On a supported Spectrum Advanced WiFi router, use the My Spectrum App to view connected devices and, where available, pause or resume access. First identify your router model: Spectrum’s app controls and features differ across WiFi 6, WiFi 6E, and WiFi 6E MDU equipment, so the steps and options may not match every account or app screen.
Check your router before looking for device controls
Find the model number on the router label and check whether the label has the Advanced WiFi indicator or QR code described in Spectrum’s WiFi 6 router guide. Device management in the app is documented for supported Spectrum Advanced WiFi routers; a router from another provider or an unsupported Spectrum model may not expose the same controls.
Spectrum’s WiFi 6E router guide lists SAX2V1S and SAX2V1R model identifiers. Its WiFi 6E MDU router is a separate model for multi-dwelling-unit installations, not simply the same consumer router with an identical setup. Use the guide for your exact equipment rather than assuming all Spectrum routers share one interface.

- Sign in: Open the My Spectrum App and sign in with the Spectrum username and password associated with your service.
- Open your WiFi or router controls: Go to the network-management area and choose the connected-device list. The destination is more reliable than a specific button name because labels can change between app versions.
- Review device details: Select an entry to see the details the app provides, then compare it with devices and connections in your home.
Spectrum’s guides document connected-device management for WiFi 6 and WiFi 6E routers. The WiFi 6 guide includes devices connected over Ethernet as well as wirelessly, so an unfamiliar entry is not necessarily a WiFi client. The guides do not establish a universal way to identify every device from its displayed name.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Identify an unfamiliar device before changing access
Device names may be generic, abbreviated, or unfamiliar. Before treating an entry as unauthorized, check the household’s phones, computers, game consoles, TVs, printers, and smart-home equipment. Also consider wired Ethernet connections and devices that belong to household members or guests.
If you still cannot match an entry to equipment you recognize, avoid relying on the name alone as proof. Spectrum’s guides explain how to view and manage devices, but do not promise a universal identification method or a traffic-history report that would establish who used a connection.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Pause or resume a device
When the router and account expose the control, select the device in the app and use its pause or resume option. Spectrum documents individual-device pause and resume for WiFi 6. Its WiFi 6E and WiFi 6E MDU guides also document pausing or resuming a group of devices.
These guides do not specify a universal pause duration, schedule, or permanent-block feature. Treat pause as the documented access-control action, not as a guarantee that the device is permanently barred from reconnecting.
Rank #3

Choose between pausing and changing network credentials
| Action | What it does | Scope and trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Pause or resume in the app | Controls a device’s access through the documented app feature. | Available controls depend on supported router equipment and account access. WiFi 6E and WiFi 6E MDU guides also describe group controls. |
| Change the WiFi network name and/or password | Spectrum Community support describes this as a way to prevent a device from reconnecting with old credentials. | Every legitimate device that needs access must be connected again using the updated credentials. |
If your goal is to stop an unwanted device from rejoining, Spectrum’s community response points to changing the network name and/or password. The response is in an archived thread, so check your current account and equipment guidance before acting. Spectrum’s WiFi name and password support page says devices need the updated credentials after a change.
Features vary by Spectrum router generation
The official user guides are product-specific. Their capabilities should not be combined into one universal list of “Spectrum router” features. The guide versions below document these differences; current app wording and account access may change.

| Router guide | Documented device controls | Other documented features |
|---|---|---|
| WiFi 6, version 13 | View and manage connected devices; pause or resume an individual device. | Change network name or password; supports wired Ethernet and wireless connections. The guide describes 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands and WPA2 Personal. |
| WiFi 6E, version 12 | App device management; pause or resume an individual device or group. | Port forwarding, UPnP, DNS configuration, Spectrum Security Shield, and up to five WiFi Pods listed in the guide. The router supports 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz; that does not mean every client uses 6 GHz. The guide also describes WPA3/WPA2 transition details. |
| WiFi 6E MDU, version 10, dated September 13, 2024 | App device management; pause or resume an individual device or group. | Port forwarding, UPnP, DNS, security features, and adding or removing up to five WiFi Pods per router, as stated in this model’s guide. |
Consult the documentation for the exact model: the MDU guide covers distinct multi-dwelling-unit equipment, and controls described for WiFi 6E should not be assumed to exist on WiFi 6.

If the device list or controls are missing
- Confirm equipment eligibility: Recheck the router model and Advanced WiFi indicator. The guides tie app management to supported Spectrum router hardware.
- Check the account: Sign in with the Spectrum account associated with the service. If the expected controls are still absent, contact Spectrum support for model- and account-specific help.
- After a credential change: Reconnect each household device using the new network name and/or password.
- For a connection problem rather than an unknown device: Spectrum’s WiFi 6 and WiFi 6E guides advise moving closer to the router, placing it centrally in an open, raised location, and restarting it. These steps may help connectivity but do not identify a device.
Use advanced settings and reset controls carefully
Spectrum support says most people do not need to change advanced settings. Depending on the model, these can include DNS, UPnP, port forwarding, IP reservation, and factory reset. A factory reset removes personalized settings, and reset-button behavior differs by router generation. For example, the WiFi 6 guide distinguishes a 4–14-second reboot press from a press of 15 seconds or more for factory reset; do not apply those timings to a WiFi 6E model. Follow the exact router guide before using its buttons or changing advanced settings.
