SparkLend integrations should resolve the active Pool through the correct PoolAddressesProvider, rather than assuming a Pool address or deployment configuration will remain unchanged. Spark documents the provider as the registry and proxy administrator, and describes Pool as an upgradeable proxy whose implementation pointer is managed through that provider. That architecture makes address-refresh behavior and deployment-specific configuration central to an upgrade review.
How SparkLend Pool upgrades affect integrations
Spark documents PoolAddressesProvider as the registry for protocol contract addresses and configuration, as well as a proxy factory and admin that can manage proxy implementations. Its provider documentation recommends resolving the Pool through this registry whenever it is needed.
The Pool documentation describes Pool as the main entry point for lending operations. It says Pool is deployed behind an InitializableImmutableAdminUpgradeabilityProxy administered by PoolAddressesProvider; an upgrade changes the implementation pointer on the provider. A Pool address and the code currently executed through it are therefore distinct compatibility concerns.
Spark’s guidance is: “Whenever the Pool contract is needed, we recommended you fetch the correct address from the PoolAddressesProvider smart contract.” An integration that instead depends on a cached or hard-coded deployment address may not follow the documented resolution method. That is a risk implied by the update mechanism, not evidence that all integrations use hard-coded addresses or that a particular integration has failed.

- READY IN 3 MINUTES – Set up your ELLIPAL X Card crypto wallet on the offline Starter device, then tap to the ELLIPAL mobile App and start using it. This 100% offline crypto wallet is a no battery crypto wallet with no charging, no firmware updates, and no complicated setup.
- TURN ANY WALLET INTO A CARD – Already have a wallet? Import your recovery phrase from MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Ledger, Trezor, or any compatible seed phrase wallet. X Card works as a backup wallet and physical twin of your existing bitcoin wallet, ethereum wallet, NFT wallet, or altcoin wallet — no transfers, no new accounts, no starting over.
- BUILT ON AN EAL6+ SECURE CHIP – Designed as a secure crypto wallet and private key wallet, X Card generates and stores your private keys inside the EAL6+ secure chip. Your keys never reach your phone, the App, USB, Bluetooth, or the internet, making it a true no bluetooth hardware wallet and no USB crypto wallet.
- ONE APP, EVERYTHING CRYPTO – Manage more with one cold storage wallet. Buy, sell, swap, send, spend, and earn across 45+ blockchains and 10,000+ tokens. Use X Card as your cryptocurrency wallet, coins and tokens wallet, DeFi wallet, and staking wallet for everyday crypto management.
- TAP TO CRYPTO – Carry your crypto cold wallet on a card and secure every transaction with one NFC tap. ELLIPAL X Card combines the simplicity of a crypto wallet with the protection of a cold storage hardware wallet.
What to check in an integration review
Review the integration against the exact chain and market it targets. Verify the live deployment at a named block; documentation explains the design but does not establish a current implementation address or its history of executed upgrades.
- Address resolution: Identify where the provider address comes from and whether the integration fetches the Pool address from the correct provider for the target network and market.
- Refresh and caching: Find cached, persisted, or hard-coded provider and Pool addresses. Determine how they are refreshed and what happens when the provider’s implementation pointer changes.
- Chain and market selection: Check chain IDs, market identifiers, and reserve configuration. Do not assume a configuration from one deployment applies to another.
- Interfaces and behavior: Check the ABI and source revision the integration uses, along with expected interfaces, events, and error behavior. Test the integration against the target deployment rather than relying on code lineage alone.
- Administration and permissions: Verify the deployed proxy-admin relationship, provider ownership, and upgrade authority directly on the relevant network. Spark’s documentation describes Sky Governance as owner on Ethereum mainnet and cross-chain governance bridges or community multisigs on other networks; treat these as documented arrangements to confirm against deployed contracts, not as a substitute for checking current authority.
A sound compatibility test should exercise the integration’s address lookup and operational assumptions against the target deployment, then verify behavior after an implementation change in a controlled environment. The documented architecture supports this review approach, but does not itself establish the result for any particular integration.

Why SparkLend should not be treated as an interchangeable Aave deployment
Spark’s repository describes a project containing Aave V3 protocol source code and market configuration. This establishes codebase lineage, not identity between SparkLend and an Aave market.
A ChainSecurity deployment verification report identifies differences between the Spark and Aave Ethereum deployments, including ownership and market identity. Aave’s own provider documentation also describes a registry and proxy administration model, but similar architecture does not establish common addresses, configuration, ownership, or upgrade authority.

For a concrete comparison, establish the same chain and block for both targets, then compare their provider and Pool addresses, proxy and implementation relationships, market and reserve configuration, upgrade authority, and the interfaces and behaviors the integration relies on. The report supports treating deployment differences seriously; verify the particular facts against the deployments being assessed.
A historical Aave governance post on V3’s introduction said V3 was a separate codebase incompatible with V2 contracts, and discussed a retro-compatible V3 version separately as a possible route for updating V2 contracts. That point concerns the V2-to-V3 transition; it does not determine compatibility for every later SparkLend implementation upgrade.

Which networks currently support SparkLend?
Spark’s product FAQ currently says SparkLend is supported on Ethereum and that its Gnosis Chain deployment was fully deprecated in September 2026, with withdrawals still available. Network availability is operational and can change; check the official guidance before integrating or taking action, especially if assets remain on a deprecated deployment.
What must be verified on-chain for a specific upgrade?
The cited architecture documentation does not establish the current implementation address at a particular block or provide a complete chronology of governance-executed upgrades. To assess a specific upgrade or compatibility claim, pin the chain and block, read the provider’s implementation pointer, identify the executed governance action and authority, and inspect the exact source revision and interface used by the integration. Without those checks, a general description of the upgrade design cannot prove what code is active or how a particular integration will behave.
