Short answer: Neither service is the universal winner. Spectrum advertises wired tiers from 100 Mbps to 2 Gbps, with the 2 Gig option limited to select areas. Verizon 5G Home advertises up to 100, 150, or 300 Mbps, but actual performance depends on cellular conditions at your address. Check both providers for the same street address and compare the checkout price, post-promotion rate, included equipment, Wi-Fi charges, and any price-guarantee terms before choosing.
What is the difference between Spectrum and Verizon 5G Home Internet?
Spectrum delivers broadband over a fiber-powered network with a coaxial connection to the premises. Verizon 5G Home is fixed wireless: a dedicated home router connects to Verizon’s cellular network rather than to a cable line. That distinction affects how you should interpret advertised speeds. A wired connection generally has a defined line to the home, while fixed-wireless results can change with signal conditions, congestion, interference, building materials, and other cellular-network factors.
The advertised speed ranges are not equivalent. Spectrum’s plan page lists 100 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 1,000 Mbps (1 Gig), and 2,000 Mbps (2 Gig). Verizon’s current 5G Home page lists up to 100 Mbps for 5G Home, up to 150 Mbps for 5G Home Plus, and up to 300 Mbps for 5G Home Ultimate. Those are provider claims for download speed, not a guarantee of the speed a particular household will measure.

Spectrum vs. Verizon: plan speeds and advertised prices
The following figures are advertised offers, not a universal rate card. Spectrum’s listed prices include a first-year qualification on Internet 100, and Verizon’s headline price requires specific discounts. Your address-level selector is the controlling quote.

How much is Spectrum Internet a month?
Spectrum’s current plan comparison lists Internet 100 at $30 per month in year one, Internet 500 at $40, Internet 1 Gig at $60, and Internet 2 Gig at $80. The 2 Gig tier is marked as available only in select areas. The $30 figure is explicitly a first-year offer; it should not be treated as the permanent standard rate unless the address-specific checkout quote says so.
Spectrum includes a modem with these plans. Advanced WiFi is shown as a $10-per-month add-on for Internet 100 and Internet 500, while it is included with Internet 1 Gig. The 2 Gig tier includes Invincible WiFi. Add the applicable Wi-Fi charge when comparing a lower Spectrum tier with a Verizon quote that includes its router.
Spectrum’s plan information says the listed internet plans have no data caps and no contracts. That statement applies to the Spectrum offers described on the plan comparison; confirm the exact terms presented for your address, especially if a promotion or bundle changes the offer.
How much is Verizon 5G Home Internet a month?
Verizon currently presents 5G Home with a starting price of $35 per month when Auto Pay and a Verizon mobile phone plan are used. The price is a headline starting point, not a guaranteed standalone rate for every customer. Verizon’s live plan selector shows prices that depend on the plan, discounts, eligibility, and address.
The plan page also lists base-rate guarantees that vary by tier: three years for 5G Home, four years for 5G Home Plus, and five years for 5G Home Ultimate. Verizon states that eligibility requirements and exclusions apply. A guarantee period is not the same as a promise that every fee, discount, or optional service will remain unchanged, so read the checkout terms and identify which line items are covered.

Verizon includes the 5G Home router. The cited plan details do not establish a comparable data-cap or contract policy for every Verizon tier; treat those items as questions to verify in the address-specific offer rather than assuming they match Spectrum.
Do Internet plans or speeds vary by location?
Yes. Both providers require an address check. Spectrum asks you to enter a street address to see the plans offered locally. Verizon says 5G Home is not available everywhere that Verizon 5G cellular service is present, so a phone showing 5G coverage does not prove that fixed home service can be ordered.
- Open Spectrum’s plan page and use its address checker. Record every available tier, the promotional period, the standard or post-promotion rate, equipment charges, Wi-Fi charges, taxes or other recurring line items shown, and any installation conditions.
- Run the same street address through Verizon’s 5G Home checker. Record which of the three tiers is offered, the price with and without any mobile-plan or Auto Pay discount, the stated guarantee period, and any one-time or recurring fees.
- Perform both checks on the same date. Availability and offers can change, and comparing a current quote from one provider with an older quote from the other can produce a false price or speed advantage.
- Save screenshots or the checkout summaries. They provide a practical record of the terms you were actually offered, rather than relying on a national advertising headline.
A nationwide comparison cannot determine serviceability at a particular home. Apartment wiring, network construction, local capacity, and the exact service address can all change the result.
Which is faster: Spectrum or Verizon 5G Home?
On advertised maximum download speed, Spectrum has the higher ceiling: up to 2,000 Mbps in select areas, compared with Verizon’s listed maximum of up to 300 Mbps for 5G Home Ultimate. Spectrum also offers a 500 Mbps tier and a 1 Gig tier that have no direct speed equivalent in Verizon’s three listed 5G Home plans.
That comparison does not prove Spectrum will be faster in every home. Verizon explicitly says cellular-network factors cause speeds to vary. Signal strength and quality, tower load, interference, indoor placement, weather-related effects, and local network engineering can affect a fixed-wireless connection. Spectrum’s wired path can have its own local outages or congestion, but the technology is not subject to the same radio-link variation.
Advertised maxima are therefore best used to screen options, not to predict a speed-test result. If your address qualifies for both services, ask neighbors or building management about observed performance where possible, then test the installed service during the hours when you normally work, stream, or play.

Download speed is not upload speed
Download capacity affects activities such as streaming video, loading websites, and receiving large files. Upload capacity affects videoconferencing quality, livestreaming, cloud backups, sending large media files, and hosting services. The plan information summarized here provides the named download claims but does not establish a comparable upload figure for either provider’s listed tiers.
Do not infer an upload rate from a download label such as 1 Gig or 300 Mbps. Before ordering, ask each provider for the upload speed attached to the exact address-level offer and whether it is a stated maximum, a typical range, or another type of estimate.
Equipment, Wi-Fi, and the real monthly comparison
Both services include their primary gateway equipment in the cited offers, but the included item is described differently: Spectrum includes a modem, while Verizon includes a router. A modem and a router perform different jobs. Spectrum’s modem connects the home to the cable network; the household may use a separate router or Spectrum’s Wi-Fi service. Verizon’s included router provides the home-network connection for its fixed-wireless service.
| Cost item to check | Spectrum | Verizon 5G Home |
|---|---|---|
| Primary equipment | Modem included | Router included |
| Wi-Fi charge | Advanced WiFi listed at $10 per month on Internet 100 and 500; included on 1 Gig; Invincible WiFi included on 2 Gig | The cited plan summary says the router is included; it does not establish a separate Wi-Fi charge for every tier |
| Promotion and standard rate | Internet 100 is shown at a year-one price; confirm what follows the promotional period for every tier | Starting price and discounts depend on eligibility; confirm the ongoing rate and which fees are covered by any guarantee |
| Data-cap and contract statement | Plan page lists no data caps and no contracts | Not established in the cited plan summary; verify the order terms |
For a fair total, add the base monthly rate, required Auto Pay or mobile-plan conditions, Wi-Fi charges, and any recurring equipment or service fees. Keep one-time activation, installation, or equipment-return charges separate from the recurring monthly total.
Price guarantees and promotional rates are different
A promotional rate is a temporary price offered for a defined period, such as Spectrum’s stated year-one price for Internet 100. A price guarantee is a provider commitment to hold a qualifying base rate for a stated period, subject to conditions. Verizon lists three-, four-, and five-year base-rate guarantees by tier, but eligibility and exclusions apply.
When comparing offers, write down four separate values:

- The amount due each month during the promotion or discount.
- The date or event that ends the promotion.
- The standard monthly rate after the promotion, if the checkout page states it.
- The fees or discounts that are outside a price guarantee, including optional Wi-Fi, mobile-plan requirements, taxes, or other services.
If a provider does not display a post-promotion rate in the information you receive, mark it as not stated and request clarification. Do not fill the gap with a national estimate.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhich service is more reliable?
Reliability depends on the local network and installation, so the plan name alone cannot settle it. Spectrum’s connection is wired from the neighborhood network to the premises. Verizon’s connection uses a cellular radio link from the home router to Verizon’s network, and Verizon warns that cellular conditions affect speed.
Placement matters more for fixed wireless. The router may perform differently near a window, on an upper floor, or in another room, but the provider’s installation guidance and eligibility process determine what placement is supported. Avoid promising yourself a particular result based only on a nearby phone’s 5G indicator: Verizon says home availability is narrower than general 5G cellular availability.
Charter Communications’ First Quarter 2026 investor presentation compares its offers with fixed-wireless competitors and identifies wireless interference and reliability as limitations in its comparison. That is a corporate presentation, not independent testing, so use it as a description of Charter’s stated position rather than proof of performance at your home.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Data use and household capacity
For context, the same First Quarter 2026 Charter presentation reports average monthly household data usage of approximately 850 GB. That is a Charter-reported figure, not an independently measured market-wide statistic and not a forecast of your household’s usage.
The practical lesson is to inspect the terms attached to your own service. Spectrum’s cited plan page says its plans have no data caps. The available Verizon summary does not establish a universal cap policy for all 5G Home tiers, so check the Verizon order documents if your household streams heavily, uploads large files, or maintains many connected devices.

Choose by household use case
Light use and a small household
For email, web browsing, music, occasional HD video, and a few devices, either provider’s entry tier may be sufficient if it is available and the final bill is acceptable. Compare the 100 Mbps options on more than headline speed: Spectrum’s Internet 100 includes a modem but lists Advanced WiFi at $10 per month, while Verizon 5G Home’s router is included and its final price depends on eligibility and discounts.
Multiple simultaneous streams and remote work
Several video streams, cloud applications, and video calls benefit from more capacity and consistent latency. Spectrum’s 500 Mbps and 1 Gig tiers provide higher advertised download ceilings than Verizon’s listed tiers, but a strong Verizon signal may still meet a particular household’s needs. Ask for upload details because the available plan summaries do not provide a comparable figure.
Large uploads, creators, and home servers
Do not select on download speed alone. Obtain the exact upload specification, understand whether inbound connections or port features are limited, and test the service during your working hours. None of those upload or advanced-network details is established by the plan figures summarized here.

Homes without a suitable wired provider
Verizon 5G Home can be valuable where its fixed-wireless service is offered but a preferred wired tier is not. Eligibility is address-specific, and Verizon’s cellular variation warning means you should treat the first month as a real-world test of the location rather than assume that a nearby 5G phone result will match the home router.
A decision framework that avoids common mistakes
- Start with serviceability. Eliminate any plan that the provider does not offer at the exact street address.
- Normalize the price. Put promotional, post-promotion, Auto Pay, mobile-plan, Wi-Fi, equipment, and one-time charges in separate columns.
- Match the speed to the work. Use advertised download tiers as an upper-bound comparison, then obtain upload information for upload-heavy activities.
- Account for technology. Choose the wired path when predictable physical connectivity is your priority and the fixed-wireless option when its local availability, installation, and price better fit your home. Neither technology guarantees a particular result.
- Read the terms. Verify Spectrum’s no-cap/no-contract statement, Verizon’s guarantee eligibility and exclusions, and any terms not shown in the summary pages.
- Recheck at checkout. Offers and serviceability are volatile. The quote displayed for your address on the day you order is more authoritative than a national advertisement.
Common comparison errors and how to fix them
- Comparing a promotional price with a permanent rate: Put the end date and post-promotion amount beside the advertised price.
- Treating $35 as Verizon’s universal price: The figure requires Auto Pay and a Verizon mobile phone plan and remains subject to the live selector’s eligibility rules.
- Assuming all Verizon 5G coverage supports home service: Run the fixed-home address check; Verizon says availability is more limited.
- Adding Spectrum’s modem cost twice: The cited Spectrum plans include a modem. Account separately for the Advanced WiFi charge where it applies.
- Ignoring Wi-Fi fees: Spectrum lists a $10 monthly Advanced WiFi charge on its two lower tiers, while higher tiers include named Wi-Fi services.
- Using download speed as an upload promise: Request the upload figure for the exact offer because the summarized plan pages do not provide a comparable number.
- Treating a corporate comparison as a neutral test: Charter’s presentation is a company source; it is not independent measurement of either provider’s performance.
- Assuming a nearby household will receive the same result: Address, building construction, local capacity, and wireless conditions can differ even within one neighborhood.
Bottom line: which should you choose?
Choose Spectrum when it is available at your address and you value higher advertised download tiers, including 500 Mbps, 1 Gig, or select-area 2 Gig service, along with the stated no-data-cap and no-contract terms. Include the applicable Advanced WiFi charge when evaluating the 100 Mbps or 500 Mbps plans.
Choose Verizon 5G Home when its address-specific offer provides the better fit, especially where a wired option is unavailable or its discount and price-guarantee terms are more valuable to your household. Its listed speeds reach up to 300 Mbps, the router is included, and actual results depend on cellular conditions.
For either provider, the decisive comparison is the same-address checkout quote: available tier, download and upload specifications, recurring price after discounts, Wi-Fi and equipment charges, guarantee or promotion terms, and the service’s observed performance in your home.
