SpaceX shares rebounded sharply after a steep post-IPO drop: Bloomberg reported that they rose 48% in the three months after an August 5 low and traded above $160 during the week of October 5–9, 2026. The headline’s more than $750 billion refers to market value restored since August—not cash raised by SpaceX, revenue, or the return earned by every shareholder.
How SpaceX shares went from IPO highs to a rebound
Bloomberg’s October 9, 2026 report describes a turbulent first stretch as a public company, rather than a steady climb. Its reported prices and market-value figures are dated reporting, not an independent reconstruction from exchange data.

Bloomberg described several possible contributors. Its reporting does not establish that any one factor caused the rise or quantify each factor’s effect.

More shares became available to trade
As lock-up restrictions expired, the reported tradeable float grew from roughly 7.5% of outstanding shares at the IPO to about 33%. Bloomberg said the stock held steady despite concerns about insider selling. That price behavior suggests selling was not as heavy as some investors feared, but it does not show what every insider chose to do.
Nasdaq 100 rebalancing may have added demand
Bloomberg reported that SpaceX’s index weight increased during September as its float grew. Funds that track the Nasdaq 100 would generally need to hold more shares as the weight rose, a potential source of demand. The report did not provide a net buying figure.

Company milestones and news drew attention
Bloomberg placed the breakout that began in late September around Starship reaching orbit for the first time. It also reported that shares continued climbing on October 9 after SpaceX acquired spectrum that would let it offer “complete phone coverage in America.” The spectrum band, transaction terms, and regulatory status were not independently established in the reporting available here.

Investors may be pricing long-term expectations
Some investors and analysts cited by Bloomberg emphasized SpaceX’s longer-term prospects. Bloomberg Intelligence analyst George Ferguson described the stock as trading partly on a “long play” and the company’s “aura and hidden-ness.” Those comments are interpretations of investor sentiment, not measured explanations for the share-price move.

Does the lower earnings multiple mean the stock is cheap?
No conclusion of that kind follows from the comparison alone. Bloomberg reported that SpaceX traded at 111 times expected earnings for the next 12 months, down from more than 540 times in July. Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas, who held a buy-equivalent rating, described the shares as cheaper on a growth-adjusted basis. That is Jonas’s assessment; a lower multiple than an earlier, unusually high one does not by itself establish that shares are undervalued.
Jonas argued that developments over the following months could help investors assess SpaceX’s role in power and chip-making bottlenecks, with the potential to unlock earnings growth and multiple expansion. That is a forecast, not a reported earnings result.

What could interrupt the rebound
Bloomberg’s October 9 report also highlighted financing, supply, and near-term event risks. These were reported plans and scheduled events as of that date, and could change.

- Further unlocked shares: Another 7% of shares were expected to become tradeable in an October lock-up expiration, adding potential supply.
- Upcoming earnings and another lock-up: SpaceX was scheduled to report its second quarterly earnings as a public company in November, alongside another major lock-up expiration.
- Signs of market stress: Shares fell 6.6% over the Wednesday and Thursday sessions covered by the October 9 report, while five-year credit default swap pricing on SpaceX debt reached a fresh high.
The bullish and cautious readings rest on different considerations: company milestones and future growth expectations versus valuation and execution; possible index-linked buying versus newly tradeable shares; and a strong price rebound versus the still-relevant questions of earnings and debt financing. Bloomberg’s reporting did not put those factors on a common, quantified basis.

How to read the $750 billion figure
Market capitalization is the market price of a company’s shares multiplied by the number of shares used in the calculation. When the share price rises, market capitalization can increase without the company receiving that amount in cash. The reported $750 billion is therefore a measure of market value regained since August, not a $750 billion fundraising, increase in sales, or guaranteed gain for an individual investor. Actual shareholder returns depend on when shares were bought and sold, and on the shares held.
