Ask for the underlying arrangement in writing before submitting a licensing application. Partner status and policy details can change, so check the current Offworld policy rather than relying on an old host list or a marketplace label.

Licensing, browser visibility and administrator obligations
Meeting the hardware rules does not guarantee a license. Offworld Industries can reject an application at its discretion. A licensed server appears in Squad’s primary Server Browser; an unlicensed server appears under Custom Servers. That visibility difference is an outcome of licensing, not a setting that hardware alone can unlock.
The policy also calls for a minimum of 10 administrators per server. Plan those roles before applying: a large group needs coverage for moderation, updates, incident response and access control, not merely ten names on a roster. Keep an auditable list of administrators and define who can change server settings.
Application preparation checklist
- Record the exact physical CPU model and the installed RAM capacity and speed.
- Document whether the machine is self-hosted physical hardware or supplied through a current Offworld Hosting Partner.
- Describe the number of game instances you intend to run and apply the policy’s additional-memory rule to each one.
- Prepare an administrator roster containing at least 10 people.
- Confirm that your operating team can handle updates, logs, backups, security and player moderation.
- Submit the application knowing that approval remains discretionary.
Server requirements versus the player PC requirements
Steam’s Squad system-requirements listing, checked October 13, 2026, specifies 8 GB RAM minimum and 16 GB recommended for playing the game on a client PC. Those figures describe rendering, audio, input and other local game tasks. They do not replace Offworld’s per-server and per-instance hosting policy.

| Playing Squad on a PC | 8 GB minimum; 16 GB recommended | Valve/Steam client listing |
A computer that can launch the game at the Steam minimum is therefore not automatically suitable for hosting a licensed community server. Conversely, a server host does not need gaming graphics hardware simply because players’ PCs do.
Does Squad 10.6 change dedicated-server sizing?
Offworld Industries’ October 1, 2026 Squad 10.6 release notes describe client and game-performance work. The notes say the combined changes reduce the minimum requirements to play the game, and that a World Partition change should improve average memory use by about 1 GB depending on hardware and graphics settings.
That approximately 1 GB figure is client/game memory context, not a revised dedicated-server rule. Continue using the hosting policy for licensing decisions unless Offworld publishes a separate server update.
Planning a server for 80 or 100 players
Questions such as “What CPU do I need for an 80-player server?” are understandable, but the official policy does not answer them with a fixed specification. It provides tested CPU examples and a per-server memory rule, not a player-count-by-player-count table.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Use this decision process instead:
- Choose the number of concurrent game instances, not just the headline player count.
- Start with the policy’s memory baseline and add the stated increment for every additional instance.
- Select a CPU from the tested list, or request prior approval for an unlisted processor with comparable performance.
- Reserve operating-system and operations headroom rather than allocating every gigabyte to the game process.
- Validate the machine under your real map rotation, mods, administration tools and expected concurrency before expanding to more instances.
- Track memory pressure, CPU utilization, process restarts and connection stability over sustained sessions.
This approach avoids presenting an unsupported “80-player minimum.” It also exposes the variables that a single player-count number would hide.

Internet connection and other specifications not published by the policy
The reviewed Offworld policy does not state a minimum internet connection, required bandwidth by player count, port list, guaranteed server tick rate or host price. Do not treat community estimates or a provider’s marketing figure as an official requirement.
For an operational plan, evaluate your connection for upload capacity, latency consistency, packet loss, routing to your community and resilience during updates or backups. Ask a prospective host for those measurements and for its mitigation process, but label any resulting target as your operational choice rather than an Offworld licensing rule.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Using client specifications as server specifications
Steam’s 8 GB minimum and 16 GB recommendation apply to the player client. Use Offworld’s separate server policy when buying or provisioning host hardware.
Assuming a CPU family is universally approved
The policy lists exact tested models. Check the complete model number, including suffixes such as K, KF, X3D or Epyc designation. An unlisted model needs the policy’s prior-approval route if you want licensing consideration.
Choosing a VPS because the advertised RAM is sufficient
Virtual machines, VPS and VDS products are not permitted for a licensed server under the policy. Confirm the hosting architecture, not just the RAM advertised in a control panel.
Believing hardware guarantees a license
Approval is discretionary, and licensed visibility depends on that approval. Satisfying the CPU and memory baseline is necessary for planning but is not an acceptance promise.
Ignoring additional instances
Every extra game instance changes the memory calculation. Count instances explicitly before choosing the machine, and keep non-game services out of the allocation you need for stable operation.
A practical buying and deployment checklist
- Platform: physical hardware or a currently recognized Hosting Partner arrangement.
- CPU: an exact model on Offworld’s tested list, or a documented prior-approval request for a comparable alternative.
- Memory: at least the policy baseline for the server plus the required increment for each additional instance, with 3000+ MHz recommended.
- Capacity: extra room for the operating system, logs, monitoring, backups and maintenance.
- Operations: at least 10 administrators and a documented moderation and recovery process.
- Connectivity: measured latency, packet loss and upload behavior appropriate for your community; no official bandwidth number is published.
- Compliance: review the current policy immediately before applying because tested CPU lists and partner arrangements can change.
Bottom line for a licensed Squad server
Build around Offworld Industries’ policy rather than a generic game-server calculator: 8 GB RAM is the per-server floor, each additional instance adds 4 GB, and 3000+ MHz memory is recommended. Use an exact CPU from the tested list or seek prior approval for a comparable model. Host on eligible physical infrastructure or through a current Offworld Hosting Partner—not a VM, VPS or VDS—and plan for at least 10 administrators. Player-count-specific CPU, bandwidth and RAM guarantees are not published, so any more precise figure must be treated as an operational estimate, not an official requirement.
