On iOS 27 or later, you can ask Siri to play Spotify music without adding “on Spotify”—but Spotify documents this shorter command only for Siri with Apple Intelligence enabled, set to English, and available in your region. Try: “Hey, Siri, play my Discover Weekly playlist.” If Siri chooses another app, add “on Spotify” to the request.
When can you leave out “on Spotify”?
Spotify’s Siri instructions list the shorter command for Siri with Apple Intelligence on an iPhone running iOS 27 or later. Apple Intelligence must be enabled at Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, and Spotify’s command table specifies English for this form. Spotify does not describe it as a universal change to every Siri setup or language.
For example, say, “Hey, Siri, play my Discover Weekly playlist.” You can also request a particular song, artist, album, playlist, or podcast. If the shorter form is unavailable on your device or in your region, use Spotify’s established form and name the service: “Hey, Siri, play my Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify.”

Spotify lists several kinds of Siri requests beyond starting playback. These are the capabilities its support page documents; how a request works can depend on the content and availability in your setup.

- Request music by mood or activity, or ask for Spotify DJ and recommendations.
- Create a playlist or like music to save it to Your Library.
- Skip, pause, resume, or adjust volume.
Apple’s general iPhone Siri guide also gives examples such as “Play ‘Choosin’ Texas’ by Ella Langley,” “Play some mellow music,” “Pause music,” and “Resume music.” Those examples show general Siri music-command patterns; Spotify’s own support page is the source for the Spotify-specific iOS 27 requirements.
Availability depends on Apple Intelligence rollout
Spotify says Siri with Apple Intelligence is not available in every country or region, and its support page does not list every location where the shorter command works. If the feature is unavailable where you are, Spotify says you can still add “on Spotify” at the end of your request.

Apple’s September 14, 2026 announcement described Siri AI as beginning to roll out in beta in English. Apple said French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support was coming the following month. It also said Siri AI would initially be unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS, and that Siri AI and other new Apple Intelligence features would not be available in China while Apple addressed regulatory requirements. These are rollout limitations announced at that time, not a statement that availability will always remain the same.

What to do if Siri opens another app or does not resume playback
If Siri plays from the wrong service
Say the request again and append “on Spotify,” such as “Play some mellow music on Spotify.” Spotify also says that repeated use with Siri helps it learn your preference, but it does not guarantee that every request will route to Spotify without naming the service.

If Siri does not resume what you were listening to
Name the content explicitly—for example, “Play [podcast name] on Spotify.” Spotify also recommends making sure the Spotify app is up to date and restarting your phone.

The documented setup is a software and voice-command change: an iPhone on iOS 27 or later, Apple Intelligence enabled, English selected for Siri, and regional availability. Spotify’s instructions do not say that you need to buy a new phone or accessory, or that a paid Spotify tier is required.

The support guidance documents a shorter way to ask Siri to play Spotify content under those conditions. It does not describe a setting for choosing Spotify as a default music app, explain how Siri selects an app, or promise the same routing in every circumstance. Keep “on Spotify” as the reliable fallback when Siri does not choose Spotify.
