Squad is moving from PC to consoles. A reported PlayStation 5 Alpha Preview is scheduled for October 16–25, 2026, and the complete console versions are planned for 2027. The announced targets are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. No exact 2027 launch day or month has been published.
Squad console release: the dates that are known
The announcement timeline currently has two milestones. Reports published on October 15, 2026, describe a PS5 Alpha Preview running from October 16 through October 25. The same announcement coverage places the full console release in 2027.
| Milestone | What has been reported | Status |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 Alpha Preview | October 16–25, 2026 | Reported announcement window; dates may change |
| PS5 and Xbox Series X|S launch | 2027 | Target year only; no day or month announced |
Maxbit Games’ October 15 showcase report describes the game as a tactical FPS currently available on PC that will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2027. That wording establishes the platforms and target year, but it is not a firm launch-date commitment.
How to access the PS5 Alpha Preview
The preview is reported as free, but the announcement coverage does not publish the signup route, eligibility rules, supported regions, player cap, or whether access requires a separate registration code. Treat the October 16–25 window as the information to watch rather than assuming that every PS5 owner will automatically be admitted.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Check the official Squad and PlayStation channels for the final access instructions when the preview opens.
- Use only a store page or announcement that clearly identifies the PS5 Alpha Preview; do not pay a third party for an “alpha key” unless the publisher explicitly confirms that process.
- Confirm the region, download size, test hours, and any confidentiality or feedback requirements before installing.
- If the preview is not visible on your account, check whether your PlayStation region is supported and whether registration closed before contacting platform support.
Because no public signup mechanics have been confirmed, there is not yet a reliable step-by-step enrollment path to provide. The reported “free” description also does not establish whether the eventual console game will be free to play; it applies to the preview as described in the reports.
Which consoles will get Squad?
The announced console targets are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The current information does not mention a PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or a cloud-only edition, so those platforms should not be treated as confirmed.

The alpha information reported so far is specific to PS5. There is no announced Xbox Alpha Preview window in the available coverage. That difference may reflect a staged test rather than a permanent platform split, but no Xbox testing plan has been published.
| Platform | Alpha information | Full release information |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 | Preview reported for October 16–25, 2026 | Planned for 2027 |
| Xbox Series X|S | No alpha dates reported | Planned for 2027 |
Console performance targets, resolution and frame-rate modes, controller features, cross-play, cross-progression, and platform-specific differences have not been announced. Any comparison claiming those details ahead of an official specification would be speculation.

What kind of game is Squad?
Squad is built as an online multiplayer tactical first-person shooter rather than a short-match arcade shooter. Its defining systems are communication, coordinated movement, combined-arms combat, logistics, fortifications, and positional voice communication (VoIP). Success depends on squads sharing information and following a plan, not simply on individual reaction speed.
Large team battles
Offworld Industries’ current product description advertises battles of up to 50 players versus 50 players. Large maps give infantry, vehicles, and supply routes room to matter, so a fight can be decided by positioning and reinforcement timing as much as by aim.

Vehicles, logistics, and defenses
Factions have their own weapons and vehicles. Teams also manage logistics and construct fortifications, creating a loop in which supplies, forward positions, and defensive structures support the frontline. Those responsibilities make a functioning squad and a responsive commander important parts of the experience.
Factions and maps
The same official product copy lists 13 factions and 24 maps. Those figures describe the current product material and may not equal the content available in the console alpha or at the eventual launch.

Will Squad be free on PS5?
Only the alpha has been described as free in the announcement reporting. There is no confirmed console launch price, subscription requirement, edition breakdown, or free-to-play model. The official store currently lists Squad Steam keys, Fireteam Edition keys, and apparel; that PC-oriented merchandise listing does not establish a console SKU or console price.
No physical console edition has been confirmed in the available announcements. Wait for an official PlayStation Store or Xbox Store listing before relying on a price, preorder date, disc edition, or wishlist page.
What has not been announced yet?
- Exact PS5 and Xbox release dates in 2027
- Alpha signup method, regions, capacity, and test-hour schedule
- Xbox Alpha Preview availability
- Console resolution, frame-rate modes, and performance targets
- Cross-play and cross-progression support
- Launch pricing, editions, and physical-retail availability
These omissions are normal for an early console announcement, but they matter when deciding whether to buy hardware, plan a squad session, or wait for a specific edition. The October preview should provide a clearer indication of controller support, server operation, and console readiness, while the final launch details still require an official 2027 announcement.
