If the Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview is missing, first enlist through Offworld Industries’ official console announcement while signed in to the PSN account you will use on the console. Then search the exact Store item, check the PS App, and repair account, licence, library, region, and console issues in that order. The preview is free but time-limited: it is scheduled for October 16–25, 2026.
“Open to all” does not mean automatic access. Offworld Industries says players still need to enlist, and the PlayStation Store listing may be hidden or unavailable depending on account, country, service status, or Store behavior.
What the Squad PS5 alpha is—and why an invite may not appear
Offworld Industries announced on October 15, 2026, that Squad would receive a free PlayStation 5 alpha preview from Friday, October 16 through Sunday, October 25, 2026. The announcement describes the preview as open to all, but explicitly requires players to enlist through its signup route. In practice, enlistment is the access step even though this is not a limited, individually selected invitation program.
The PlayStation Store item is named Squad, with the edition or label PS5 Alpha Preview. The listing marks it Free Beta, supports PS5 and PS5 Pro, includes DualSense vibration, and advertises up to 99 online players in 50-versus-50 combined-arms battles. It is a preview build, not the full console release. PlayStation’s beta guidance also says that beta participation is time-limited and does not guarantee continued access to the game or content after the beta ends.

That combination explains most reports of a missing “invite”: the account may not have completed enlistment, the wrong Store edition may be searched, the local storefront may not expose the item, or the console may need a licence or library refresh. Use the checks below from top to bottom so that you do not spend time rebuilding the database when the problem is simply account or regional availability.
Use this order of checks first
- Enlist with the correct PSN account. Open the official Squad console announcement, select its enlist link, and sign in to the PSN account that should receive access.
- Find the exact Store entry. Search for “Squad” and select the edition labelled “PS5 Alpha Preview,” not a similarly named video, add-on, wish-list entry, or another platform listing.
- Try the PS App. If the web Store or console search does not show the preview, open the alpha site while signed in to the PS App and try its download handoff. Treat this as a user-reported workaround rather than an official guarantee.
- Repair account and library state. Confirm the active account, review transaction history where relevant, check hidden games, enable Console Sharing and Offline Play when appropriate, and restore licences.
- Check PS5 software and PlayStation service status. Install the latest system software and rule out an outage before using Safe Mode maintenance.
- Retry the download. Pause and resume it in Downloads/Uploads. If that fails, cancel and delete the download, then start it again from Game Library.
- Consider country and timing. Storefront catalogues can differ by country. The announced preview window ends October 25, 2026, so an unavailable item after that date may be normal rather than a broken entitlement.
1. Complete enlistment on the account you will play with
Go to Offworld Industries’ official console announcement and follow the enlist link. When prompted, authenticate with the same PSN account that is signed in on your PS5. If a household has multiple PSN profiles, do not enlist with one account and then search from another while troubleshooting; entitlement and download visibility can be account-specific.
How to tell whether you used the right account
- Compare the online ID shown in the browser or PS App with the user profile selected on the PS5.
- If the account chooser appears, select the intended adult or child account rather than accepting a previously cached login.
- Sign out of other PSN sessions in the browser before repeating enlistment if the wrong account was used.
- Do not assume that the word “invite” means an email must arrive. The published process is enlistment through the announcement, followed by Store access.
If enlistment succeeds but the Store still does not show the preview, continue with the Store and account checks rather than repeatedly submitting the form. Repeated sign-ups usually do not fix a catalog or licence synchronization delay.

On the PS5, open PlayStation Store and search for Squad. Select the listing whose edition is identified as PS5 Alpha Preview and whose offer is marked Free Beta. The listing’s published details are PS5/PS5 Pro support, DualSense vibration, up to 99 online players, and a release date of October 16, 2026.
What a correct listing should look like

The Store description calls it a “Squad Alpha Preview” featuring massive-scale 50-versus-50 battles. That description is a useful identifier, but it does not change the October 16–25 access window.

If search returns the full game or no result
- Search only for Squad, then inspect every PS5 result for the “PS5 Alpha Preview” label.
- Remove filters that hide demos, betas, or free items.
- Check that the console is connected to PSN and that the Store has loaded your current region.
- Open the listing from the PlayStation App instead of relying on console search autocomplete.
Store visibility can vary by country. A missing result is therefore not proof that enlistment failed, especially if another account or region can see a different catalogue.
3. Use the PlayStation App as a discovery and download handoff
Try the PS App when the browser-based Store view or the PS5 search does not expose the alpha. Sign in to the PS App with the target PSN account, open the official alpha page or the Squad Store result, and select the download option if it is offered. The app can hand the download to the linked PS5 when the console is online and associated with that account.
A Reddit user reported that opening the alpha website while signed in to the PS App and selecting download caused the download to appear in the app even though the web Store view did not show it. This is an anecdotal community workaround. It is not a commitment from PlayStation or Offworld Industries, so an unsuccessful handoff does not establish that the account is ineligible.
When the App handoff does nothing
- Confirm the PS App is signed in to the same PSN account used for enlistment.
- Check that the intended PS5 is selected under the app’s console connection settings.
- Wake the PS5 or leave it in a mode that permits remote downloads, then retry.
- Look in the PS5’s Downloads/Uploads queue rather than relying only on a phone notification.
- Return to the Store listing and verify that the “PS5 Alpha Preview” edition—not a different Squad item—was selected.
4. Verify account, transaction, hidden-library, and licence state
PlayStation’s troubleshooting guidance recommends account and library checks when content is missing. These checks are especially important if the listing appears on one device but not another, or if the download began and then disappeared.
Confirm the account and transaction history
On the PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts and verify that the active profile is the one that enlisted. Where a transaction or entitlement record is expected, review the account’s transaction history. A free beta may not display exactly like a paid purchase, but the history and the Store page can reveal that a different account was used.

Check hidden games and filters
Open Game Library > Your Collection and inspect the filter or hidden-items controls. If Squad is hidden, unhide it and search again. Also clear platform, genre, or installed-only filters that could exclude a PS5 preview. Menu wording can change with PS5 system software, but the relevant controls are in Game Library’s collection and filter views.
Enable Console Sharing and Offline Play when appropriate
On the account that owns or claimed the entitlement, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play. Enable it on the PS5 that should access the preview when the account is being used to share content with other local users. If it is already enabled on another PS5, the setting may need to be moved; only one PS5 can be designated for this purpose at a time.
Restore licences
Use Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licences, select the restore option, and wait for it to finish. This refreshes the console’s entitlement index; it does not extend the alpha beyond its published dates and does not turn a regionally unavailable listing into an available one. After the restore completes, restart the PS5 and search for the exact Store item again.
5. Update the PS5 and rule out a PlayStation service problem
Install the latest available PS5 system software through Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. A stale system can prevent Store metadata, licences, or downloads from refreshing correctly.
Next, check the official PlayStation Status page for Store, account, gaming, and network incidents. If a service is degraded, wait until it is operational before changing account settings or deleting a download. A service outage can make a valid preview appear missing on multiple devices.

Safe Mode maintenance
If the Store entry remains absent or the library does not refresh after an update and licence restore, use Safe Mode’s non-destructive maintenance options:
- Turn the PS5 completely off, not into Rest Mode.
- Press and hold the power button until you hear the second beep.
- Connect the DualSense controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.
- Select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database, then use the cache-clearing option first.
- If the problem continues, return to Safe Mode and select Rebuild Database.
These options are intended to repair temporary system data and the content index. Do not select a reset or reinstall option unless PlayStation Support specifically instructs you and you have confirmed that your data is backed up.
6. Recover a download that is stuck, paused, or vanished
If the preview is visible but will not finish, open Downloads/Uploads from the PS5 control centre. Pause the Squad download, wait briefly, and resume it. This often re-establishes a stalled connection without removing the partial data.
If pause and resume fails, cancel and delete the download. Then open Game Library, locate the Squad PS5 Alpha Preview listing, and start the download again. Recheck free storage, wired or wireless connectivity, and the PlayStation Status page before repeating the deletion cycle.

7. Check country, Store region, and the preview deadline
The PlayStation Store is regional. The US listing is the canonical example in the published information, but storefront visibility can differ by country. A Reddit discussion included a report that the alpha was unavailable in Germany; no authoritative country-by-country availability list was identified in the official material. Treat that report as unverified rather than as a definitive regional rule.

Check the Store signed in to your own PSN account and country. If the item is absent there but visible in another country’s public page, do not create or switch accounts casually: PSN country settings and purchases are not freely transferable, and a different account may not share the intended entitlement. Contact PlayStation Support for a region-specific answer.
Timing is another legitimate explanation. The announced preview runs from October 16 through October 25, 2026. Before October 16, the listing or download may not be active; after October 25, access may end even if the preview remains installed. PlayStation’s beta guidance says participation does not guarantee continued access to the game or content once a beta ends.

When to contact PlayStation Support
Contact PlayStation Support after you have enlisted with the correct account, searched the exact edition, checked the PS App, restored licences, updated the PS5, and ruled out a service outage. Include the PSN online ID, country of the account, PS5 system-software version, the exact “Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview” wording you searched, and screenshots showing whether the Store button is missing, unavailable, or stuck.

What not to buy or change to fix this issue
No accessory is required to make the alpha appear. A different controller, storage drive, Ethernet cable, or PS5 purchase does not solve enlistment, account, licence, region, Store, or service problems. Use the software and account checks first. The Store listing already identifies PS5 and PS5 Pro support and DualSense vibration; hardware changes are not the remedy for a missing listing.
