What Spectra Blocks does
Spectra Blocks is a Brainstorm Force plugin built to work inside WordPress’s native Block Editor. The WordPress.org listing describes it as a rebuild using modern WordPress core-block APIs, not simply a renamed update to Spectra Legacy. Its feature set includes flexible layout and container blocks, content blocks, styling extensions for core blocks, a design library, Global Styles, popups, and animations. That native-editor approach is the main reason to consider it: you can add page-building options while continuing to work in the Block Editor. It is not evidence that every control will feel identical to a core Gutenberg block, nor does the listing establish that it is easier to use than Legacy. One WordPress.org reviewer, for example, praised the native-editor functionality and templates, while another described the new experience as less straightforward and raised concerns about resizing and centering images. Those are individual reports, not a representative usability test.

The WordPress.org listing says the core plugin, blocks, and Extensions are free and do not require an account. AI features are a separate workflow: they are provided through the free Zip AI plugin, require a ZipWP account and credits, and process requests through ZipWP. Those requirements also apply to Spectra Blocks Pro users. In other words, free access to the plugin does not mean unlimited or account-free AI use.

The described AI tasks include generating pages or sections, rewriting copy, and converting HTML into blocks. Whether those features are useful depends on whether you want to send requests through that separate service and are comfortable with its account and credit requirements.
Does Spectra Blocks make a WordPress site faster?
The official plugin description says, “Spectra Blocks only loads the CSS a given page needs and is built directly on core WordPress block APIs, so overhead is minimal.” That is the plugin’s own performance claim, not an independent benchmark. The same listing qualifies performance by saying real results depend on the hosting environment, theme, and site setup. It does not establish a speed advantage over another block plugin or a site built without Spectra Blocks.
For a specific site, assess performance with the actual theme, content, enabled blocks, and hosting configuration. A claim about loading only required CSS does not by itself tell you how quickly a finished page will render.
Requirements and compatibility
As reported on the WordPress.org listing observed on October 7, 2026, Spectra Blocks requires WordPress 6.6 or later and PHP 8.1 or later; that listing showed the current release tested through WordPress 7.1. These are dated listing details, so verify the current requirements before installing or updating.
The listing names Astra, Spectra One, Kadence, GeneratePress, Blocksy, Neve, and Flatsome among themes it works well with. It also names WooCommerce, SureCart, Gravity Forms, Fluent Forms, LearnDash, Tutor LMS, Yoast SEO, The Events Calendar, GiveWP, PrestoPlayer, SureMembers, MemberPress, and Easy Digital Downloads as compatible plugins, and says it was tested for WPML compatibility. These are vendor/listing claims, not independent compatibility tests. The listing also says the plugin works with standards-compliant WordPress themes.
Should Spectra Legacy users switch?
Spectra Blocks and Spectra Legacy are separate plugins. Legacy is the original plugin, previously published as “Ultimate Addons for Gutenberg.” The official listing says Legacy continues to receive maintenance updates, compatibility fixes, and security patches; existing users are not required to move. It describes running both plugins side by side as a normal transition approach: keep existing pages using Legacy blocks and build new pages with Spectra Blocks.

What changes when you rebuild a page
